I thought I would set up a new page for the new Season ahead as it is a big one for the county hurlers.
It will be good to track their progress from the Waterford Crystal Cup to Division 1b to the Leinster Hurling Championship Campaign.
A good run of 2 games in the Waterford Crystal Cup would get preparations rolling for the league.
They will face Clare, Laois, Limeirck, Offaly and Wexford. I am sure Ciaran Carey will try and target the Offaly and Laois games to get some points on the board.
Moving on to the Leinster campaign it states Kerry will have 2 home games against either Carlow, Westmeath of Offaly.
Kerry beat both Carlow and Westmeath last year so getting to a q-final is not an unrealistic target.
Do lads feel the panel could be strengthened with the addition of any players from the recent club champ? I am not sure if Patrick Kelly from Clare is available, he just won a recent CR all-star.

Should be a good year ahead for Kerry hurling. Any thoughts on some of the less known squad players? Any new faces for 2016... Ive heard good things about Mikey O' Halloran from ballyheigue anyone know anything else about him?

Who do Kerry play at home in the League?

As ive said all year. The use on the outside players will be a problem next year as they now cant play. Whos going to come in to replace them now? Last year was a chance to use younger players and get them some experience, but this wasn't done. Is it time we looked outside of North Kerry and the senior teams for players?

I think he brought in 3 or 4 lads last year from outside was it hurlingman? The goalkeeper Logue ended up a farce situation. The midfielder Kelly will only be the big loss. The rest were no better than the Kerry lads on the bench. I am not sure of the South Kerry scene, would any lads put their hands up for selection?

Going by the results by South Kerry in the minor and U21 club championships, there seems to be no players good enough at the moment for the Kerry senior team panel, the player would want to be outstanding to go from playing Junior Division 3 County League and Junior County Championship in Kerry to playing NHL Division 1B
Jerry O Sullivan was a rare talent in the 90's,he was from Firies I think and I think he played no club hurling,
The hurlers are off on holidays this week, heading to Florida for a week.

Butler from Tipp was a regular for the last 2 years as well. Re South Kerry players. People always use the ''their not good enough line'' but you have no way of knowing that unless they actually play at that level. Anyone who is playing well at Intermediate and Junior should at the every least be looked at in training etc Training with players who are at a higher level than them would surely only bringing them on

Jerry O Sullivan Played club hurling for St. pats east Kerry. He was a flyer . If I can remember correctly he scored 1 if not 2 goals on ken hogan vs Tipperary in the Munster semi final up in thurlas in 91 or 2 . He gave many of the top corner backs the run around back in the early 90s. Not sure where he is now or if he is involved in hurling in anyway?

Yes it is run off on a league basis.
Top 2 in the group go into the Quarter finals against Laois or Galways.
3rd team stays safe for Leinster in 2017.
Last in the group gets relegated to Christy Ring 2017 and replaced by Christy Ring winners 2016 (More than likely Antrim).
I think Kerry will do ok in the championship if they can hit the ground running against Carlow and Westmeath.
Division 1b is going to be tough.

Jerry played most of his hurling for a now defunct club called St Marys. Picked players from the Farrenfore, Firies, Milltown, Killorglin area. Played a bit with Pats too. He was a busy man back then - hurling with Kerry, winning senior football medals with east Kerry and in his spare time soccer with Currans!

For any lads clued into the local club hurling scene In North Kerry quick question for Ye
How does a club like Kilmoyley that pulls from a tiny tiny catchment area win the SHC 7 times since year 2000? They had 36 named on the panel for the final in 2015.
Compared to say bigger villages like Ballyheigue who would have a bigger pick but don't seem to compete as well. Would emigration of young males be a factor in ballyheigue and causeway?
Kilmoyley also won the intermediate with what seemed like another 25 lads togged out.
Can't get my head round it.

kilmoyley have good hurlers, the majority of them play no football and they have the money to get top class coaches in to train them.

