Head over to sideline.ie to nominate your favourite game. Here's hoping they release the Kerry Armagh replay of 2000, I haven't seen that since the day after the match as my friend borrowed the tape!

The 2002 hogan cup semi final between Colaiste na sceilge and St. Jarleths of Tuam. Colaiste na sceilge had Declan O'Sullivan while Jarleths had Michael Meehan. One of the greatest games ever played at any level; (report is below)
GAA: Classic clash is a draw
Colaiste na Sceilge 0-20, St Jarleth's, Tuam 0-20 COAISTE na Sceilge and St Jarleths produced such a spellbiding contest in the All-Ireland Colleges Senior A Football semi-final at the Limerick Gaelic Grounds on Sunday that anything that would follow would be a damp squib and Meath and Kerry did not let the 6,851 spectators down.
This semi-final will live forever in the memory as one of the all-time great classics and after giving their all for ninety minutes in the heat, it was perhaps fitting that there should not be a victor.
President -elect Sean Kelly was in the stand to witness this absorbing encounter and it must have been refreshing for him to witness this after the events of Congress over the weekend.
Make no mistake about it, this meeting of Caherciveen ans Tuam did not disappoint and this encounter had everything that's good in the game, with the referee Brian White's only function being to start the game and record the scores.
It was a contest of 40 scores with 37 being from play, a penalty miss by Colaiste na Sceilge in the seventh minute that could have cost then dearly late on, some magnificent individual performances on both sides and great goalkeeping.
And at the end of ninety minutes, the sides could not be separated, having been level on 17 different occasions.
It was little wonder that the 30 players were given a standing ovation by the large crowd as they trooped off, some barely able to walk after giving their all.
Mixed
Colaiste na Sceilge will look back on this contest with mixed emotions because it was a game they were within seconds of winning in normal time but it was a also game that looked to have slipped away from them in extra time.
But enter super sub Alan O'Shea who injected a freshness into a tiring forward line and his last minute equaliser was well deserved. In fact O'Shea kicked over three fine points in the most unusual fashion and he is a joy to watch as he celebrates his scores long before the umpire raises his white flag.
Colaiste na Sceilge can also thank their outstanding goalkeeper Bryan Sheehan who performed heroics to his side in the game on numerous occasions.
He somehow kept out a punched effort at goal from Shane Moran in the 16th minute of the first half, having earlier denied the same player a certain goal with a magnificent save by getting his feet to the ball.
Early in the second half it looked like curtains for Colaiste na Sceilge when Cillain de Paor found the outstanding Michael Meehan in front of goal but Sheehan adavanced to block his effort from point-blank range.
Sheehan was quite magnificent and his long kickouts were also a major plus against the wind.
The teams were so similar in many ways with both having outstanding full forwards and it seems only a matter of time before both Declan O'Sullivan and Michael Meehan make it onto their respective senior teams.
It was only fitting that it was Meehan who forced the game into extra time because he did not deserve to be on a losing side. If Colaiste na Sceilge are to harbour any designs to win the replay, then Jack O'Connor will have to devise a plan to curtail his impact.
Jarleths were strong down the middle with centre back Darren Mullahy impossible to stop going forward though he lacks accuracy. Midfielders Niall Coleman, son of the great Mattie, and Damien Dunleavy were in control for long periods while centre forward David Warde is a class act, scoring six points from play and he was too quick for Gary Galvin.
Dominating
Colaiste na Sceilge's much-maligned full forward line came up trumps scoring thirteen points between then with Declan O'Sullivan dominating in the first half but a combination of a thigh injury and the moving of Alan Burke to shadow him meant a quieter than usual contribution from the outstanding O'Sullivan. Jerh O'Shea, who had not fired up to Sunday, had a fine game and kicked four superb points from play and his return to form could be crucial in the replay.
Joe Corridan was also lively with four points but was unlucky with his penalty that came back off the crossbar.
Adrian Breen was the best of the midfielders though his distribution must improve, while sub Alan O'Shea staked a strong claim to start the next day.
The Colaiste na Sceilge defence was under mighty pressure throughout and while individuals were beaten on the day, collecctively they backed each other up and some of their blocking was magnificent. They conceeded very few frees and Aidan O'Connor, Ciaran Grandfield and Padraig Sheehan refused to wilt as the game reached its frantic climax.
Only once ever was their more than a point between the sides and that was after 17 minutes when Colaiste na Sceilge raced 0-6 to 0-3 in front, thanks to points from Declan O'Sullivan (3), Kieran Cronin, Joe Corridan and Jerh O'Shea. They also missed a penalty in the seventh minute when Corridan drove his spot kick against the crossbar which was a body blow.
Superb Then Jarleths took over for a ten minute spell before half time and four unanswered points from Coleman, Dunleavy, Meehan and Warde saw them lead by a point before Corridan, from a free, and Micheal Curran after a superb pass by O'Sullivan gave Colaiste na Sceilige a slender half time lead 0-8 to 0-7.
The second half was end-to end-stuff and, with both keepers making super saves, it was real edge of the seat material. Jarleths began to kick the game away and looked as if they had paid the ultimate penalty when O'Sullivan placed Kieran Cronin who fired over a magnificant point to give the Kerry side a 0-12 to 0- 11 lead.
However Jarleths were not to be denied and when Colaiste na Sceilge left Meehan on his own in the final minute, Alan Flaherty found him with a free out on the right and he drilled over the equaliser to level matters for the ninth time.
It was then thirty minutes of extra time and the sides traded point for point with Jarleths leading 0-16 to 0-15 at the end of the first period. Alan O'Shea then knocked over two points as Jarleths continued to mainain a slender lead, kicking some bad wides as well.
Then, with a minute left, Meehan scored a point that gave his side a 0-20 to 0-19 lead and it looked like it would be heartbreak for na Sceilge. However, one final attack saw Ciaran Granfield find Alan O'Shea forty yards from goal and the Waterville super sub send over the dramatic equaliser amid joyous scenes.
It was some contest and the only downer is that the replay will now be played probably before a handful of spectators - these fine sides deserve a greater stage to show their wares.
Teams and scorers: Colaiste na Sceilge: B Sheehan, J M Clifford, W O'Sullivan, A O'Connor, P Sheehan, G Galvin, C Grandfield, A Breen, D Fenton, M Curran (0-2), K Cronin (0-3), B Murphy, J O'Shea (0-4), D O'Sullivan (0-4), J Corridan (0-4). Sub: A O'Shea (0-3) for J M Clifford.
St Jarleths College: D Dowd, P Costello, G Sice, G Aherne, A Flaherty (0- 1), D Mullahy (0-1), A Burke, N Coleman (0-1), D Dunleavy (0-1), S Moran (0-1), D Warde (0- 6), C de Paor, J Devane, M Meehan (0-7), J Kavanagh (0-1). Sub: A O'Hara (0-1) for Aherne.
Referee: B. White (Wexford).

