Would the fairest thing be to play the Kerry v Kildare & Dublin v Cork as a double header in Thurles on the Saturday of the long weekend? I was thinking that Portlaoise or Tullamore would be appropriate venues- possibly one game to go ahead in Croke Park prior to the senior matches but which pairing? Cork/Dublin probably have more clout!

To be fair to the GAA, the Kerry Minors have played their QF on the same day as the Seniors more often than not. Hopefully it will be the case again this year as it's vital for the Minors to get a day in Croke Park before a potential Semi v Dubs.

They must be trying to get the Kerry crowd to stay overnight in Dublin on Sunday to make up for the Garth Brooks fiasco!

what in the name of god are mayo and armagh doing playing in croke park next sunday and not kerry and kildare. why could not kerry minors play before their seniors and mayo play before their seniors. alot of people will travel up by train on sunday and will have to do the same on monday to thurles to support the minors.
question for croke park; what supporters have the longest journey to travel to croke park?, so why put them to more expense. same goes for mayo supporters. totally daft

is shane ryan fit for match v kildare? I believe he is yes. A question to everyone distressed about the game not being paired with the Seniors. If we beat Kildare and Dublin beat Cork on Monday both which I predict to happen they will be drawn together in the Semis. So will we even get to see the Minors paired with the Seniors in Croke Park or will this semi final (if it does happen) be played before the Dublin Senior game (providing they win their quarter final game)... Could be an expensive few weeks if both teams qualify and people are looking to follow both teams.

I'd assume that the Minors are seeded the same way the Seniors are and the Munster Winners or whoever beats them, Kerry or Kildare, are due to play in the Semi Final against the Connacht Champions or whoever beats them, ie Mayo or Armagh.

That makes more sense Yellowbelly. I was misinformed that if ourselves and Dublin win that we would meet in the quarters. What you said seems more logical, thanks.

There was an injury scare about Shane Ryan but I understand that he will be o.k. He took full part in a training session in the Stadium last Friday night. There is no doubt but that they are an excellent panel of talented players but I have not seen a lot of structure in the way the play the game. Maybe I'm not tuned in to their game plan but I am waiting to be convinced.

Was talking to a friend of mine a short while ago and he was very disappointed with how Kildare played today. They set up with 2 sweepers and at times had 14 players behind the ball. They were outplayed in nearly every position and only Con Kavanagh at midfield could be pleased with his contribution. Their discipline was very poor and kerry cut them to shreds. He though that Tomás Ó Sé and Barry O Sullivan were Kerry's best on the day.
Kildare were dire and didn't really make a game of it, Mayo are very good, well drilled and physically strong. It should make for an excellent semi final. The 4 provincial winners through to the semi finals.

Well done to the minors, should be a cracking semi final between two good sides.
For me it was a case of Croke Park or Semple Stadium and I chose the former so any reports on this game would be much appreciated.

KERRY 2-15 KILDARE 1-8
Jack O’Connor is relishing the prospect of Kerry’s double date with Mayo at Croke Park on August 24th. Former senior manager O’Connor has masterminded the Kingdom’s march to the Electric Ireland All-Ireland minor semi-finals. “I am delighted with our lads, they have answered every question that has been asked of them this year,” said O’Connor. “It is fantastic to be looking forward to a double-header in Croke Park in three weeks.” Kerry’s winning margin yesterday, in front of 2,527 Semple Stadium spectators, was a comfortable ten points. But Shea Ryan’s goal with 10 minutes remaining had brought Kildare to within four. That was the cue for Kerry to step on the gas and it was Tomas Ó Sé a champion Irish dancer, who netted a brilliant 53rd minute goal. He fetched Brian Rayle’s free, powered past two defenders and fired a brilliant strike past Tadhg Foley. Ó Sé hit 1-2 in a spell that saw Kerry register 1-4 without reply and O’Connor reflected: “Tomás is a big, strong lad. He actually didn’t tog out for the last fortnight. He had a bit of a knock. “We thought the edge might be gone of him, but he proved today he was doing a bit of dancing at home to keep fit!” Struggling Kildare, despite showing some fight, were always struggling after Michael Kelly was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 48th minute. Kildare had also lost Seán Healy to a black card before half-time and they were fortunate not to have one or two more players suffer a similar fate. Kerry also suffered black card woe of their own when Micheál Burns, who had scored three points, was dismissed in the 38th minute. By half-time, Kerry were 1-7 to 0-4 clear and they dominated the second quarter of the game. Jordan Kiely netted in the 14th minute after leading scorer Killian Spillane created the opening by showing real strength cutting in along the endline.
KERRY: S Ryan (0-1, 45); C Coffey, B Ó Béaglaoich, T O’Sullivan; D O’Donoghue, A Barry, B Sugrue; B O’Sullivan (0-1), M O’Connor; M Flaherty, L Carey (0-2), M Burns (0-3); J Kiely (1-0), K Spillane (0-6, five frees), T Ó Sé (1-2). Subs: B Rayle for Burns (b/c, 38 mins), L Kearney for O’Connor (42 mins), R Wharton for Sugrue (49 mins), S O’Sullivan for Carey (53 mins), I Parker for Kiely (58 mins), J Foley for O’Donoghue (58 mins). KILDARE: T Foley; S Healy, M Hyland, A Scully; J Flynn, P Mescal, S Ryan (1-0); R Feely, C Kavanagh; E Flynn, C Hartley (0-1), S Lawlor; B McCormack (0-3, one free), S Dempsey (0-2, free, 45), A McConville. Subs: J Healy for S Healy (b/c 29 mins), P Murray for Lawlor (30 mins), M Kelly (0-1) for McConville (30 mins), E O’Donoghue (0-1) for McCormack (42 mins), M Bursey for Feely (56 mins) Referee: N Cullen (Fermanagh).

