Laois have made one change to their side for Sunday's quarter-final clash against Mayo at Croke Park with midfielder Noel Garvan a surprise selection at full forward. He was replaced in the first-half during the qualifier with Offaly by Padraig Clancy who was returning from injury. However, Garvan will wear the number 14 jersey this weekend for the first time with Ian Fitzgerald moving to the bench.

You know something, it's exactly what they need. The only problem really is that Donaghy was in great form all year before the switch, whereas Garvan is not in the best footballing fettle of his career, and certainly nowhere near the early stages of the 2005 campaign until he came up against Armagh.

In all fairness, it was Micko's tactic in the first place...anyone remember the Bomber?

some of the traditional approaches to the game returing???
big ball winners at full forward & plenty of superb fielding at midfield too in this years championship e.g. Daragh, Nicholas Murphy & Ciaran Whelan

Poor Micky Harte must be in a terrible state, after spending the last 4 years trying to destroy the traditional game only to see in 2006 Kerry, Dublin Laois & co destroying all his hard work!

What what about Armagh "destroying his hard work" they never kick the ball long do they? And Laois fist pass a lot, and dublin's forwards were not exactly up to much against westmeath. Tyrone kick the ball plenty (see goal in last years final, dont want to go on about it). So what if we dont hoof it into a big bomber style full-forward all the time (which are generally 50/50 balls except with someone huge like donaghy), McGuigan etc can kick in nice accurate passes to mulligan/o'neill.

Have you ever seen Armagh play - series of short hand passes followed by long diagonal kick into powerful full forwards. I don't think their whole game plan is traditional, but they certainly kick more long ball than most other teams.

yeah i agree-just saying about how Tyrone can cope with Armagh kicking ball in McDonnell and Clarke so it's not like Harte would be in a "terrible state."

Yeah but that was after the laois defeat and not because of the use of donaghy/garvin at full-forward "destroying all his hard work."