Do you know of anybody who has a copy of that match island? I'd pay for postage and packaging to have a look at it for a weekend. I've heard about that match from so many people.

I think the company that produces the county final has it stacks, I remember Eamon Sweeny wrote an article about it a few days after and mentioned it. Either that or somebody else down there has it but they'll surely be able to track it down.

I'd like to see the 96 Munster Final again, I can re-call very little of the game for some reason (it was celebrated like no other munster final win in my case!). Corkery having the 14 yard free at the end with the entire Kerry team lined on front of the city end goal sticks in the mind the most.

I remember that match up in Cork ,Fitzy hit those two wonder frees before Killian Burns scored the last point. His celebration is still the best I've ever seen on any sports field! As far as I can remember buck 02 they only showed the 2nd half of that match but you might have to get onto rte to check that out for you, I think they can make tapes up for a price

Colaiste Vs Jarlaths: I agree fully with Island Exile that that was the best game I've ever seen.
If anyone has it taped Christy Riordan in Cahersiveen will. Try contacting him or Colaiste for a copy.

The best match I have seen recently was the Armagh -Tyrone drawn match in 2002! I have no doubt that most Kerry people will 'pooh pooh' it.In my opinion it compares favourably with the Down- Derry match of 1994.The standard of score taking and defending really sets this match apart!

The cork Tipp hurling matches in 89 (I think) were also unreal..... anyone remember them...Cork were 10 points up at 1/2 time in both the first game and the replay....I watched it with about 10 cork cousins in a caravan in Ballinskelligs and all the kerry crowd were cheering for Tipp!! Deadly laugh...Nicky English, John Hayes and Pat Fox were fantastic hurlers

The drawn game had Nickey scoring that kicked goal didn't it? And the replay was in Killarney? Great excitement and drama more than great hurling that I remember.

The classis GAA games are usually ones where Kerry lose such as the 1977 semi final, the 1982 final , the 2005 final so.....the 2000 games against Armagh and the two games against Galway are my favourites.
However.......... nothing compares to the 1991 Munster Final against Cork.......... John Cronins goal......... I would love to see it again............

Thanks to Mickmacks wizardry with DVDs and VHSs, I was able to watch the Armagh v Kerry replay from 2000.
It's funny looking back at it, but when we struggled for half an hour either side of half time, the exact same problems as last Sunday surfaced!!

Post by Mickmack on Jul 18, 2006 16:35:56 GMT
Could you elaborate stacks in relation to the same problems.......... how were they sorted............or was it simply a matter of a moment of genius by maurice fitz with his left footed pass to MFR?

I couldn't keep my eyes open MickMack so I turned it off on the 55 minute mark, to be picked up tonight.
But from 15 minutes to 55 minutes - we were over elaborating on the half forward line, not getting enough fast ball into the forward three. Our forward three had some awful wides, including Johnny Crowley, Dara O'Cinnaide and one by Mike Frank. Noel Kennelly had three rotten wides form out on the wing, Denis O'Dwyer was taken off because he was non existant. Free taking was dodgy too.
For the back 7, all working hard, picking up yellow cards, running straight through midfield with the ball but not making much of it when they got there etc!
The only difference was Darragh O'Se won an amount of ball around the middle but we didn't do a whole pile with it.
As an aside, McGeeney was going down injured early even back then and you could see the formation of the sweeper defence happening in front of your eyes.
