I notice the Kerry team has been picked to play in the AFL next Sunday. Is this a new tournament?

Very strong line up. Glad to see Brosnan getting a break. He was well off the pace on Sunday and cost us four points directly.

Very close to the strongest 15. I think 8-15 is exactly how the team will line out in championship. Of the backs I think that Brosnan, Young, Marc and Tomas are certainties to start. Hard to know with the rest. Crowley, Maguire, Enright and Aidan going for the two other spots. At the moment would probably go for Crowley and Aidan.

Nice to see Daniel Bohane returning to the panel. Hope he has an injury free time of it for the rest of the year.

Tomas O Se is back after the Mayo game. And I'm also curious as to what happened to Tomas Mac An tSaoir but in my view Brian Kelly is a better goal keeper, he is more reliable and a better shot stopper, I'm glad to see Kieran Donaghy named at wing forward, that seems to be his most effective position.

After a few games of worthwhile experimenting we are putting out arguably our strongest available 15 on Sunday. It's a team you would have to have confidence in and hopefully that will be borne out.
The full forward line is the one that I have been anxious to see for quite a while now. It looks lethal provided Curtin can continue his upward trajectory. We also have the option of Declan and Star alternating as needs be during the match. Imagine being a corner back on Declan trying to get to grips with him when suddenly you realise that you now have to get to grips with Donaghy! A test for anyone and a head wrecker to boot.
For most of us watching it's the performance of the backs that will hold most interest. Despite finding some real potential in Crowley and Maguire (delighted they're both starting) I still feel that we are unsure about full back and centre back. I fear that this will still be the case come the summer. I am not for a second questioning Marc or Aidan as players but I do wonder whether they or the team are best served by them playing in those positions. However our options appear slim. What a pity Bohan got injured when he did. It appeared as though the selectors were about to give him a run at full back. Maybe it would not have worked but it's a pity the question was not answered.
I predict a win for Kerry on Sunday and the prospect of another Kerry Cork match does not whet my appetite one little bit I must say. I'd be happier playing Down in Croker in the final and put a few things right against them.

Strong team named to start. We should handle Mayo. I dont fancy another Kerry Cork game for the final. We will see them again in Munster and they will be there ahead of us in Croker in the last 8 if we get there !!!!!! Nice lad and all that they are but familiarity breeds complacency all round. Down would be better for several reasons but I fear its going to be Cork again

Kerry v Mayo, Croke Park, 2pm - Todays Indo
The loss of Aidan O’Shea from Mayo’s midfield unavoidably drains a little of the colour from this fixture. Arguably his side’s best player against Dublin and Kerry, O’Shea is looking at a long spell on the sidelines due to a flare-up of an old injury to the base of his spine.
Had he been able to take his place and then hold his own around the centre, Mayo’s prospects here would have been ample. As it is, the three-point spread has an inviting look about it.
Kerry have named just about as strong a team as Jack O’Connor can lay his hands on. Short of only Eoin Brosnan and Tomás Ó Sé from what will be his championship side, he’s plainly not coming to Croke Park to spare the horses.
In Paddy Curtin, they look to have found a ball-winning upgrade on Kieran O’Leary in the forward line. Curtin’s use tomorrow will make for an interesting watch, given that Kerry spent the first half of their All-Ireland semi-final last year hoisting high balls into Kieran Donaghy with little success. You’d imagine they’ll be a touch more inventive here.
Mayo came with a good run towards the end of the league and well deserve their place in the semi-final. Hard to see them jumping this particular hurdle though.
Cork v Down, Croke Park, 4pm
Down can’t exactly be bouncing at the sight of advancing Cork jerseys at this point. The sides have met four times over the past two years and the closest James McCartan’s players have come is the one-point defeat in the 2010 All-Ireland final.
Last summer when Cork were sleepwalking their way out of the All-Ireland series, Conor Counihan’s side still perked up for long enough to hand Down a 12-point hiding in the qualifiers. Even the league encounter between them in February turned into a cakewalk, with Cork winning at home, 4-11 to 0-10.
As if the task wasn’t onerous enough, Down had Dan Gordon and Danny Hughes ruled out during the week and are already without Liam Doyle and Damien Rafferty. Paul McComiskey is back in the squad but he hasn’t played a game yet.
For all that, they finished the league in much better fettle than they began it, winning three of their last four games including victories over Mayo away and Dublin at home in successive weekends.
McCartan joked about being careful what you wish for during the week and you get the feeling that he could have done with some time off to get everyone fit and ready for Fermanagh on June 3rd. Cork will surely oblige him here.

Adain OShea is a big loss for Mayo at midfield tomorrow. Difficult to see these ties drawing anymore than 10 thousand per game. There will be plenty of echos tomorrow in the stands, we might even hear the seagulls during the game

Was Aidan O'Shea not named in the Mayo team ? I take it that was a tactic of some sort.
I wouldn't see much room for complacency here. Mayo are one of the teams capable of ignoring the form book on occasion and coming up with a big result.
I don't like all this guff about ourselves and our neighbours in the Final. It was all the rage about the "dream" semi-final last August and look how that worked out.
Best of luck to all concerned. Ciarrai Abu.

O Shea is supposed to have a groin injury that would keep him out for 6 weeks, PLUS a hamstring injury! I think Mayo are waiting for an amputation or a stroke before removing him!!! And it's only April, let the guy rest and recover before doing even more damage.

What was the extent of Bohane's injury ? Was he not slated to be FB and would that not be the case now that he is back going into championship ? I hate to see Marc tied up in FB which he should be in the corner

According to radio Kerry Galvin playing a blinder...our backs seem to be giving away silly frees...

Our backs giving away a lot of frees, though that last one against Enright looked dubious.
