I see they're in Division 1 of the County League this year and had a good win over KOR at the weekend.

Anyone have an idea of whos in their at the moment or wat players would be worth a shot in their this year.I suppose a lot of the panel will be made up of the main Corn Ui Mhuiri teams.

See the last few years have been dominated by players playing in corn ui mhuiri but from what ive heard there were over 100 players given trials before and after christmas so im pretty sure theyve looked at everyone they want at this stage..when is first round on?

From what I have seen some of the young men mentioned in the previous posts are involved in the panel that seems to be taking shape. A lot of work is done and everyone that is even close to the mark has been given a fair chance. Some fine big strong talented footballers and they will be well prepared. We will have to see them in action before we can make a judgment on their chances this year. The colleges competitions are a slight disruption but the better players are gaining in confidence and begining to stand out more. I would'nt know them all by name but here are some that I have identified as the more likely looking - in my opinion: Wren - Miltown. Mangan - Miltown. O'Neill - Stacks. Bastible - Stacks. McNamara - Stacks. Thompson- St. Rd. Gary O'Leary - Kilcummin. Chris O'Leary -Kilcummin. Tom Moriarty -Legion. Sean Keane -Legion. Pat. Lucey - Legion. Morley - Templenoe. McCarthy - Kenmare. Gavin O'Grady- Glenbeigh Pat. Kilkenny - Glenbeigh. Geo. Dwant - Dingle. (no sure of name) Jeff. Donoghue - Glenflesk. Colm Galvin - Lispole. Tom Kavanagh - Lispole. Mark Reen - Rathmore. Barry O'Dwyer - Waterville. James Walshe - Knocknagoshal. Enna O'Connor - Foilmore. -- Culhane - Ballylongford. -- Kiely - Brosna. Damien Somers - St. Senans. Conor Cox - Listowel. Thomas Hickey - Desmonds. Jason Hickson - Annascaul Dan Daly - St. Marys. -- Horgan - St. Marys (Keeper) Patrick McCarthy - Rathmore (Keeper)
I'm not suggesting that this is the panel but most of the first team will come from these.

I suggested last year that the Kerry Minor thread should only be open in the week or so before the first round of the Munster Championship.
The Minor thread has seen some crazy comments since this forum was set up. Its not fair on players involved to be either "the next gooch" or the "best midfielder I have ever seen" or that he should be nowhere near the panel "cos I beat him in a schools game or minor league game and I was injured" or "hes only near the panel cos his father works with Pat O Driscoll" etc etc.
I'm not for censorship but I dont think this thread can be controlled when it is left open indefinately.

Great post mandad. You cast your net far and wide and that's a decent panel. I am told that the minors are flying right now, Pat has them flying fit. I'm not sure that we have the muscle up front but we will certainly rattle Croke Park. Ciaran Keating from Skellig is another player worth a look, so is Ian McCarthy of Na Gaeil and maybe David Moynihan (I know his dad is a selector but he is also a very honest man. David is worth a look on merit.) They are all first year minor, though. With respect to Niall Sheehy, a decent footballer and a very decent lad as well, I think it's a little early to flag him.

One of the things that always strikes me about the minors is the amount of them that played Kennedy Cup (U13 soccer) for Kerry. Fionn and Cillian Fitzgerald, Barry John and Tommy Walsh, BJ Keane, Paudge O'Connor, Brian Kelly, Killian Young, Mike Stam...
Unfortunately I have no idea who played Kennedy Cup for Kerry four years ago. I might try to dig it out.

Never knew Tommy even played soccer or Killian Young for that matter

You could find a lot more players that did play kennedy cup. Kealy, Kieran O' Leary, Mike Moloney and Paul O' Connor played aswel. I'm not sure Tommy Walsh played Kennedy Cup but Barry John did and was a stand out player. Scored a few goals for Ireland Underage aswel.

Id like to inform Mandad that the Bastible he mentions in his Minor panal is George Bastible who plays for John Mitchels and not the Rock as his post portrays.

Actually George does play for the rock but he is also overage for the minors!. i think it is his brother lawrence who you are refering to who does play for john mitchels

Alan o donoghue, jamie doolan, billy dennehy, cian tobin, andrew kenneally, daithi casey all playd kennedy cup aswel. Tommy never played kennedy cup he never played too much soccer at all. You woul have to think Sean McCarthy,David Culhane,James Walsh,Shaun Keane,Mark Reen and Eanna O'Connor will all be close to certainties!

Apologies, I thought that Tommy had played as well. I was just highlighting the fact that so many of the county's top U13 soccer players subsequently go on to become the top football players later on. Killian Young actually played for Killarney Athletic (there was no South Kerry team at the time) and won a U14 All Ireland alongside Diarmuid Carroll and Mike Stam O'Donoghue.

Some serious panel there this year.... there is currently 40 training but that is getting cut to 30 next week. Players to watch out for would be david culhane, andrew thompson, pat kilkenny, jason hickson, damien somers, shaun keane, james walsh, conor cox and mark reen. I dont envy pat having to pick a panel of 30 he has some competition there and thankfully quality....
