If we do manage to get past Longford ,it looks like we'll be out again the following Saturday ( 5th Aug.) against Armagh as part of a double header with Cork taking on Donegal / Fermanagh in Croke Park.

Prepare for some gentle slagging but you'll be most welcome especially if you say bad things about Cork!

Not a chance of getting a ticket harps. Kerry fans are renowned for showing up at matches (home and away) in droves. I'm so proud of our fans. Insert sarcasm here.

Howz this look. Strong down the middle. Speed on wings. Tomas and marc to turn defense into attack with speed with maybe marc moving back for later games with more dangerous forwards. I have'nt heard of any real dangerous longford guy but if you have let us know. Moynihans gone slow but with speed either side of him could be alright. Brosnan and Fitzmaurice to do the donkey work and quality around them to finish scores off. Darren could be used as impact sub. I dont know enough about griffin to start him. If Seamus dont work out take him out move fitzmaurice back and bring in declan sullivan who would have something to prove. Mossy unlucky but they dont seem to stick with him when push comes to shove.
D Murphy
T O'Sullivan M Mac A O'Mahony
T O'Se S Moynihan M o'Se
D O'Se K Donneghy
P Galvin Fitzmaurice S O'Sullivan
C Cooper Brosnan M F Russell

Fitzmaurice aint a forward, pure and simple. What has Eoin Brosnan done to justify a place on the team the next day. tommy griffin has been on the set up for 6 years or so and if he's ggod enough to be on the panel for this lenght of time its about time to start him.
I wonder is now the time to try Seamus on the half forward line as has been suggested here for some while. I've never been a fan of the playing Donaghy full forward idea but feck it every other experiment we've tired in the forward line has failed so far this year so why not chance it.
I'd go for this team the next day:
Murphy (if he can get his kickouts right) Marc Mike Mc Tom Sull Tomas Aidan Mossie Darragh Griffin Galvin Moynihan Darren Gooch Donaghy MFR
Maybe this line up smacks of desperation but damn it desperate times and all that. We've created 2 goal chances in the championship so far so theres major surgery needed up front. Something needs to be done and this forward line up couldnt do much worse than whats gone before it in the last 4 games.

We've seen a few posts of what team people would like to see the next day, but what changes do you think will happen (besides Donaghy for Fitzmaurice)? Let's face it - it's very unlikely that both Bryan Sheehan and Declan O'Sullivan will get dropped.

Put Moynihan at 6, drop mossie and put brosnan at 11 and you have my team.
One last chance for brosnan to play in his favourite position. The only reason i would stick with him is because he has been messed around positionwise for an age. Have to start griffin and take a chance on donaghy to try and create a goal chance. He has stuck a few for the Rock there!

Looking back over the posts, there has been around 20 suggestions so far for the team v Longford. ...& of the 20, only 3 people managed to agree on the same 6 forwards! - So don't be too hard on the selectors over the coming week! - there is obviously no easy solution.

Hello to all of you in Kerry,
Enjoying all the posts here lads- great stuff altogether.
Out here in Toronto, we wanted to let the Kerry Team know that we are supporting them. It looks like they could do with knowing that they have all the support of their fans now. I like the team by you Austin Stacks Abu. You have done your homework alright. It is much easier for you at home because you know all the players throughout the county etc. Was home this year in the summer and saw some inter-county games in June. Football is still very alive in Kerry. From an outsiders point of view, it seems like the team has not jelled yet especially in the six forward positions. Now we have a real opportunity to make that happen. The challenge is there for us to grab. I like the idea of having Marc O'shea come forward into half-back position. Marc and his brother Tomas have the pace, and would like to see more of them bursting out of attack and linking with the half forwards you mentioned there (Darren O'Sullivan, Paul Galvin and Brosnan. More of this needs to happen and less of huge reliance on the full forward lines and in particular Gooch. There are six forwards in the line out, make them all work to keep their place. I heard Ambrose O'Donovan on Kerry Radio talking after the game on Sunday and he said just that. The five other forwards need to grind down and put the ball over the bar. Easier said that done, I know, but that's how we see it over here. We need to give confidence to the new players out there, make them take their chances and not be too hard on them. Lots of dicisions to be made by management would say in the next few weeks, hope they make the right decisions.
Also way too much hand-passing by our backs the last day-Kick the ball out of defense as fast as possible!!!!
Leave Daragh in the Middle of the field-he has too much ability for full-forward plus he has been the cog in the Kerry team now for a number of years-not a good time for a dramatic change like that.
Bye for now.

Hey Kerry North,
Hope that management takes a look at your suggestions here. Good ones too. The half backs I believe will play an important role in the attacks also. I hate to see Darren O'Sullivan benched only because he is a young lad and needs the experience. He needs the confidence and has loads of pace. I can't comment on whether he is fit enough or not. In fact, fitness answers a lot of the demise throughout that team. Also, Brosnan one last chance for him from us over here-hope he's not benched either. That man needs to get a blasted goal or two before the year is out!
Anyhow, it's good that they have the other options to put in if need be.

I would think of fitzm as a ball winner for the inside forwards and if he could get a point or two it would help more. Liam Hassett used to a similar type of job and we've never replaced his strong ball winning skills. Brosnan has plenty experience and can get vital goals. Maybe it is time for griffin to get a chance I cant see him starting though

How about:
Murphy Marc McCarthy Tom Sull Tomas Seamus Aidan
Dara Donaghy
Galvin Griffin Sean Sullivan
Gooch Sheehan MFR
I think Declan needs a rest. I think Darren is more of an impact sub. He has great pace but does not score a lot and is more effectively when teams are tiring. Sheehan has not set the work alight but we need a free taker. Play Griffin at centre forward the way cork were using their centre forward........

