WITH THE MEANEST DEFENCE AROUND THIS YEAR,A MIDFIELD AS GOOD AS ANY AND A FORWARD LINE THAT WHILE IT DOES DEPEND ALOT ON JAMES MASTERS THEY ARE OTHERS AROUND WHO ARE QUIET CAPABLE OF TROUBLING MOST DEFENCES ,CAN CORK WIN SAM THIS YEAR.?

Oh Dear God No, working in cork and just dont think i could cope if cork were to bring sam to Kent station this year!!!
But being honest i dont think they will make the all-ireland, they beat a poor kerry team, lets not get carried away now!!!

Is it just me or is this year lining up like 2002.? World Cup year. Cork soccer star walks out in a huff (George O'Callaghan 06 Roy Keane 02) Cork beat Kerry in a replay. Cork use Frank Murphy to get them off the hook (Lynch 06 and 6 subs 2002) Cork get over confident: look no further than this post Cork meet Kerry in the semi final..... The thing is we can't meet Armagh in the final in 2006
Also to win Cork might have to beat Fermanagh (what happened the last time??) Come through that it could be Armagh or Kerry in the semi final.
I'd say the bookies will be happy to take any amount of money you put on Cork bluesball.

1. Canty took a bad knock and looks very doubtful in the short term 2. Totally reliant on one forward. As we in Kerry know this is a bad idea. Where will other scores come from? 3. If they don't get 60-70% of ball at midfield then they will struggle 4. Bench is poor 5. Many of the team have little or now experience in Croker, vital against Armagh, Dubs etc

Bluesball, I think you may be bit ahead of yourself. Lets just see how they go in the next match. After all beating a poor Kerry side is no great achievement.

Owenabue they are big words from a county that haven't won an AI since 1973 and their previous one before that was 45!!!

Have to agree with owenabue , bluesball. Not sure why you consider the Cork defense to be the meanest around . Correct me if I'm wrong but Kerry had 26 shots at target ( albeit 17 wides) against Corks 25 shots at target. Gooch was finding space all day ,just couldn't put em over.

Look, ye all have said that Kerry didn’t play well, so therefore one can draw the conclusion that Cork winning wasn’t as good as it may look on paper. I know full well Kerry are capable of greater things, just hope Cork are as well! I’m trying to be realistic.

OWENABUE I WAS JUST ASKING THE OPINION OF THOSE FROM A COUNTY THAT CLAIM THEY KNOW ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT FOOTBALL AND I WOULD VALUE THEIR RESPONCE TO MY QUESTION ,BUT WITH IDIOTS LIKE WATCHAHOP ON THE SITEI JUST DONT KNOW,FOR YOUR BENEFIT WATCHAHOP CORK WERE THE LAST COUNTY TO RETAIN SAM IN 1990.

Ya but we'll be told that was with help from Kildare.

Blues ball no need to be so touchy!!
You never got a hop ball before did you??
I wasn't counting the "Cork" wins in 89 and 90. So the last time a team made up completely of Cork men won was in 73.
Or now I suppose you are going tell me ye would have won without the Kildare fellows!!
What happened the "famous" Cork sense of humour?
Jees if you want my "serious" opinion. I think Cork or Kerry will find it hard to win the AI this year based on the fact that they both might to over come Armagh. Cork were better than Kerry over the two games but they both would have to improve a lot before September.

Well the general opinion is that Cork haven’t a hope in hell. You can check www.orchardcounty.com to confirm this. Or 15/2 in bookies language. But that can be a good thing or a bad thing. I think it’s some where in the middle, Cork are not as bad as Kerry & co would like to think, but perhaps not as good as us Cork folk would like to believe.

Owenbue I think you might be right. I think if Cork give say Armagh as many scoring chances as they gave Kerry they would regret it. Fact was Kerry couldnt take the chances. If you gave the same chances to Clarke, McDonnell and McConville they would make you pay.
On the other hand Cork move the ball quickly and don't take it into the tackle thats a good style to play Armagh. Thats the way Fermanagh gave them trouble in 04 and 06.
If you think Kerry are at the same level as they were in AI final then Cork must ahve a great chance. I just think they are well off that pace.

Well one thing is certain, we've been as good as we've needed to be.
As for the Kildare fellas, it must be tough alright for ye to imagine living in a county that people would want to move to.
26 shots, 9 hits...there must be some amount of coconut stalls at Killarney races this week.

On a more serious note, the performances to date would not win Sam. But if the Dubs are being talked about as possible winners there is no reason why we shouldn't be. Armagh are vulnerable this year and if they are taken out of the picture it is wide open.

I go away for two hours and this turns up!
Ah lads, can ye not watch the house while I'm gone.
Simply put bluesball, I genuinely think ye have a great chance of winning the All Ireland, because not one team has improved as much as Cork this year. Nobody stands out as genuine winners yet, I think this is really like 2002 when there were a number teams in with a shout.

;DIsnt it great to have an end of all that arrogant "Big 3" talk! Tyrone - out! Kerry beaten by Cork. Dubs going well. Mayo in the long grass. Ah, this is a real summer. I think Cork always have the players to have a shot at Sam, but they just dont have the mental toughness to put it all together very often. Its 16 years since yis last did it, and it was 16 years before that. But theres many more contestants for big prizes now. Cork have not shown enough yet, and I dont think they will. I think that the Quarter Final will tell us alot more. It would be a great battle whoever it is. How long since Cork beat an Ulster team in Champo?

Armagh and Dublin are the frontrunners. Laois are the dark horses. Cork will need to up their game considerably to challenge Armagh or Dublin.. They hit a lot of bad wides against kerry..

How long since Cork beat an Ulster team in Champo? Beat Kerry last week and sure, as Billy said earlier in the year, they're the same as an Ulster team. Don't play Ulster teams that often in champo. (Can't imgaine why ) Beat Monaghan in the semi in 88. Beaten by Down in 94. Did the charitable thing and let Fermanagh win two years ago... I don't think we've spent the winter not being able to sleep because of nightmares of Mulligan waltzing through us to win a game we should have won either though, so I doubt our heads will be that much more messed up than the rest of ye!

cant see it happening, remember kerry were septic over the two games and light years removed from the level they reached in last years all-ireland final.

cork have absolutely no chance of winning sam. donegal or fermanagh will easily beat cork. as martin mchugh said in the star, cork have a lot of players who are of junior standard.

Slow though I am to defend Cork, that was a ridiculous statement by McHugh...junior standard my a***. Cork need to improve but so do all teams at this stage of the championship. Did Cork peak for the Munster championship and have they no room for improvement? I doubt that very much. As I said before the first game of the Munster final when I saw the Cork team, this is a good, footballing team. They should have won in Killarney and did, emphatically, in Cork. They'll improve. Will it be enough? who knows? but dismissing them as junior standard (or at least many of their players) shows a total mis-read by McHugh...nothing new there then.

I've a feeling that deep down Cork (and Morgan) will be satisfied with beating Kerry and winning Munster. I can see Donegal (presuming they end their Fermanagh hoodoo) taking them in the 1/4 finals.

I wouldn’t be so sure that just beating Kerry in the Munster final was Corks aim for the year. They got to the semi-final last year so I would presume that’s the least they expect to achieve this year again. At least I hope that’s what they are thinking!

it would be ironic that the last time the double was won in munster in1999 it was the footballers who were hot favourites and the hurlers crept in almost unnoticed to take liam back home but this year the reverse could happen. another coinsidence,in 1999 the hurlers had 7 championship deputants in the team, just like the footballers in 2006.