A lack lustre game but one we were never going to lose; Kildare seemed to come with a damage limitation mentality and had many men behind the ball throughout the game. Barra O'Suilleabhain was my man of the match closely followed by Tomas O'Se- Micheal Burns was heading for that accolade but for his black card, but only the ref knows why it was issued. Kildare were physically imposing and played to this strength and were intent on disrupting the play as often as possible; poor refereeing added to their game plan with many players lucky to stay on the field particularly for black card infringements. We are in a semi final and will only play better; our defence is a problem and though we have tried many formations we continue to struggle- maybe O'Flatharta could be accommodated there given the forward talent at our disposal. Jack has much to ponder in the coming weeks but it's a "nice" headache to have.

Nice display from Kerry , yes Burns was the stand out in the first half . Complete implosion by Kildare in 2nd half.

I think Rob Wharton and Liam Kearney should start the next day . Kearney is a little stronger and better in the Air than Mark o' Connor . Mark is a good player and is there again next year . The Forwards look set they were all good today . Brian Rayle , Stephen o' Sullivan and Cathal Bambury are good subs to bring on . Mayo look very strong too .

A solid performance today, not spectacular by any means but in control throughout the game. Kildare seemed more interested in trying to rattle our fellas but I felt they only shot themselves in the foot. How they only had 1 black card is beyond me. We had solid performances throughout the team but as has already been said Barry O Sullivan and Tomas O Se were immense. Burns would have been right with them too only for a dubious black card by the ref, kicked 3 wonderful points in the first half and the fella got on a load of ball.
Shane Ryan was his usual self in goals, made a spectacular save in the first half that if a professional soccer player made it you would never hear or see the end of it. Full back line were on top all game. Begley and Tom Sullivan were very good, and Coffey after a shaky start grew into the game. Half back line were alright, I would second the motion of moving Matthew Flaherty back here if things arent going well early on against Mayo for such a small guy he would make a huge difference and is the life and soul of this team
Barry was outstanding at midfield caught some great ball and carried even more. He is a real tough man, reminds me of an old school midfielder. Marc while less spectacular was solid in the middle of the field but will need to a few big weeks in training to keep his place as i thought when Kearney he came in he lifted us when Kildare got the goal and caught 3 massive balls and drove us on when we were challeneged.
Half forwards were their usual selves. While not getting a score Flaherty had a industious game and belted of men twice his size and kept going, this guy is a gem. Carey kicked two great scores off the left and right if memory serves me right in the first. Played well and justified Jacks decision of putting him in instead of Rayel who wasn't bad when he came in. Burns was on fire getting on ball, taking on his man and kicked 3 lovely points in the first half, will feel hard done by with the black card but if anything it kept him out of trouble as Kildare were trying to rise of lads for the whole game.
Jordi Kiely inside while was quiet as to his usual standards took his goal well and worked hard especially after getting one belt under the stand and being floored to the ground. He got straight back up and won a sideline ball by winning the ball of the same man he had been shouldered by. Killian was doubled inside for the whole game, he is a marked man. Took his frees well but really made the difference when he was brought out to the 40. Reminded me of the Gooch pulling strings out there, his foot passing was something else. This guy is class, one for the future for sure. Tomas O Se where to start ended up with 1-2, could and should have had more only for being tackled to the ground every time he beat his man and the other fellas standing behind his man (which was nearly every time he got the ball). His best game in a Kerry jersey to date and hadn't trained in two weeks due to a dead leg... so the best is yet to come.
Mayo up next, a different kettle of fish to Kildare I would imagine. Missed the highlights of them tonight but will catch it on the player. We have as good as a chance as we ever had. Regardless of winning it out or not, the future is bright.

kerry would have learned little after todays game, early points from carey and burns followed by kielys goal finished kildares challenge early on . barry sullivan controlled midfield and the pace of the game. kildare though physically stronger were very poor, seemed to have no game plan once they went behind by a couple of scores and were lucky to have finished with only 1 black card. kerrys backs will face much harder battles than this non contest. the first game was a much better game as dublin beat cork. cork did most of the attacking early on 6-2 up but were hit by 2 goals on the counter attack to trail by 3 at halftime. dublin have huge men but cork full back line defended well. cork goal brought it back to 3 points but dubs held out. on form should be dublin/ kerry final. has the rule that a kickout should travel outside the 21 been done away with? happened 2 today