Thats the exact same team I would have watchdahop but I would try Sheehan on the 40,griffin at midfield and Donaghy at full-forward!But I would have the same 15 that you have!

Kerry will beat Longford Handy(Well at least they should!), and dont go giving me the line that "oh Longford pushed Dublin and beat Derry"...blah blah blah. This is Longford for the love of God!!! We should be beating them handy. We are Kerry dont forget or is it really a sign of where we are at that we are worrying about Longford. If so I say give them the game and let them get annilated by Armagh beacuse thats what will hapen to us if we cant dispose of Longford with ease!!!

to be honest i dont see sheehan as someone who will excell on the fullforward line,i dont believe he has the speed or the positional sence reqiured to be outstanding at fullforward,i think its a waste of time playing him there,he needs to be further out the field.

If we struggled against Waterford and Tipp we'll definitely struggle against Longford. Although remember the first qualifier game Kerry played in 2002.

O’Connor moves to silence rumour mill Kerry manager Jack O’Connor 21 July 2006
Jack O’Connor has lashed out at the rumours circulating in some quarters suggesting discontent in the Kerry senior football squad.
The manager is adamant that harmony exists and says he’s powerless to prevent any gossip or hearsay to the contrary:
“Obviously, some people are going around spreading rumours, but I can’t do anything about that. People will talk if they want to talk and it seems some people get a kick out of generating such malicious rumours, but that’s not my problem.
“In fact, these people might think that they might be creating unrest but they are actually doing the team and the players a service.
“Contrary to what some people might think, the lads are really looking forward to getting back into action against Longford.
“We had a meeting behind closed doors on Sunday evening and I must say we left that room more together as a team than we have ever been.”

We have struggled in Munster with at least the last four years lucky to overcome Limerick on a number of occasions. Limerick later went out tamely in the losers round each year proving what an ordinary team they really were. Likewise with regards Cork. In ’02 we were dreadful against them in both the drawn and replay and then went on to produce the best football since the golden years with the exception of the second half of that years AI. The improvement post Munster was so evident for all to see.
When push came to shove in the league final, when all seemed lost at half time, Kerry produced the goods and brushed Galway aside with ease. I’m expecting another big backlash from Kerry with Gooch leading the way. He was so unlucky the last day, he is just a goal or a point away from the Gooch we all know so well. Tomas O’Se and Tom Sullivan also showed signs of returning to their best with Seamus a colossus at centre back. Marc is our beat player at the moment and very impressive going forward meaning he should be wing back. The only worry is the form of Mike McCarthy but expect him to also come good, he is too good a player not to. Diarmuid Murphy is the best shot stopper around therefore our defense is set in stone.
Here is my team for what its worth.
Diarmuid Tom Sullivan Mike Mac Aidan Tomas Seamus Marc Darragh O’Se Tommy Griffin Galvin Brosnan Sheehan Mike Frank Donaghy Gooch
Darren O’Sullivan used as an impact sub late when he is much more beneficial to the team with Declan chopping at the bit with a point to prove.

hey lads, this is my first post since the cork game. which was a very disappionting day. think eveything has already been covered so i wont comment on that game. Now for us onto Longford. A lot of people are expecting wholesale changes for this game. Those of you looking for Dara to go fullforward or Seamus to go center forward will be sorely let down. This will not happen. And as far as im concerned rightly so. Why in god's name would JOC take our 2 best performing players from their natural positions. I can only see the managment team making 2 or maybe 3 cahnges which includes Kieran coming back into the side. What Tommy Griffin has to do to get a start is anyone's guess at this stage. But i do see JOC an co. persisting with Dec and Eoin etc. The most likely person to be dropped would be Bryan Sheehan harsh i think but i can see this happening. The backs are a solid unit as good as you'll get anywhere. I would swap Seamus to wing back though. He seems more willing to attack than Tom O Se so far. So a bit more room for him to make a dash at the opposition after that very solid. I must take my hat off to Marc O Se. The guy is having one of his best years yet and is toiling away. He seems like the kind of fella who would and probably could play anywhere for you. To the forward divison. MFR has to start. Whatever anyone says about his current form at least he will have a go at the post. Scored a lovely point with his first kick the last day. I would start with Griffin and Sean Sull to see how they would get on. Coz i honestly think we should be beating Longford handy enough SHOULD be anyway. Anyway for a change ill pick who i think JOC will pick and then for what its worth(nothing really) my own 15. Kerry(probable) Diarmuid M Marc O Se Mike Mac Tom Sull Aiden O M Seamus M Tom O Se Kieran D Dara O Se Paul G Eoin Bros Tommy Griffin MFR/Darren Dec O Sull Gooch My Team Diarmuid M Marc O Se Mike Mac Tom Sull Aiden O M Tom O Se Seamus M Kieran D Dara O Se Paul G Tommy Griffin Sean Sull MFR Bryan Sheehan Gooch P.S any truth to the rumour that JOC asked Quill and Quirke back to the panel but they declined??? To be honest if its true can't really blame Quill, but Qiurke??

Mike Mac was out 4 a while with injury. i fancy him to regain form. will there be 15k at the game? i have my doubts. not sure about donaghy at 14. no history of form there - we were cleaned out at midfield v cork so i would put him back midfield
