Down for Celtic Park according to Kerry website. In the mid nineties, possibly 95 or 96 I travelled to Ballinascreen to DY v KY. Like that couldnt locate it on a map. Stayed in Derry City the night before. Different times then, troubles etc. I remember following a car decked in Derry colours the morning of the match. At match venue was welcomed by a sign saying "welcome to Draperstown". No mention of Ballinascreen on the Queens map which I was looking at!

Just planning ahead for the Derry game and see that its on in "Ballinscreen" any ideas where abouts in Derry this is? Ballinascreen, I am reliably informed by my Derry friends, is the Gaelic for Draperstown (the Drapers only arrived with the Plantation!). The grounds are located outside the town past Sperrin Galvinisers - it was formerly the County grounds. Just find your way to Draperstown on the day and follow the crowd. Personally I'm very much looking forward to this match as it will probably be the shorted distance (since my childhood) I have traveled to support Kerry. However I am led to believe that although there is a covered stand it is standing room only - not the best for a wild march day. Perhaps the Derry forum members will be able to confirm this.

This according to wikipedia: Draperstown (Baile na Crois in Irish) is a village in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in the Sperrin Mountains, named after the London Drapers' Company. It is 12 km north-west of Magherafelt in the Upper Moyola Valley. It is commonly referred to by locals as Ballinascreen (Irish: Baile na Scrine) - the parish name of the area. It had a population of 1,638 people in the 2001 Census. Administratively it is part of the Magherafelt District Council area. anyone think there will be changes for the game ??cant see the same team starting to be honest Tomás and Donaghy back training so i would expect to see them togging out at some stage, will be interesting to see where Tomás ends up. don't know if we can expect him to have the legs for the half-backs again, besides Marc was outstanding as number 6 against Tyrone, really drove the team on, so he stays in the half-back line now that i changed my mind below!

My team for This match would be.
Kealy Padraig,Aidan O shea,Killian, Aidan O Mahony,Marc O Se,Bohane Moran,Scanlon, Darren,Declan,Paul Gooch,Donaghy(if fit)Tommy Walsh.
Is Kealy trainin with the team,he's the best keeper in the county and should get his chance here.Cant see it happening though.i have absoultely no complaints about the other two keepers who have both performed perfectly in the opening games.
If Star is fir i would like to see him starting.I think that those six will be startin come championship time
Think of the options come summer time,i wouldnt like to be a selector tryin to pick a team there,In addition to the 15 i have named u have 2 keepers.Tomas O se,Tadhg K,Tom Sull,Tommy G,Dara o Se,Micheal Quirke,donnacha walsh,sean sull,sheehan and many more pushing hard for a place.

Well lads. I seen a lot of ye are asking where abouts Ballinascreen is?. Well it's in Derry
Is there a bus going again this time? What time does it leave?
As for 'kerryseye' comments on players 'pushing for a place' .......we'll all get in no pushing lads!

Does anyone know what the position with Tom O Sullivan is ........ I am concerned by rumour that he is calling it a day....... There must be something in it if he hasn't resumed with the panel at this stage....I think he has a lot to offer in defence yet .

More of the same i would think however if Sheehan is picked a head of SOS after his woeful efforts against Tyrone i will be irate. Sean O Sullivan has more drive, confidence and pace than she will ever have. I feel for Brian he obviously hasn't recovered mentally for his AI horror show and its almost unfair to playin him at the mo. He simply has no pace ergo he will never make a top class inter county footballer. For this tricky northern mission i would go with the same 15

I'd rather see Sean on the wing and Darran inside myself... Much better balance to the attack I think, and I'm not sure Darran quite has the attributes for starting at wing-forward - he does his best work close to the goal. Fair enough, if he isn't starting but comes on as a sub then I might put him on the wing as his energy could be crucial in driving us forward from midfield as others tire.
If no players are ready to come back I'd start with the same team. Hopefully we get something close to our full panel available though as there are quite a few selection conundrums to be sorted!

The games against Derry and Galway are the ideal games for finding our fullback for the c'ship as there's hardly a bigger test for a fullback than Bradley and Meehan.

i would be thinking
G Reidy
P.Reidy,Aidan O M,Killian, Aidan O shea,Marc O Se,Bohane
Moran,Scanlon,
Darren,Declan,Paul
Gooch,Donaghy,T Walsh
can see rotation in goals for the league in goals, maybe kealy at some stage will get a game but i think reidy will start against derry.star will have to be in for sheehan if he is fit, just to let him get into the swing of things again !

just looking at the team that might take to the field in the future matches, will Darran even get a start in the championship this year? this team is a bit out there, but think Kennelly needs some football if he's to be an option this year, so to hell with it, fire him in there
D Murphy
Tomás Kennelly Young
Marc Aidan Griffin
Donaghy Scanlon
Moran Dec O' Sull Galvin
Gooch Tommy Darran
and don't be killling me over this team, its obviously one that won't line out, but if Jack gets out of bed some day and decides to see how this might go, it would still be interesting!!!!
tomás and Star are back training so maybe they'd need a good blow out to get the legs and lungs going

Aidan OShea showed a nice bit of cutting last Sunday on the ball,he seems to be a confident young lad.I wouldnt mind seeing him getting the next few games at full back.

He might be worth a few games there pope,if the yellow card rule stays were going to need multiple options everywhere.

Changes will have to be made for Derry match with U-21s playing the following Sat; apparently Walsh & Moran will not be risked and with Sean O'Sullivan injured that opens up the forward line and midfield- maybe Star , Paul O'Connor will start- O'Connor deserves a call up and could be looked at for the frees as well. Also heard that all the absentees except Darragh will be back in training this week including Tom O'Sullivan

Great news to hear that Dara o Shea is around for another year. Given that the man is pushing on in years, i was thinking maybe Jack should trying Dara full forward (in training or matches) for a few games to see how he gets on, the position might suit him since he may not have the legs for midfield anymore. I know this may sound like a crazy though to some people...but may be worth a try?

One target man only................ its an opinion thats held by a few people alright, dunno myself. think they could be used more effectively than last year. if they kept a distance apart and offered two distinct target inside it would be much harder for opposing teams to drop a man short to snuff them out as they couldn't cover both options, at times last year they were inside on top of each other. Cooper could drop off into the space in between them to feed off them- just an idea, but i know what people are saying if they feel its a waste having both inside.

i wonder how would donaghy do centre half forward and could drop back and be a 3rd midfielder as well? even though that would mean movin declan out of his best position and declan is flying there, maybe that wouldnt be worth it

Think as well we will see one of Walsh and Donaghy in the full forward line at any one time this year. There may be rotation to midfield.
Also believe Darragh should be used sparingly in midfield. He played in bursts last year and is very effective but dont know if 70 minutes will suit him all the time. Would he be able to adapt to a reduced role. How about starting him bring him off and on again ala Canavan or spells in the the full forward line.
Its bubbling nicely though now: Derry away is a tough test and will answer more questions about a lot of fellows
