First Round Wednesday July 6th at 7:00
Austin Stacks vs Kenmare District
Daingean Uí Chúis vs Kerins O`Rahilly's East Kerry Team vs Shannon Rangers Feale Rangers vs Dr. Crokes Mid Kerry Board vs Firies South kerry vs St Brendan's Board West Kerry Board vs St Kieran's
East Kerry obvious favourites. Dr Crokes, Austin Stacks and St Brendan's look the best of the rest.

I would not rule out Mid Kerry if they get over the first round or two - East Kerry are by far the strongest on paper (should be a limit to the number of Div 1 & 2 sides making up a division) and Crokes would be the pick of the club sides. Club sides traditionally find it hard to win a minor championship and I think its a competition Crokes have never won.

MidKerry went to the final last year and this years panel is stronger so think they will go all the way this year, tough opening game but favourites for me.

Firies have a good team this year they will give Mid Kerry plenty to think about. It will be an interesting Championship. When I watch the Championship I always look at players for next year and who might be Kerry minor standard. Stacks: Robbie Murphy Ciaran O'Reilly Dylan Casey Joe O'Connor Kenmare: Jamie Harrington (Tuosist) Dingle: Mark Ashe Brian O'Connor O'Rahilly's: Sean Collins East Kerry: Cian Gammell (Legion)Chris O'Donoghue (Glenflesk)Ian Roche (Glenflesk) Shannon Rangers: Jack Behan (Ballydonoghue) Feale Rangers: Barry Mahoney (St.Senans) Sheldon Neil (Listowel Emmetts)Danny Quilter (St.Senans) Crokes: Nelu Doherty Lorcan McMonagle Jack Griffin Mid Kerry: Ian McGillicuddy (Beaufort) Fiachra Clifford (Laune Rangers) Daire Cleary (Laune Rangers) Firies: Cian O'Callaghan Jake Flynn Niall O'Donoghue Donnacha O'Sullivan South Kerry: Jamie O'Sullivan (Waterville) St.Brendans: Niall O Mahoney (Na Gaeil) Sean Mortimer (Churchill) Michael Kelliher (John Mitchels) West Kerry: Nathan O Flanura (An Gaeltacht) Brian Kennedy (Annascaul) Liam Ó Bambaire (An Ghaeltacht) St.Kierans: Luka Brosnan (Desmonds) Eddie Horan (Scartaglin) Patrick Moriarty (Brosna) Kellan Brosnan (Ballymac)

Predictions on for the first round: East Kerry look very strong on paper Shannon Rangers surely have no chance. Feale Rangers and Crokes looks to be the tie of the round.

Austin Stacks vs Kenmare District - Stacks to win Daingean Uí Chúis vs Kerins O`Rahilly's - tough one but I'll go for Dingle with home advantage East Kerry Team vs Shannon Rangers - East Kerry by 10+ Feale Rangers vs Dr. Crokes - Dr Crokes 10+ Mid Kerry Board vs Firies - Firies to pull off a surprise South kerry vs St Brendan's Board - St Brendan's should be too strong West Kerry Board vs St Kieran's - St Kieran's to progress

St. Brendans gave South Kerry a bit of a trimming this evening in Caherciveen. The final score was something like 0-14 to 0-05 but they were far better than that. They have a few fellas who are massive units. there were no programmes so not sure of names, but all down the middle they were big strong men with loads of football ability to match.
South Kerry are so far behind the rest at the moment at underage level its frightening.

It's ridiculous that Rathmore have joined with East Kerry. They should be well able for the minor championship on their own with 2 starting kerry minors and Dean Fitzgerald on the extended panel. From East Kerrys own point of view it make no sense taking them on underage when it doesn't look likely they will be back with the senior set up anytime soon

Nobody will beat East Kerry. They would beat some County Teams. Crokes were not at their best but always looked like winning. Mark Hartnett got an early goal and they went up 1-2 to 0-1 after 10 mins. Billy Courtney and Mark Hartnett were good in the first half for Crokes. They led 1-4 to 0-5 at half time. David Shaw and Mike Potts came more into the game for Crokes in the second half and Crokes played better in the second half. Roan Delaney scored Crokes second goal and it finished the game really they were up 2-11 to 0-8 with 7 or 8 mins to go. Feale Rangers got a couple of late goals to make it interesting but Mark Hartnett scored another Crokes goal. Mark Hartnett was Crokes best player. Billy Courtney had his moments and Mike Potts and David Shaw were good in the second half. Crokes will need to tighten up at the back but nobody will stop East Kerry I think.

E8 for a first round game that wasn't even knockout? What I got happened to be a very damp squib, but that can happen, nobody's fault that it was a mis-match, but E8? Somebody, somewhere, is taking the piss.

Surely the purpose of a Divisional side is to give smaller club players the opportunity to play in the county championship. There should be a limit to the number of higher league division sides that can be part of a division - also the division should apply across all grades and not be selectively chosen. It makes a mockery of the competition as currently formatted.

It was the same for the U-21 this year- €5 would be enough for first round games surely with €8 more appropriate for semi finals & final. €8 is very steep for a first round game.

Anyone stand out for Feale Rangers? How did Niall Collins and Bryan Sweeney do? West Kerry beating St Kierans was the shock of the round.were st kieran's missing a few or did they take West Kerry for granted? Any reports from that game?

I agree that East Kerry have too many teams remember Gneeveguilla beat Crokes to be U16 County Div 1 champions 2 years ago this should warrant them competing the minor championship on their own also think the two town teams Legion and spa should have joined together. Na crocaigh i notice you did not mention David Naughton in your match report I believe he played well, with regard to Mark Hartnett being Crokes best player I have seen this lad playing on several occasions with the Crokes ,the sem and also South Kerry development squad and he looks very promising , does anybody know if he is minor again next year?

Can someone explain how the round 2 and 3 draw works ? 6 1st round winners play each other, winners advance, losers out, no 2nd chance ? 6 1st round losers play each other and winners advance and some get a bye to next round ! Surely all of the byes in round 3 should be awarded to 1st round winners. Anyone coming through from losers round should have to play between themselves and any 1st round winner that didn't get a bye ! Or am I misunderstanding the whole thing ?

Round 1 - 14 teams = 7 games which produces 7 winners and 7 losers. 7 winners go directly to round 3. Round 2 - 7 losers play off with one team getting a bye 3 losers depart the competition with the winners plus the bye going to round 3. Round 3 - 7 winners from R1 plus 4 from R2 = 11 Teams 5 get a bye to R4 with the remaining 6 playing against each other Round 4 - Quarter finals 5 Byes from R3 plus 3 winners = 8
It is a mad system but if you leave 9/10 clubs join together including league division 1 sides that is what you get. Having watched underage grades (minor and u21 in particular) for many years its easy to get the feeling that they are seen as a nuisance that have to be got out of the way which is a pity.

Any results from last night? Heard firies won Yeah they won by 2 points according to social media outlets. Heard they were ridden a bit but managed to pull through, hearsay so would be good to get clarification from somebody who was at the game and a run down on the other matches.
