Mike O Halloran's preview of the first quarter final this Sunday Next Sunday sees both quarter finals of championship take place in Austin Stack Park Tralee where first Causeway will attempt to overcome their fellow parishioners Ballyduff. When Causeway and Ballyduff met last year, Causeway had a comprehensive win. The display by Causeway in Kilmoyley that day, seemed to suggest that they would be title contenders later in the year, that is not how it turned out. There is no doubt that Causeway possess the talent to go all the way in this competition, but over the last few years, the promise they showed early in the competition, did not materialise. Causeway have a whole host of players who have worn the county shirt at all levels. Keith Carmody, Bryan Murphy and Jason Diggins, along with Tommy Casey were starters for Kerry in Division 1B. Stephen Murphy, who operated at full forward against St Brendan’s in round two, played a few games in goals for Kerry. Carmody, Murphy and Diggins were immense in a tough encounter against Lixnaw in Kilmoyley. Keith Carmody carried on that form for Causeway, when they lost their way against St Brendan’s. Causeway are the 2015 County Hurling League champions, when they defeated St Brendan’s in the final a few weeks ago. St Brendan’s showed them no mercy in Abbeydorney in round two, both with the wind and against it. For Causeway to win they need to find a consistency, that has been lacking for the past few years. They have lined out without Muiris Delaney and Colum Harty, for their last two games in this competition. They welcomed back Tadhg Flynn between the sticks in round two. They will need everybody firing on all cylinders to progress. Ballyduff has reached the quarter final, when they defeated Ballyheigue, in a game of two halves in Kilmoyley. Ballyheigue had put a fierce challenge to Ballyduff in the first half, scoring twelve points with the wind. It took a huge effort from Michael Boyle to get Ballyduff over the line. Ballyduff, were beaten in the first round by Kilmoyley, where their lack of pace was exposed. For the win over Ballyheigue, Daniel Carroll and Barry O’Grady made a return, they were both injured for the first game. Paud Costello also got another hours hurling under his belt. Ballyduff, are operating from a very small panel, as there is a gap of two or three years for next crop of young hurlers to come through. Bearing that in mind and the age profile of five or six of the current players, Ballyduff will be doing all in their power to make it to the final. Games between Causeway and Ballyduff are always tense, expect the same on Sunday. I have a slight fancy for Ballyduff, to grind out a victory. traleetoday.ie/preview-1/

And Mike O Halloran's preview of the second quarter final on Sunday Kilmoyley take on Lixnaw in the second game of the double-header in Tralee. The champions were defeated by a resurgent Abbeydorney in round two. Most folk expected Kilmoyley to win that one, but they had no answer to Abbeydorney in extra time. Daniel Collins went off injured in that game and his loss was immense. I saw Kilmoyley play in the county league and they impressed me with their ball distribution, game management and free scoring. It is fair to say that their main playmaker is Collins and his loss through injury, early in the game against Abbeydorney really upset their rhythm. Kilmoyley will hope Collins (who is looking very doubtful now) can make it for the challenge that Lixnaw will present. James Godley, Tom Murnane attempted to get Kilmoyley over the line against Abbeydorney and were well aided by Paudie Connor. Jordan Brick was not his usual effective self against Abbeydorney, so expect a huge game from him on Sunday. Luke Fitzell was also introduced that day and he may start. This is also a game that may suit a role for James McCarthy or Ian Brick. Room to improve for Kilmoyley, that improvement might not be enough to overcome Lixnaw. Jason Wallace has his eye on the ball during the Lixnaw v Crotta O'Neills match on Sunday. Photo by Dermot Crean Lixnaw arrived in the quarter-final, with a victory over Crotta, a game that they never looked like losing. Lixnaw were defeated in the first round by Causeway in a game that was very competitive and hard, but the conditions didn’t help. They have a very solid core of quality players, especially up front, in the Conways, Ricky Heffernan, Jason Wallace and James Flaherty, who are all capable of getting scores. Add in the hard working Jeremy McKenna, and you have a potent force. Colin Sheehy who didn’t start the last day, is also there to add to the mix. At the back Pat Corridon is sorely missed and if he comes back, the Lixnaw challenge will be hugely enhanced. John Griffin will pull the strings at midfield, he will be joined by the back in form Brendan Brosnan. The other young star, Johnny Buckley, will be doing all in his power to curb either Collins or Paudie O’Connor. Lixnaw to progress, if Daniel Collins does not play. traleetoday.ie/preview-2-2/

when is the draw for the semi finals? will there be a draw as kilmoyley have played ballyduff and abbeydorney already? Not sure about that. In previous years' championships, at the semi finals' stage it didn't matter whether team has met already or not. Also, this year it is a seeded draw I.e. the 2 teams who came through winners' round are in the one pot

2005,they threw away the first game in the last couple of minutes
I hope the county board dont have the matches clashing with the Tipp V Galway All Ireland Semi Final which will be on TV,hopefully the matches will be put on after the game on TV is over.

This came as no surprise
Garvey's SuperValu Co. Senior Hurling C'Ship Semi-Finals Date : Sunday 14th August Venue : Austin Stack Park. 1.45pm :- Ballyduff v Abbeydorney 3.30pm :- St. Brendan's v Kilmoyley
They moved the first round games so people could watch the Ireland V France soccer match but now they cant move the games so people can watch the All Ireland Semi Final which is on the same time as the St Brendan's and Kilmoyley game, sad carry on from the county board, clubs should push for a change of throw in time.

