Looking at the table, if Kerry win this game they can't be relegated with against the head with Mayo coming into play.
This should ensure another hugely competitive game again this weekend!

This should be a good game and an opportunity to put the rough and tumble of last weekend behind us. Mayo are no shrinking violets but they well come to play football so it will be an opportunity to calm the ripples caused by last Sunday. Mayo will struggle to get this one over the line despite the home advantage in my opinion, the loss of Keegan, keane and the long term injury to O Connor and with Mitchell's heading to Croker on Paddy's Day is too much and will wipe out the home advantage.
One thing that hasn't changed,in fact they have less options in the back now due to injuries is their vulnerability under the high ball and their inability to deal with Donaghy. Not sure how Tommy is doing but he or Buckley could start in the middle and with Fitzgerald out put the big mad in the henhouse and watch the feathers fly. If we get the nose over the line we should qualify for the knockouts and that would be a welcome boost to championship perpetration.

With Alan Fitzgerald suspended, more than likely Johnny Buckley or Brendan O'Sullivan will start with Donaghy at full-forward.
Watched the game back again last night, Brendan O'Sullivan is some man to move with the ball.

Head to head only counts in a situation where 2 teams are level on points. It comes down to points difference if 3 or more teams are level.

its likely that a few teams will end on 6 points, Score difference will improve considerably for teams who will play and beat Down.ie Cork and Mayo so we need to win games

Mayo will be very tough at home and will be very up for the game as they desperately need the points. They seem to have improved defensively and are giving Cafferkey a bit more protection. I'd imagine if Donaghy plays FF they'll have another man back to help out. I'd be surprised but delighted if we got a win here. Where has Tommy Walsh been the last 2 games btw? Is he injured?

Looking forward to this one. Mayo will be up for it and playing football. Home advantage is massive. I can't recall the last time we went there and came away with a win. Also when was the last time we won three in a row in the League? Still if we can keep up the momentum from the last three games we can do it.

Monaghan 1-12 Mayo 2-11
Mayo are breathing still. A game that confirmed that this league fare is far more fun than most of what we’ll see in the summer, rocked and rolled all the way to the end, when two Robbie Hennelly frees got Stephen Rochford’s side over the line. Their jubilation at the end showed how badly Mayo’s first league points of 2016 were needed. They’ll still have to scrap their way out of relegation trouble but at least the scrap is there for them to have.
For Monaghan, this is a second defeat in a row against one of the big guns their lack of a back-up for Conor McManus was glaring. For the second week in a row, they went the whole of the second half without a score from play from anyone other than their All Star forward. They were in with a shout throughout but couldn’t get it done.
For long stretches in the first half especially, it was fairly obvious which side was working under new management and which has had a few years of bedding in their systems and structures. Monaghan delighted in doing what they do - setting up a screen just outside their 45 and daring Mayo to be good enough to break through it. For much of the time, Sephen Rochford’s side didn’t have it in them. They were slow and unsure in possession and regularly ran into too many numbers in the Monaghan defence.
As the game progressed however, the home side found that gaining possession was only one half of the battle. Ger Cafferkey was doing an admirable strait-jacket job on Conor McManus and, as is so the case when their main man struggles, converting that possession to scores was a trial for them. They squandered plenty of chances and kept Mayo in the game.
An early penalty put them 1-2 to 0-2 ahead after Conor McManus tapped home the rebound from a Robbie Hennelly save. But Mayo dragged them back three minutes later when Conor Loftus skated along the endline and buried low to Rory Beggan’s left.
All the same, it was largely good stuff from Monaghan. Shane Carey and Thomas Kerr slung over smart points to push them into a 1-5 to 1-2 lead but when they needed to push on, they couldn’t. Diarmuid O’Connor was immense for Mayo and when he and Conor O’Shea landed gorgeous scores, it was the start of a purple spell.
Between the 21st and 45th minute, Mayo outscored Monaghan 1-5 to 0-0. O’Connor stole in for the Mayo goal, toe-poking under Beggan after a Tom Parsons line ball broke in the Monaghan square. It meant they led by 2-7 to 1-5 10 minutes after the break.
Monaghan are nothing if not persistent though and they worked their way back to parity through McManus’s frees. With five minutes to go, the scoreline read 1-12 to 2-9 and the game was anyone’s.
Mayo came good though and Hennelly’s frees carried the day.
Monaghan: Rory Beggan (0-1, 45); Colin Walshe, Drew Wylie, Ryan Wylie; Kieran Duffy, Fintan Kelly (0-1), Karl O’Connell; Neil McAdam, Darren Hughes; Shane Carey (0-1), Dermot Malone, Thomas Kerr (0-1); Owen Duffy, Daniel McKenna, Conor McManus (1-8, 0-8 frees). Subs: Ryan McAnespie for Owen Duffy, half-time; Barry McGinn for Malone, 46 mins; Conor Boyle for Kieran Duffy, 47 mins; Conor McCarthy for McKenna, 58 mins.
Mayo: Robbie Hennelly (0-2, frees); Brendan Harrison, Ger Cafferkey, Michael Hall; Lee Keegan, Colm Boyle, Shane Nally; Tom Parsons, Seamie O’Shea; Diarmuid O’Connor (1-1), Aidan O’Shea, Kevin McLoughlin (0-2); Evan Regan (0-3, 0-2 frees), Conor Loftus (1-0), Conor O’Shea (0-2). Subs: Jason Doherty for Aidan O’Shea (black card), 8 mins; Mikey Sweeney for Loftus, 45 mins; Donal Vaughan for Keegan (black card), 51 mins; Chris Barrett for Nally, 57 mins; Jason Gibbons for Conor O’Shea, 65 mins; Andy Moran for Regan, 67 mins.
Referee: Joe McQuillan (Cavan).

