Personally I believe the game should have been at a neutral venue but BOTH teams agreed to the toss and all I've been hearing since is an excuse-in-advance from the Longford camp. Take these comments from the Longford manager for instance... UNHAPPY TRAVELLING “The one thing we are unhappy about is that we have to travel nearly 200 miles to Killarney for the game and that has taken a lot of good away from the draw. “I don’t know how the GAA officials come up with these home and away ideas because a neutral venue would have been the sensible option in a case like this. “Instead we have to travel 200 miles to the home of football to take on one of the top football counties at the moment. The GAA have made life very difficult for us with this situation,” Dempsey said. “We are a county trying to get our head above water in the world of football and here we are now hoping that Kerry don’t shove our head back under the water. “The GAA need a long hard look at this because they are sending a division two side all the way down to the lion’s den in Kerry" This coming from a side that will probably have more support in Killarney

you can take his point though. it should be in limerick or thurles or somewhere. But on the other hand I bet hewouldn't be complaining if he had won the toss. but all in all he maks a fair point.

It was a fair toss of a coin. They shouldn't have agreed to it if they don't want to accept the result.

From what i can gather all venues were decided by the toss of a coin. That was decided upon by central council. All the other games are on a home ground for one team or another

A neutral venue like Limerick/Thurles would be a joke..there would be no atmosphere....no crowd and no craic.....Luke Dempsey nevers seems to stop complaining! They WERE offered a neutral venue and decided to chance their arms with the 50/50 bet

they had a 50/50 chance with the toss?? Do you think Jack would be in the media complaining if we had to go to Longford after loosing the toss?? I think not!! They would quiet simply knuckle down to the task in hand and get on with it!

Big ask for Longford to beat Kerry in Pearse Park but virtually no chance in Killarney. The interesting thing for me on this is if Kerry had been drawn away to Donegal or Fermanagh - how many fans would have travelled to those games?

Longford complain about having to travel 200 miles to a game. Well call me a flying monkey Luke, but you don't see Kerry complaining about travelling three times a year to Dublin in two months for quarter finals, semis and finals over the past ten years!
Honestly, there are better ways of deflecting attention away from the team Luke.....poor PR spin there.

I wonder should the county board have been better offering Tralee as the home venue for this game. The chances are there will be less than 10,000 there anyway and the atmosphere would be way better. Not having a go at Fitzgerald Stadium but when theres hardly anyone there you can hear a pin drop.

Id say there will be more than 10000. Longford will bring 5000 (rte news) and there seems to be a bit of excitement around kerry for this one. Although the forecast is bad for saturday.

Lads, I know what ye are saying that ye have been travelling around for years and it would be no harm for Longford to travel to Killarney. But surely the fairest thing would have been a neutral venue? But the people up in Croke Park know best. How else could you explain why they have scheduled the Cork Football game the day before the Hurling? Taking into account it’s the August weekend and beds in Dublin would be at a premium. But shur, Cork don’t get too many days in Dublin. So I tell you what, if ye are there on the Saturday, ye can shout for Cork, as I’d say 5,000 would be as many of us that will be there.

Owenbue: Rare enough but I agree with Cork on this one. Cork games shouldn't be over 2 days. Not fair on supporters HQ dont care that its a bank holiday weekend do they? I see they facilitated the Dubs by putting them on their own. I don't think the supporters pockets come high up on the list of priorities when matches are fixed.
As for shouting for Kerry fellows shouting for Cork footballers and vice versa: I'd say you would have the middle east sorted out a lot quicker!!
Besides I'd say the Longford supporters branch in COrk was never bigger than it is right now!
Re game neutral venue would be the fairest and appartently Kerry offered that. Longford decided to try their luck with a coin toss: you can't have it every way!!

Before they announced the venues they had said that they would be tossing a coin. But I think in fairness to every supporter and county is should have been neutral venues for all qualifies.
If you think about the Cork situation, €75 alone for match tickets and B&B and train or petrol of top of that. You couldn’t see to many families being able to go.
I could accept it if for example they didn’t want football and hurling on the same day. But see how they have put the Mayo game on the same day as the Kilkenny Clare game. The crowd over on the Killkennycats website aren’t too pleased to being subjected to torture of bogball, but that’s a debate for another day.
Ah some times we do shout for ye, just not very loudly, for health and safety reasons of course!

The problem with Neutral venues is that there is a significant reduction in crowd. For example if Kerry/Longford was played in Thurl we would have about 6-8 thousand at the game, If Pearse park in Longford there would be 17,000 capacity, Killarney I would expect 17,000 plus.If the Game was on Sunday and the weather was fine then the game would easily break the 20,000. In 2002 we played Wicklow and Fermanagh at Neutral venues and there was no more than 4,000 at each game. I know because I was there
Also I think the quarter finals should be brought out of Croke park to the provincial venues. It is very costly to goto rip off Dublin. Another problem after match's in Dublin is that most people are in a rush to get out so there is a hugh lack of atsmphore, Killarney is great before and after a match.

There should have been no coin-toss. Longford should have got the home tie quite simply. Imagine if Westmeath hurlers were made travel to Kilkenny.

Ive always said it from the start. The winners of each province should get home advantage in the 1/4 finals. Think about when dublin and kerry met. Imagine the old rivals playing championship in killarney. OK kerry would prob have to play armagh in crossmaglen this year but it would be something new. Twoud be some craic up there.

When the qualifiers concept was being introduced, Kerry (Tony o keeffe) argued at congress that the provincial winners should get a "home" quarter final but this proposal was defeated.