Few games not played in the Minor Championship
Kenmare/Kilgravan had no team to play St Brendan's and it was the same story with Ballyduff who conceded the game to Lixnaw
One game did go ahead
Kilmoyley/Abbeydorney 1-13 Causeway 3-15
Intermediate Final tonight in Austin Stack Park at 7pm
Causeway V Kilmoyley

Very strange comment from a "hurlingman". Not really. I can't imagine too many counties outside of the teams involved would be moving around their championship fixtures I cannot say for certain but I suspect some county boards would change if possible. It allows hurling fans see the games on TV and also attend their local club games. It is a win win scenario really. Surely a 545pm throw in and 730pm throw in would have worked out and catered for those that want to watched hurling on TV and attend the games in Tralee. However, in saying that there may be other variables at play that the co board have to account for that I am not aware of. At any rate, I expect a big attendance on Sunday. Two appetesing encounters. Abbeydorney haven't been to a semi final in over 10 years and have momemtum whilsy Ballyduff seemed to be also gathering steam especially with Paud Costello and Padraig Boyle back from injury. The Kilmoyley v St Brendans is a repeat of the final in 2015 and is sure to be a fiercely contested game.

Ballyduff is a big parish with serious hurling tradition. Disappointing they cannot field. I cannot figure out Kenmare\Kilgarvan. They should have a fine minor team this year and good numbers. They won the 2015 under 16 championship and only a week ago the 2016 under 16 championship. Some super players on these teams. They should also be able to pick up a few players from Dr Crokes in Killarney to play minor. Hard to fathom. Kerry may be going for 5 all Ireland minor b titles in a row but to see so many teams not fielding at club level at minor isn't good. Crotta, Lixnaw and St Brendans have good teams. Not sure about Causeway but they have been good at minor and under 21 in recent times so should be strong. The remainder of the competition should see good games.

Ballyduff 1-20. Abbeydorney 0-11. HT 0-13. 0-3
The score line tells the story . Ballyduff, the Kilkenny of Kerry hurling, demolished Abbeydorney without too much fuss. Three rapid fire points from Jack Goulding , the classiest forward on view, in the early stages set he tone. Abbeydorney struggled in all sectors against their beaverish opponents and their cause was not helped when their potentially star man, Michael O'Leary , was hurt after a heavy collision with Miikey Boyle, He soldiered on but was clearly impaired even having a poorly struck penalty saved. In any case, his marker , Padraig O'Grady , was one of the best on the field.
The returning Padraig Boyle also caught the eye, scoring 1-2 from play and about five from frees. Paul Costello was unyielding at full back and and whatever he and his miserly defensive colleagues could not cope with was adequately dealt by a very competent keeper. But it was young Jack Goulding who gave the command performance , scoring 0-8 from play without over exerting himself.
Killmoyley 1-13. St. Brendan's. 0-15 HT 0-4. 0-10
Ardfert lit up Austin Stack Park in the first half with the quality and intensity of their hurling. They had Kilmoyley reeling and only some wayward shooting and a less than generous referee prevented them from being further ahead. Rory Horga, Darren Dineen and Kevin Orpen were ravenous at the back , Stephen Leen and Dadid Griffin, guilty of,some wild shooting, were on top at midfield , while John Egan , Kevin Skinner and the Husseys were presenting severe problems for the Kilmoyley defence as a result of which a lot of frees were conceded . Conceding frees is not prudent play when John Egan is in the vicinity. He was flawless in that respect and scored a point from play far out on the terrace side which likely is comparable to any scored in this pitch.
When John Egan pointed a free shortly after the resumption for a crude foul on himself it meant that Ardefert were seven up and one wondered if the fat lady was about to be ushered on stage. Well not for Kilmoyley in any case. They out scored Ardfert 1-9 to 0-4 from here to the end. It was a relentlessly power packed comeback. Points were floated over from frees and play but it was a goal , as is often the case, which expedited the rally. A high ball into the square was not properly dealt with and Daniel Collins lashed the loose ball home. Daniel, playing at wing forward, was fairly subdued but he did score four from frees as well. Sean Nolan and Sean Dowling propelled Kilmoyley from the back and Sean Muansell and Maurice O'Connor and Jordan Brick responded up front. Jordan only scored one point but he was a delight his craft and striking.
One point in it the end and on the strength of their frenzied comeback Kilmoyley probably deserved it but they will remember their near death experience. The quality may not, have been as good as the closeness of the scoring at the end suggests but still no regrets for forfeiting Tipp/Galway game to get out in the fresh air on a beautiful day.

Spot on with the reports Veteran
I thought the changes Kilmoyley made at half time settled them down, they were very poor in the first half at the back and Ardfert should have been more ahead at half time, but they didnt punish Kilmoyley,
Once Tom Murnane went back centre back he seemed to settle down the defence and they started to hurl better after that,

Bit of a surprise during the week, with Stacks winning the South Kerry SHL beating Kenmare well in the final.

should be a bumper crowd in ASP for the hurling finals
Impossible to believe that Kilmoyley and Ballyduff meet in so few co finals given where they are on the roll of honour. nearly 50 titles between them. Always seem to meet at QF or SF stage. 1988 and 1965 the last times they met in a final. Serious tradition in both clubs. Padraig Boyle, Mikey Boyle, Jack Goulding and Paud Costello are is super form for the Duffers. Interesting that all four have played for the Kerry minor footballers!
Daniel Collins is the trump card for Kilmoyley - if he fires like he did in last years final well it could send Kilmoyley to another 2 in a row and joining Ballyduff on top of the roll of honour.
There will be plenty of bite in the minor final too ! Lixnaw v Crotta. Crotta have never some a minor co title so there will be some celebrations out Kilflynn\Crotta direction if they can pull it off
hopefully the weather is good. bumper crowd if the weather holds up

When are teams going to stop fouling Kilmoyley,Daniel Collins will point frees all day if you keep fouling
Ballyduff got 2-10 from play yesterday while Kilmoyley got 1-6,
Something to think about there for the replay if I was a Ballyduff player
