Was at the Cork championship match vs CIT last week, UCC missing a lot of players due to exams were very poor. JB Spillane had a fine game at midfield alongside young Keane from Legion. Cox started at full forward and had a nightmare, not for the first time in the Pairc.. Was there many Kerry lads playing with CIT? 1. Jamie Cooper Rathmore 2. Damien O'Sullivan Spa 3. Mark Griffin Michaels/Foilmore 5. Anthony Sweeney Listry 9. Brendan O'Sullivan Valentia 13. Phillip O'Connor Cordal 17. Pa Joy Laune Rangers 23. Ciaran Keating Skellig Rangers 25. Daniel Daly St. Marys I have a feeling that relatively more Kerry people go to UCC than CIT... although that could be wrong.

Ya Annascaultilidie has them all there. Was surprised to see James Walsh on the sideline and not on the pitch for CIT but i was told he was suspended. Anyone know what this was for?

What ever happened to BJ O Sullivan? He's still playing away for his club Adrigole and the Beara division hurlingman. Himself and Alan O'Connor were both sent off recently for an 'incident' in the Senior Championship match between Beara and Carbery. Brendan Jer came off second best judging by a photo in The Examiner.

He must have finished up with Cork when he was young enough? Was a decent player in his day He was one of our main men for a while alright in the mid-noughties, more a sign of the times in truth. I'd say it was 2006 or 2007 that he stopped making the team, can't have been anymore than 26 or 27.

Tomás O Sé set to enter Gaelic football management with UCC thescore.thejournal.ie/tomas-o-se-kerry-ucc-1088283-Sep2013/KERRY DEFENSIVE LEGEND Tomás O Sé is set to make a foray into GAA management at third-level with UCC. It was finalized yesterday that O Sé will be in charge of the UCC Fresher Gaelic football team for the coming 2013-14 season. The acquisition of the 35 year-old is a coup for UCC with O Sé having claimed five All-Ireland senior football medals with Kerry and having won five Allstar awards during his career. O Sé was part of the Kerry side that lost the epic recent All-Ireland semi-final clash over Dublin and there is uncertainty over whether he will continue playing at inter-county senior level for the 2014 campaign. O Sé has been living in Cork for several years and will now be steering the college’s first-year football recruits. Former Cork manager Billy Morgan is to continue to take the reins of the UCC Sigerson Cup side this year. Tomás is following a family tradition of GAA management. His older brother Darragh is entering the second year of his stint at the helm of the Kerry U21 football side. While his late uncle Páidí won All-Ireland titles as Kerry senior boss in 1997 and 2000, guided Westmeath to the 2004 Leinster senior title and also had a stint with the Clare footballers.

I think this is a bad sign for those of us hoping Tomas would continue playing for another year.

I don't know, heard on the grapevine that Tomas and Marc will play on next year and that Eoin and Paul were heading for the long grass in the meadow.
Fresher training commitments would hardly stop a lad from playing intercounty football.

Can't we have some restraint of trade clause or something that can be invoked? Some of those Freshers might be Cork footballers in the future and we can't have them learning too many trade secrets!!!

Judging by the last few years many of those Freshers may be or may have been county minors for Kerry! It might ensue that none of them go by the wayside in the metropolis that is Cork. Too many lads don't bother with college football or take an a la carte approach. Could be seen as a good move for the u21 management as they'll have an inside man keeping an eye on lads.

