Kerry have had a certain amount of success with our minor teams since 2001 as we have been in every AI semi since then. We have not won the title since 1994 but that is another conversation. It then appears that here in Kerry we lose many of those players when it comes to developing an U21 team. Results over the past 3 or 4 years have proven this. We have not won a Munster title since 2001.
If we take a look at the potential U21 team for next year we should be very serious contenders for an AI Title. The 2004 minor team will still be there(AI Finalists), 2005 minor team AI semi finalists and 2006 minor team (AI Semi finalists at least maybe even more)
A successful U21 team will lead to success at senior level.
Where are we going wrong in Kerry ? Is it neglect ? I know a number of players go away to College/Working/Travel/OTBAT/ etc
Folks any thoughts and potential solutions

i think they should be using the junior championship more also to bridge the gap between minor and u21.

Shane Enright does not have the ball skills to be training with the seniors next year in my view!
Il give a go at the team for next year!
Kealy(Kilcummin) Reidy(Scartaglin) Quinn(Crokes) Young(Renard) Doyle(Churchill) C.Kelliher(Milltown Castlemaine) Shane Doolan(Crokes) Brennan(Desmonds) A.O'Sullivan(Tuosist) or T.Walshe(Rahillys) Darren O'Sull(Glenbeigh) Kenneally(Crokes) Curran(Waterville) Leary(Crokes) P.O'Connor(Kenmare) John Buckley(Currow).
Danny O'Connor,Shane enright,David Moran etc

would his ball skills not improve if he was training with them?! Shane wont be too far off that team next year or Eddie Mangan when he gets back playing.

Cant see Brennan from Desmonds being anywhere near the team next year. T Walsh would be a better bet and you couldnt play the two together as their two similar and work rate is neither of their strongest points.

Brennan can be good but in games when it really matters, he is not to the fore as one would expect from a player of his supposed ability. J Buckley from Currow definately deserves to be training with the Kerry seniors, the way he has come back from that injury, fair credit due to the man!

I feel it is my duty to mention this seeing as Fat Tom isn't around: No mention above of Stam. He was on and off the team last year he will surely be on in 07.

I actually forgot about him but the still wouldn't change any of the six forwards i have on,Darran, kennelly,P Curran,K oLeary, P O Connor and John Buckley.Maybe only for Kennelly. But sure who knows what O Dwyer will do.He'll spring a few surprises like last year where he messed around a lot of talented players like Reidy by playing him way out of position at midfield, hope im wrong and he gives best 15 the chance they deserve.

If its bad conversion in county football its even worse at club level. Im sure you all know a few who have emigrated, been distracted by beer, woman, work, etc. There isnt too many games either at under 21 level and only the best players from the three years play, the guy who was just making the team before, gets left on the bench now and loses interest. Maybe its a way of culling these lesser players before they get to senior level and the seniors ending up with a team of about 50 lads. Most B teams dont really satisfy a good standard of football and managers dont pick from them unless its young players. The result is a big turnout for b home games and away games lacking numbers. At least with the county players they will be taken care of by the club and if they keep playing well the county manager will hear about them.

My opinion is that there is too much football going on and a lot of them get sick of it. When u're minor u can have Kerry Minors, Kerry Tec's, + u're Club football along with facing the leaving cert. Then after the minor most of the players will have Kerry U-21's. University teams + the clubs along with uni exams.
