FT UCC 3-15 CIT 1-6
Hickey and Keane getting 2 of the UCC goals [Dorman gone the 3rd] with Cox getting a rake of points from both play and frees - think he got 8 points in total. Not bad from the Kerry reps
UCC play the winner of Queens and IT Sigo in the quarter final on Feb 11.

What age is Brendan O'Sullivan from Valentia? I think he's around the 23/24 mark. Not 100% though.

Couple of minutes highlights from the game in Cork today:

I notice that Paul Geaney was replaced on 37 minutes. At that stage it would appear that UCC were well on top. It did not say if he was injured. Perhaps, Eamon had an understanding with Billy Morgan that he would be "rested" early if UCC were in command with a view to the Mayo game. Judging by the the number of suggested absentees, Paul would be a key addition.

I thought Paul Geandy walked off fairly gingerly, surprised more hasn't been made of it to be honest

Conor Cox impressed yesterday scoring 9 points 4/5 from play. With all the injuries to the Kerry forward s he will surely get game time in the league.

Great scoring again by Cox, he got five from play against the IT
Here's what Billy Morgan had to say...
"“I think he is an out-and-out class player. I expected him to be on the Kerry panel last year. It beats me why he wasn’t,” said Morgan. “I am sure after today, like he was outstanding for us. He has been outstanding for us all this season and they’ll have to take note.”"

It seems real bright that Sigerson week clashes exactly with the commencement of the new NFL............

It seems real bright that Sigerson week clashes exactly with the commencement of the new NFL............ It's arguably the best competition outside of Inter-County Senior Football, higher quality than the U21 Championship IMO. Should be marketed and pushed as such.

Eh well he was but then went off travelling ........ you will find he probably only went travelling due to the fact he wasnt getting a look in on the panel.

Id say Morgan is one of those who's of the opinion he left for America because he was told he wouldn't break into the team

billy morgan praising his man while stirring things at the same time. jose how are ya I almost felt sorry for poor aul Billy with his comments after the UCC v CIT game about derbies and how no-one likes being beaten by their near neighbours - in the video below when he said this, there was almost a millisecond when you could see the pain in him when his memory flashed back to all the times Kerry had got the result over Cork. Anyway sure hasnt Billy been doing a dandy job polishing up some of our lads for intercounty football, so we will allow him some small morsels of comfort. livegaelic.com/news/video-highlights-uccs-15-point-sigerson-victory-cit/

On Cox just looking back at how he featured in the league last year.
he was 2nd sub on in the Dublin game played all the Derry game - scoring 7 points 4 from frees played all the Mayo game - scoring 4 points 3 from frees unused sub against Tyrone and Kildare wasnt named on the sub's bench against Westmeath or Cork
I thought then and I still think it was a very odd decision by himself and Culhane to go to the States given the nature of the squad last year - in terms of the number of retirements and the injuries.
With the competition for places to get on the Kerry team you really don't want to be handing other lads you are competing for places with the advantage by heading off stateside for a summer.

List of Kerry lads who featured in the Sigerson yesterday.
Not a great result for ITT to go out. They were missing Denis McElligott and Ciaran O’Connell (Austin Stacks), Mike Finnegan (Brosna) and Darren Wallace (Ardfert) due to club commitments. Not often you only see only scorer in a game with Jack Savage getting all 7 points for ITT.
UCD, UL and Carlow were the winners.
UCD Jack Barry (Kerry)
IT Carlow Shane Murphy (Kilcummin, Kerry)
UL Eamon Kiely (Brosna, Kerry) Cathal Long (Dingle, Kerry) Denis Daly (St Mary’s, Kerry) Subs Bryan O’Shea (Dr Crokes, Kerry)
IT Tralee Shane Kenny (Castlegregory, Kerry) Mark Egan (Dr Crokes, Kerry) Jason Lyne (Dr Crokes, Kerry) Sean Flynn (Buttevant, Cork) Gavin Crowley (Templenoe, Kerry) Cian Horan (Glenflesk, Kerry) Cillian Cromwell (Monaghan) George Bastible (John Mitchels, Kerry) Paul McMahon (St Pat’s, Kerry) Peter Nash (Kildimo/Pallaskenry, Limerick) Jack Savage (Kerins O’Rahilly’s, Kerry) Alan Duggan (Austin Stacks, Kerry) Gavin O’Shea (Dr Crokes, Kerry) Conor Keane (Legion, Kerry) Padraig O’Shea (Currow, Kerry) Subs Darren Wallace (Ardfert, Kerry) for O Shea (B/C 13) Kieran Mulvihill (Ballylongford, Kerry) for Duggan (47) Liam O Sullivan (St Pats, Kerry) for McMahon (47) Padraig Quille (St Senan’s, Kerry) for Bastible (54)

IT Sligo have been thrown out for fielding an ineligible player. Queens did the same so they're not allowed to take their place. Bye for UCC to the Semi v UL/Carlow IT.

Not a fan of colleges playing in county championships - wrong time of year (exams) and a competition too many for those players who are already high risk burnout candidates.