Can't get my head round it. plenty of emigration from Kilmoyley. They have a load of hurlers abroad though they got some back this year which was a help to them in winning the senior and intermediate in 2015 5the place is tiny, hadnt even a village till a few years ago. tradition counts for a lot and they play no football at adult level. At juvenile level lads do play with Ardfert. There is a great love of hurling in Kilmoyley which is fostered in the school and this is the key to their success. Plenty of good footballers have come out of Kilmoyley too by the way - Tom Collins, Declan Lovett, Sean Lovett, Christy Walsh and Daniel Collins. Played their football with Ardfert

The Kerry hurlers 2016 competitive season kicks off in a little over 3 weeks against some top class opposition in a new Munster Hurling League which sees the abolishment of the Waterford Crystal cup.
Their fixtures are as follows:
3rd January - Limerick v Kerry - Limerick venue 10th January - Kerry v Cork - Kerry venue 13th January - Clare v Kerry - Clare venue 24th January - Kerry v Waterford - Kerry venue
There is no easy game there for Kerry but in seasons gone by Kerry generally only got 1 game in the Crystal cup and then had to wait until middle of Feb for league action. A lot of these teams will play experimental sides against Kerry and it gives Kerry a great chance to get up to speed for division 1b and there is a chance Kerry can take either a Laois or Offaly scalp to stay 1b. Kerry's hurlers are now rubbing shoulders with the best in the game and it is great to see a dual county at last both in the top divisions. On another note Shane Nolan from Crotta had made the Munster hurling panel.

Have the Kerry under 21 hurlers entered the Munster Championship in 2016? After winning a truck load of All Ireland B titles at minor level in recent years I think they should have a pop at the under 21 grade in 2016. I have put together a possible team below. The strongest team Kerry have had at under 21 level in recent times. Worth a shot at the A grade?
1. Stephen Murphy Causeway 2. Fionan Horgan St Brendans 3. Kevin Hannifin St Brendans 4. Cathal Kearney Ballyduff 5. J Diggins Causeway 6. Daragh Shanahan Lixnaw 7. Paudie Connor Kilmoyley 8. John Buckley Lixnaw 9. John Mark Foley Kilgarvan 10. Philip Lucid Ballyheigue 11. Michael OLeary Abbeydorney 12. Brandon Barrett Causeway 13. Cian Hussey St Brendans 14. Jordan Brick Kilmoyley 15. Keith Carmody Causeway
16. David Silles Lixnaw 17. Patrick Shea Kilgarvan 18. Mike Leane Ballyheigue 19. Fionan Mackessy St Brendans 20. Eric Leen St Brendans 21. Stephen Sullivan Abbeydorney 22. Fionan O'Sullivan Kenmare 23. Robert Collins Kilmoyley 24. Shane Conway Lixnaw 25. Aaron Murphy Dr Crokes 26. Jeremy McKenna Lixnaw 27. Jack Goulding Ballyduff

Kerry hurlers play their first match of 2016 tomorrow with an away game to Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds at 2pm. The new Munster senior league.
Ciaran Carey has drafted in a few new young minors into the set-up but is holding off naming a team until before the match.
You'd have to imagine Limerick will be somewhat experimental but still a great opener for Kerry to test themselves for the year ahead.
Anyone going down to it?

Final score Limerick 2-23 Kerry 0-18
On a positive note Kerry outscored Limerick 0-13 to 1-9 in the second half.
A lot of young players on display for Kerry which bodes well for later in the year and all homegrown players.

18 on the board is not a bad tally, Shane Nolan hit 0-8. Gigantic step up, they'll know what's ahead of them.

Anyone know what's happening next weekend with the double header in Killarney? Radio Kerry tweeted that Kerry v Cork in hurling will throw in at 2:00, but Kerry v Clare is marked down 2:30. Considering Fitzgerald Stadium has no light and this gloomy weather the curtain raiser would have to throw around 12:00.