Ger Cafferky still full back. Two new names at corner back.
The high diagonal ball to Donaghy should be tried every so often as an option to "test their f... pulse" as P. Se once famously said

Hopefully it will be a good tight clean game and none of that nonsense that happened against Donegal.
I wonder will Donaghy get the wooden spoon again?

If Mayo lose this one, they are more than likely going to be facing relegation. 4 points (they will beat down), will not be enough to stay up. That would leave them requiring something against roscommon on the last day. I think that it would be the type of fixture that could send them down. So I would expect this to be like a championship game.
Kerry win this one and you are home and hosed. Lose it and a win against cork or monaghan will be needed. hard to see this not happening either.
I think that there will be a lot of teams sitting on 6 points. So that will mean points differential rather than head to head will be worth an extra point. Cork are in serious trouble because of this.
I would go for a home win on this one. But it could be the game of the league either way.

Any idea when the team will be announced? It's usually indicated when it will be announced on the website but not so this week for whatever reason.
For the last few year's the team has come out on Thursday night around 9pm. On the last two occasions it has been announced Friday around 6. Wondering have they decided to move the date. Most sides release their teams on Friday's.

EF resisted throwing Donaghy in FF which I think is good. No point in giving Mayo practise at defending him.

Last weekend was championship mode. That was the first response from Kerry since we lost the AI. We haven't been like this in the league for a few years. The big names are back, great to see Cooper starting, I hope we win this match well and play at same intensity as last week. We stood up last week, now let our football do the talking, time to make a statement,

Looking at our selection, we have some panel and hopefully they will deliver uimhir 38 where it belongs. With 30+ blue bloodeds seeking a place it must be a very charged atmosphere.
BTW Neil McGee can play v Rossies as his appeal won't be heard on time but I don't know if he risks further penalty if it then goes against him. As I will be at that game I will try to give a veteran like report, although the styles contrast. I'm expecting Weeshie to bell me for updates so I must practice my MOM/Brian Carty tone.

