what grounds are there for conviencing ye all that armagh are such an invincible team. They struggled to win a moderate ulster championship this year. i allways think of mike sheehys words,"we are starting to doubth ourselves". Have ye forgotten the quarter finals in '04. I think we are giving them too much respect. the general public concenus is that armagh will beat kerry on saturday, there's no way i would put the house on that asertion to be honest. While i totally respect Armagh and realise why Kerry are the underdogs (first in a long while), what is to fear in these results??? 14/05/2006 Armagh 0-10 - 0-10 Monaghan (FT) 20/05/2006 Monaghan 0-10 - 1-13 Armagh (FT) 11/06/2006 Armagh 0-11 - 2-05 Fermanagh (FT) 25/06/2006 Armagh 0-16 - 1-08 Fermanagh (FT) 09/07/2006 Donegal 0-09 - 1-09 Armagh (FT) . They beat a Donegal team that i would expect Longford to really trouble exactly, were giving them far too much respect and we are paying too much attention to their game plan. we have spent the last 3 years trying to imulate their game plan instead of developing our own. we got an indication of what it could be like in the first 20 minutes v longford and the first 15 minutes v tyrone last year. we need to believe in ourselves our footballers and our footballing principles and cut lose.

I must admit I have not been as physched for a game in a long time.... I reckon we'll have the beating of them if we are there there abouts at half time. Back Kerry to win by 4-6 points...great price (5/2 I think)

We know that Kerry have problems and going thru a transition period ........
What w dont really know is how good are armagh........i felt they were the better team in the semi final last year v tyrone.......... that performnce would beat kerry i feel. A year is a lot on a football team with a lot of mileage up....... to me it comes down to where armagh are compared to 2005.
We wont know till saturday.............

???That's the beautiful prospect of this game, nobody has a clue how either team will play, as neither has shown near their potential full hand yet. Armagh have looked more solid, more durable, dependable. Kerry look to be hoping more that they will turn it on. If neither side plays much better than they have so far, then its hard to see Armagh beat, with the belief & determination they seem to have. But if Kerry could extract even a draw out of it, that may give them the time & impetus to come good. There's many questions to be answered. It's strange to think that in 3 days time either this message board or the Armagh one will be somehow a quieter place for the rest of the year........

The peoples choice of team is complete with the possible exception of Eamonn Fitzmaurice.
This is the team that the people of Kerry have been talking about since the latter stages of the Allianz Football League, yet it is now that Jack starts it.
So you can look at it two ways:
1) Jack has listened to the people of Kerry, a dangerous thing for any manager to do in any job in sport.
or
2) Jack has finally come across the best team Kerry can field, three months after the ordinary fans did, in which case, what was he doing for the last three months?
Either way, he's picked a team that the majority of Kerry people will be happy with, with the possible exception of Moynihan / Fitzmaurice.
The nerves are up.
Ps, I'm not having a pop at Jack in the way that most people will read this. He has done a great job with the talent available. But, well, read above.

Happy to see Sean Sullivan get a start.. As expected, Jack saw moving Seamus as too much of a risk to the balance of the team. That said Seamus performed against Cork when a lot of others didn't, so on balance I am fully behind the selection. Oh the excitement is building....

As long as we have a big un at 14 I am happy.....
I feel a bit sorry for Darren O Sullivan........... part from that........... happy with it. Best wishes to Kerry. Hope its a game to remember.

the team is starting to take on a settled look about it now with a few potentially goods subs to spring on a given day.A settled team is always a good sign. if we can get out of croker without losing on saturday i think we can win the tie.

Hmm, no Bryan Sheehan, so who will be taking the free from longer range. He seemed to be the only one taking frees from the ground at the final session tonight. Suppose Colm and MFR will share duties. Would like to see them punished when they commit their fouls outside the scoring zones.

having just read this topic from start to finish,I was wondering is there any significance in the many varying opinions as to what Kerry's team should be?I can't imagine the same debate taking place in Armagh, Dublin,Mayo or any of the other counties left in the championship!Surely the speculation wasn't as rife in years gone by!!!!!!!!

