But one presumes you will allow the county junior players to play with their clubs 5 weeks before championship games or are you not worried because you do not have a county player in your club

interesting comments from stephen wallace on radio kerry, saying he wants to use the juniors as type of u23 development squad for the seniors. he would call on some older players to provide strength and physical presence. most managers would want to get the best players available to win a trophy on their watch [usually 1-2 years] regardless of long term benefits to county senior, stephen wallace plan has considerable merits only if continued on a long term basis.
this brings me back to my earlier suggestion of combining u21 and junior management and panels.

Does anyone know whos inside with the Kerry junior panel this year? From what ive heard they had a couple of trial games and the panel has been reduced to 24 but ive heard very little of who actually made it

Shane Murphy is a solid Keeper . Kevin O'Dwyer has a lot of experience . Gavin Crowley has potential . I always thought Gavin O'Grady had ability to get a look in with the Seniors . Maybe a good run with the Juniors will give him a better chance . Kieran Hurley too on the bench . He has good size and was a good Minor .

Seems to be a good mixture of youth and experience.
Garnett, O'Dwyer, Sean Og and Brennan all were key parts of the team that won in 2012.
7 lads who were involved with this years U21 team.
Pretty much everyone there has played either U21 or minor with Kerry.
Players from 20 different clubs.
I have to say I really wouldn't be surprised to see this team go on on a good run.

Well done to the Juniors - their campaign is off to a good start.
Biggest plus was the performance of the lads from this year's U21 panel.
Quality of the opposition is questionable but they are up and motoring now.

decent show from them, especially Paul Kennelly kicking 5 points - it really is astonishing how that many was not picked for the minors and the u-21, but then considering who was picking the team i guess is no surprise.
serious player.

Juniors played nice stuff yesterday but Clare had nothing up front, not scoring from play till very near the end. Ref gave an outrageous free to Clare early on when either Garnet or Sullivan fielded cleanly. Also booked the player!!!

Some of the frees he gave them bordered on the ridiculous. I thought Kerry didnt use Grady and Hickey enough, the half forwards seemed to want to do it all by themselves. If they got the ball in quicker to them two they would have done more damage. Its a fairly decent junior team, with a few that should make the step up to the senior panel in the next 2 or 3 years.

Yeah there was definitely a few charity frees in there. If the match had been closer, I'd imagine there is no way the ref would have blown for them. The booking was on Garnett - twas 1 of the most ridiculous bookings I've seen in a long while. Fingers crossed they can knock a few more games out of it.

I thought Gavin O'Grady would get a run with the Seniors this year he has Potential . I'd agree with this. Having seen him many times for UCC, Mid-Kerry and Kerry at various levels, I think he could definitely operate at the highest level. I have heard he has had some struggles with injuries, but he's only 22 this year so plenty time to make it yet.

Kerry Juniors had a big win over Cork in Tralee this evening, great display by Stephen Wallaces team. Gavin o Grady and Thomas Hickey corners forwards brilliant but the side played some beautiful fast flowing football. One down two to go Sunday.

Shane Murphy , Denis Daly , Gavin Crowley , Brian Crowley , Gavin O'Grady , and Thomas Hickey are good young talents who could get a look in a few years .

great display by kerry juniors last nite. played fast attacking football, all the forwards had the beating of their men, while defenders marked tight and tackled hard. midfielders dominated but got isolated from their half lines for about 10 min during second half. well done to stephen wallace for this positive football display. one man who showed serious potential is brian crowley, he has gotten stronger from his minor days and has great speed and accuracy. still has 1 year at u21.
will the fact that an ardfert man put on 2 john mitchells men help ease the strike in st brendans?

Shane Murphy , Denis Daly , Gavin Crowley , Brian Crowley , Gavin O'Grady , and Thomas Hickey are good young talents who could get a look in a few years . Add in five or six of this year's minors, barring immigration the future is very bright, another golden era on the horizon.

Great result. Although with Cork juniors winning the All-Ireland last year, this was essentially their B team so tougher tests lie ahead.

As regards "golden era" well other counties are also producing good young talent. Kerry will always be competitive but nothing to indicate that they will be ahead of the pack as they were in the 70s/80s or 2000-2009.

Dara Roche was unable make the Kerry Minors last year as he wadnt good enouhh, but is good enough to be a Kerry Junior 1 year later. Rather strange not sure who would be wrong there Mickey Ned or Stephen Wallace?

Wallace has the forwards moving very nicely but they also work very hard off the ball, that was evident in Ennis and the last night in Tralee. Midfield faded for a while in the second half and to be fair the Cork sub, Brosnan, made an impact. I'm not sure if the standout younger players would be physically up to it at Senior Intercounty level though.

Out of the starting team I reckon Shane Murphy, Kevin Dwyer, Greg Gibson, Brendan Sullivan, Brian Crowley, Ciaran Keating, Thomas Hickey and Gavan Grady would be well worth a look with the senior team next year

Rather strange not sure who would be wrong there Mickey Ned or Stephen Wallace? As far as I'm aware he was called in due to an injury to fellow clubman Cian Horan before the Clare game but got no run in either game.I'd say the main reason is that a lot of the eligible minor & u21 players of the last few years are currently out of the country so it will be interesting to see what will happen when they come back.

And what I find stranger is that fellow club man Jeff O donoghue isnt on the panel? I did here he was on trial but obviously didnt make it I think jeff is worth a place on the bench at the very least!

Reports on Sligo's games so far sligoweekender.ie/2014/05/11/coen-inspires-sligo-juniors/sligoweekender.ie/2014/05/19/sligo-retain-connacht-junior-title/Looking at the starting 15s from those two games and doing a quick flick through google - it looks like it closer to option A than option B - on a very quick scan at least 10 of the 16 from the starters have lined out for the Sligo senior team at some stage; some of these were FBD appearances but some were league and some championship. Looks like there are some serious footballers involved in this Sligo team; likely to be a massive step up in quality compared to the Clare game.
