Hi folks, Jimmy (Himself) apologises for not replying back with any updates on the book as he's unfortunately been taken ill lately and is currently in abode in the I.C.U. of Tralee General. He will hopefully be fine for the book launch which AFAIK is on November 5th in the Malton Hotel in Killarney.
Its really going to gall him to be within a few hundred yards of the two big games tomorrow and not be able to go but we all wish him a speedy recovery and best wishes with the publication.

We should get someone to bring Sam up to visit him, that could help with his recovery.......any possibility? Wishing Jimmy good health and a quick recovery

Get well soon Jummy Himself. Out here in NY and looking forward to a copy of your book. Hopefully, I will get a copy of your book via a relative or friend making the trans Atlantic trip. Or as you stated in an earlier post, we may be able to purchase a copy directly from you. When you are feeling better please send on the details. Ciarrai Abu...

Hi folks, The official launch of Jimmy's book "Forged in Green & Gold" will be in the Gleneagle Hotel's Mangerton Suite on Saturday November 7th, at 7:30pm.
Hopefully Jimmy will be well enough to attend.
He jokingly said earlier that pulling a major sickie would be up there in deviousness with Mickey Harte, Tadhg Kennelly and Donal Og in courting controversy to promote their book ;-)
More info later

Hi everybody. Back in action again (well, back at home anyway, but it looks like I'm on a walking stick for a while). Sorry about not doing any posting or updating. A big thanks to Crokerman for passing on the reason I haven't been doing anything the past week or two, and for the copies of the county semi-finals. Like the man said, I would have loved to have seen them, but being able to watch the highlights through the forum was great. A big thanks to everybody for their best wishes - quite honestly, a kind word at a time like that means a huge amount. Can't praise Tralee General highly enough either. Thanks again to everybody. Book launch is going ahead and I will be there (might be a small bit more like poetry reading than a hooley at the moment!) The book is at the binders at the moment - I haven't actually seen a physical copy myself yet. The printers (KC Print in Killarney) have been great. Took care of everything, inclusing things that weren't their responsibility at all, such as translating the ISBN into a graphic barcode. When trouble comes upon you, you find out how good people are, and I have to say that Kerry people are great. Thanks again to everybody

The books have been delivered and everything is set up for the launch this Saturday night in the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney. Personally I am very happy with it - I'm not pretending that it's Shakespeare, but it's as good as I am capable of. I will try to get a picture of the front cover posted up here shortly. Not quite in the best of health yet - I am only out on weekend release (hospital, not prison) so I won't be posting too much on this thread over the next week.
"Forged in Green and Gold: 125 Years of Kerry GAA" by Jimmy O'Sullivan Darcy is available from
Jimmy O'Sullivan Darcy, Upper Lissivigeen, Killarney, Co. Kerry
Email: jimmyosdarcy@gmail.com
Cost E15 + post and packaging.
Thanks again

Strange question: can I send the money to you by bank transfer as well since I can only get pounds out of the ATM here.

Really looking forward to this book. I love facts and figures and to have this combined with Jimmy's obvious love of Kerry GAA will make facinating reading.
I have spoken to Jimmy on a few occasions when he was covering Div 4 of the County League and it was always a pleasure to discuss GAA matters with him.
A speedy recovery to you Jimmy, hope all goes well at your launch.

Back in action!
Can't thank Murhur enough for the website - he put it together for me with no help and no charge. Hugely appreciated, it looks great.
Sending email and text invites to the launch this morning. Everybody is welcome, I am hoping it will be a night of caint and craic. Jerome Conway has agreed to say a few words - Jerome has been incredibly supportive of this all through - and he will be bringing Sam Maguire, while Weeshie will be MC for the night.
General reaction to the book has been very positive (mind you, its mostly friends and family who have seen it so far. Now that I think about it, they were hardly going to say "Jaysus, Jimmy, that's kind of crap, isn't it?" but its a great feeling. A lot of people have complimented it visually - I have to say that was nothing to do with me, that is thanks to photographers Mike Brosnan, Tommy O'Regan, and Donie Whitty O'Sullivan and especially graphic designer Sheila Carroll, who I really think did an amazing job.
There is quite a lot of Kerry GAA history floating around at the moment. Have to compliment Joe O'Mahony and Kerry Radio on their Tuesday night programmes on the 36 All Ireland wins by Kerry - fascinating stuff and really well put together. Looking forward to the literary exhibition in the Tralee Library, have heard great stuff about it. A lot of old programmes and the like. As ye can imagine, I love looking through that kind of thing.
Kind of hoping there won't be too many surprises though, given that I go through Kerry's All Ireland campaigns in my book!

Best of luck with the book launch on Saturday. I heard the book cited on Radio Kerry's The Greatest Day regarding Kerry getting their Green & Gold colours from Kilrossanty GAA Club in County Waterford.
Is this fact as I hadn't heard it anywhere before??

Got me book during the week, very impressed.
Did anyone else notice something funny about the photos of the Kerry teams of 1939 & 1941? A few people at the back seem to have been photoshopped in!

I absolutely guarantee that if I was that good with photoshop, posterity would be recording Jimmy O'Sullivan Darcy in the middle of an awful lot of those teams!

Actually, I checked the 1941 photo. The man in the middle in the back row has a massive head, in fairness!

You see those photos in pubs all over Kerry but I'd never looked at them too closely. Don't worry, I didn't mean to imply that you were doctoring the photos! Congrats again, I'm enjoying the book very much.
