I only found out today that Charlie Foley (of the Killarney pub and uncle to the Spillanes of Templenoe, whose mother was a Lyne of Cleeney) was a Kerry mascot during the early fifties. I know Ogie was a mascot and Colm Cooper was Crokes mascot in 1992, but it made me curious. Would anyone know of any others who were mascots leading Kerry onto the field? They don't have to be famous or anything, I am just curious.

The book is a great read Jimmy, even found a relation of mine in the team picture of 1941!

I hope the sales go well for you Jimmy,
Is there much on the hurling side of things included in the book?? If I am not mistaken members of your family are involved in playing hurling and promoting hurling in killarney

All of the family played hurling (mostly junior level). My brother Brian still plays for Crokes and won an All Ireland U21 in 1998 (by far and away our greatest claim to fame!). The hurling county championships and All Ireland successes (plus the few in Munster) are in the book, plus the occasional interesting snippet, e.g. Tom Collins playing three Munster Finals in a day. I would have included intercounty hurling year by year but unfortunately the records are incredibly patchy.

The Tom Collins story is a special story. Hard to believe but he was a kilmoyley man and he played football with kerry at all levels including senior and of course hurling as well. Kilmoyley had some good footballers in the 1950s and 1960s and fielded football teams back then. players such as Declan Lovett, Sean Lovett, Tom and John Collins who all played with kerry in football. back then kilmoyley men were playing football and hurling with kerry and killarney men such as Johnny Culloty were starring with the kerry hurlers too. not much chance of that happening now!!!! your brother is one of the best killarney hurlers of recent times. he would be on any of the senior club teams in north kerry. All of the family played hurling (mostly junior level). My brother Brian still plays for Crokes and won an All Ireland U21 in 1998 (by far and away our greatest claim to fame!).