13-man UCC see off NUI Maynooth to reach Sigerson Cup final www.thescore.ie/ucc-nui-maynooth-1327297-Feb2014/UCC 1-14 NUI Maynooth 0-12 UCC SURVIVED THE second-half dismissals of Alan Cronin and Michael Quinlivan to defeat NUI Maynooth and book their place in tomorrow’s Sigerson Cup final this afternoon. Playmaker Cronin got a straight red card for an off-the-ball offence after 39 minutes. Eleven minutes from the end, Michael Quinlivan became the second UCC player to be sent-off, with a yellow card booking quickly followed by a black card for a deliberate body collide. UCC had to play into a gale-force wind in the second-half yet refused to buckle with Kerry’s Conor Cox landing four brilliant points into a gale-force wind in the second-half. The 2011 champions reached their fourth final in five years with this famous success at Queen’s University in Belfast. Captain Paul Geaney struck a crucial first-half goal for the side managed by Billy Morgan and registered 1-3 in all in the opening period. All-Ireland winners Paddy McBrearty and Michael Darragh McAuley were influential for NUI Maynooth, particularly in the first-half. McBrearty was their top scorer with 0-6, including three from play over the hour, and McAuley won and carried a lot of ball. Geaney got the decisive goal for UCC in the seventh minute. The Maynooth goalkeeper’s kickout was held up in the wind and only travelled about 25 metres before Cronin won it and fed Geaney who took one solo before burying the ball back past Mark Donnellan. It gave UCC a precious cushion and they still led by 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time. Maynooth had closed the deficit to two points when Cronin was dismissed in the 39th minute. McBrearty showed great leadership to step up and hit two monster frees to draw Maynooth level on 41 minutes – the first time the sides had been level since the sixth minute. With a man down, their lead gone and facing into a hellish breeze, UCC looked to have everything against them but they dropped bodies back and were smart on the ball, picking their runs cleverly. Even after Quinlivan’s dismissal, defenders David Culhane and Tom Clancy broke forward to score important points with Cox and substitute Sean Kiely adding the final touches to an impressive victory. Scorers for UCC: Conor Cox 0-7 (0-4f), Paul Geaney 1-3, David Culhane, Tom Clancy, Michael Quinlivan, Sean Kiely 0-1 each. Scorers for NUI Maynooth: Paddy McBrearty 0-6 (0-3f), Eamonn Wallace, Paddy Brophy (0-1f) 0-2 each, Paul Cribben, P Faulkner 0-1 each. UCC: Brian Kelly (Kerry); David Culhane (Kerry), Eoin O’Mahony (Cork), Fergal McNamara (Kerry); Tom Clancy (Cork), Conor Dorman (Cork), Brian Shanahan (Cork); David Nation (Cork), Ian Maguire (Cork); Luke Connolly (Cork), Alan Cronin (Cork), Brian O’Driscoll (Cork); Conor Cox (Kerry), Michael Quinlivan (Tipperary), Paul Geaney (Kerry). Subs: Sean Kiely (Cork) for Nation (45), Sean Keane (Kerry) for Connolly (45). NUI MAYNOOTH: Mark Donnellan (Kildare); Colin O’Shea (Kildare), Padraig Faulkner (Cavan), David Hyland (Kildare); Eric Lowndes (Dublin), Fergal Conway (Kildare), Jamie Gonoud (Westmeath); Michael Dara McAuley (Dublin), Dean Kelly (Donegal); Paul Cribben (Kildare), Paddy Brophy (Kildare), Eamonn Wallace (Meath); David Duke (Kildare), Paddy McBrearty (Donegal), Ronan Kennedy (Leitrim). Subs: Emile Mullan (Dublin) for O’Shea (23), Seamus Mattimoe (Meath) for Kennedy (38), Dean McNicholas (Westmeath) for Kelly (51), Fergus Toolan (Meath) for Duke (58).

Tense finish- great to see UCC win it- proper students and have always had a policy of not trying to buy the Sigerson as teams like DCU/DIT/Sigo IT/ITT have done

Has Paul Geaney played much football at midfield.
You would have to be impressed by his fielding from some excellent kickouts by Brian Kelly in the second half. Jordanstown were getting on top and obviously Billy Morgan felt that Paul Geaneys ability to spring up for a high kickout would be important and he made some vital contributions there. Brian Kelly could well be Kerrys next keeper.

Jesus Billy Morgan never lost it, a fair achievement against a star studded Jordanstown team. He couldn't but have a cut at them after.. "You can't buy success, we at least had 33 genuine students on our panel!" Love it. Joe Brolly was winding it up on Twitter too. Students 0-9 Jordanstown 0-2! Congrats to My old alma mater!