HERES A BIT OF POETRY IN HONOR OF SATURDAYS GAME
The waiting is over the time it has come to head to croke park for a day in the sun We need to show passion; an iron will above all else we need to show skill The team it is settled once and for all All that is left is to come to play ball The backline played poor of that theres no doubt But in croke park they'll be strong solid and stout Seamus is old but as cute as fox star will catch anything around armaghs box Cooper'll be back and back with a bang Now that kerry are bck with a plan Kerry to win it by the bare three or four Headlines will scream 'Orchard no more'

One final word from my side of the pond and one to get you all thinking tomorrow.
In 1986, Kerry's greatest moments came to a fitting end in Croke Park, winning our second three in a row inside of ten years and our 8th All Ireland in 11 years.
We weren't seen in Championship action again in Croke Park until 1991 when Down put us to a rusty '60's style sword.
We re-emerged in 1996, blinked, dusted down the jersey and went from there.
1996 - 2006
Games played in Croke Park: 23 Games won in Croke Park: 15 Games drawn in Croke Park: 2 Games lost in Croke Park: 6 Years when Kerry didn't appear in Croke Park: 1999. Counties beaten: Cavan, Laois, Down, Mayo, Armagh, Galway, Cork, Roscommon, Dublin, Derry. Counties who beat Kerry: Mayo, Kildare, Meath, Armagh, Tyrone.
On Sunday, Kerry play their 22nd game in 11 years in Croke Park since the break through. That is some record for an eleven year period, and is as good as any if you consider that apart from 2000, Kerry have never played more than three games a year there. And come to think of it oddly enough, it'll be the first Kerry championship game played in Croke Park I've missed since 1991.
That is an incredible run by any Kerry team, and just something I thought worth mentioning.

Well we cannot complain against that team. Its set up to play football they we like it. With all the fuss about Donaghy, maybe the Gooch will go about his business unnoticed. Im delighted for Sean O' Sullivan. The speed of our half forward line is impressive. Im expecting big things from Dara and Seamus. could be their last time in croke park. They have a couple of wrongs to right, and would expect them to be unaturally fired to set the record straight against the northern teams. Roll on saturday

I think the team is the best one we have in the circumstances. Its set up to play football. No matter what team we have we need to move the ball quickly and not get caught in possesion. We have the full forward line that will need the early ball anyway. Expect Armagh to try and break it from Star but MFR and the Gooch need to be alive to the breaks a break from Francie is as useful as a break from Star.
Think Darren was unlucky the last day to be taken off when he was but he could make a big impact when he comes on.
I make it 10 of the team that started against Armagh in 2002 start on Saturday is that right?
Good luck to Kerry its there if they want it enough. It might not be there next year.

Re the team.... its the team I'd have picked. Sean deserves his chance. I've been impressed by him the couple of times he's come on the field this year. Christ the butterflies are starting to rumble now.

Just a quick point, has Declan O'Sullivans slump anything to do with him being Captain. Is there too much pressure on him to LEAD the team. Is he trying TOO hard to lead by example!

My favourite, all irelands aside, moment in there was runnign down teh steps of teh hogan when Kerry had just beaten Cavan in the semi in 97. knowing that we were in the final again after 11 years was like being on ecxtasy

I am hoping the way that the team is picked is an indication that Kerry intend playing there own way against them. The selection of Sean Sullivan is a sign that we have moved on from the 'working half forwards', 'mass defence' bullsh*t that was around before last years final. I came out of Croker last year thinking that we we had tried to play Kerry football we would have won hands down instead of trying to break tackles, forwards playing as backs etc.
I just have a nagging feeling that this change has come too late. A few have posted about a settled team. I have never seen a more unsettled kerry team in all my years and it may just work against us. Then again we have the element of surprise as we ouselves don't know how it will work!
Scream on the team!