Yerra, there are ways and means around that! Rules say no transfer "at the venue"- may I suggest that in the nearby schools car park or Lidl there is no such restrictions. Most people in green & gold will be receptive to a question as to whether they have or want a ticket, no harm asking.

Donegal have submitted a request for a hearing for full-back Neil McGee.
The Central Competitions Controls Committee (CCCC) proposed a one-game suspension for McGee, who was cited for a category 3 infraction during last Sunday's ill-tempered clash with Kerry in Tralee.
McGee was involved in an incident with Kerry's Alan Fitzgerald which saw the Kingdom forward dismissed on a straight red card.
Donegal and Kerry were both hit with €7,500 fines and Kingdom manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice has called on his side to show their discipline when they head to Mayo this weekend.
"Sometimes matches can take on a life of their own and the match last Sunday was a match that took on a life of its own, but we're moving on," said the Kerry boss.
"We have to be disciplined now this weekend against Mayo. I think, looking back, Kerry never raised a hand at any stage, the scenes weren't great but at the same time I think there seems to have been an awful lot made out of it."
Battle
"We knew it was going to be a battle, any of the games in Division One are going to be a battle. We were expecting a battle, we knew that it wasn't going to be like shooting fish in a barrel, we knew it was going to be a tough battle and that's the way it turned out."
Kerry have secured victory in their last two games but haven't won in Castlebar since 2011.
And having collected their first two points of the campaign in Clones against Monaghan last weekend, Fitzmaurice is expecting a confident Mayo side to show up tomorrow.
"I would imagine Mayo would be fancying their chances against us on Sunday as we haven't won up there since 2011," he explained.
"Even though they got off to a bad start in the league against Cork, where they didn't play well on that day, their games against both Dublin and against Donegal, before they beat Monaghan last weekend, they actually played quite well in those two losses. They were unlucky not to get something out of both games.
"You knew that Mayo were coming and you knew that it was only a matter of time before they were going to win a game. It's a big game absolutely and we don't have a good record up there, there are two valuable points on the line on Sunday for both teams."
And Fitzmaurice is expecting plenty of ups and downs before the final league placings are decided.
"The fact is that every team in Division One can beat every other team and there are always going to be surprises when teams take points off each other.
"So I'm sure there will be a lot of twists before the end of the league but I'm sure people are doing their maths already."

Kerry star Colm 'Gooch' Cooper will make his first start of the year after being named at full-forward for the Kingdom's clash with Mayo in Castlebar tomorrow.
Cooper has only appeared off the bench to date but replaces Alan Fitzgerald, who is serving a one-game ban, as they go in search of their first win at the venue since 2011.
Kingdom boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice also brings Brendan Kealy into the side in place of Brian Kelly as he continues his policy of rotating his goalkeepers. Johnny Buckley is the other change as he comes in instead of Denis Daly. Kieran O'Leary and Mikey Geaney are back in the match-day squad after returning from long-term absences.
Mayo have named Jason Doherty and Chris Barrett to start in the game after Stephen Rochford's men recorded their first win of the campaign at Monaghan last weekend. Michael Hall and Conor Loftus make way for the Castlebar clash.
Dublin manager Jim Gavin has made six changes to the side that came from behind to play Cork last weekend for the trip to Down.
Dublin are unbeaten in the league to date with Stephen Cluxton, Mick Fitzsimons, John Small, Shane Carthy, Kevin McManamon and Dean Rock all coming into the side.
In hurling, Tipperary have handed Kieran Bergin and Adrian Ryan their first start in this season's league for the clash with Galway while Cork manager Kieran Kingston has made five changes for Kilkenny as they look to bounce back from the hammering at the hands of Dublin last weekend. The Cats have made three changes with Jackie Tyrrell among those dropping out.
Tom Devine has been rewarded for his goalscoring exploits off the bench as he starts for Waterford in their game with Dublin.
