My thoughts on areas to work on for AI over coming weeks.
- Full back line still look a little shaky..marking needs to be tighter and getting in front of man a little more. - Half Back line - looking good - Midfield - strtagey worked well yesterday.. Dara knew when to field and when to break and the positioning of Kerry for breaking ball was excellent esp Galvin. More of the same but probably won't get the freedom in final. - Half forward line - good performance, some Anger management therapy for Galvin although I think he was provoked a little yesterday. Full forward - Distribution yesterday into full forward line was poor, some of the balls into Donaghy he had no right to win and he did well. MFR and Gouch going in right direction and need to vary ball and i think Donaghy needs to stay right in front of goal and the ball in needs to be more accurate.
If we can get the above right (play with the intensity we showed against Armagh) and not slip back in any other areas we will be hard to beat.

I feel Declan O'Sulivan has made a good case to be included in teh final. He won good ball, ran with purpose at the Cork defence and seemes to give a better overall contribution in the time he was on than Eoin Brosnan did.

Leave it alone. You can always bring these guys on if its not working instead of dropping a guy ruining his confidence and then maybe having to bring him on if the other guy dont work. If it not broken dont fix it. Ill probably get shot down for saying that again but its more true now than ever. Kerry havent played with as much confidence in a long time so just leave them play. I know Bros didnt have his best day but maybe he bang another goal in the final. Dont change the team.

It will be a close call for DOS but i reckon Brosnan should hold his place especially if our 11 is facing cullen as i am still to be convinced about cullen going backwards defending as all centre backs should. Without wishing to open old wounds. This will be in all probability Jacks last game in charge of Kerry (he is on the record with that). He has the opportunity to give his clubmate, a man he has trained at school and county level and played with for the club, the opportunity to bring the cup down to Dromid on Monday 18th September as Kerry captain.
Would you be tempted to put your neck out for him if you were in his shoes?? Honestly?
Its not as if there is much between DOS and Brosnan on current form.......

It may appear a bit harsh on Declan, but it's not as if he hasn't had his chances. He captained the team last year as well in an AIF and, as we all know, it didn't go our way. The team have been performing better with him as a sub (maybe not because of his being a sub but certainly we have been a better unit since the reshuffle). The starting 15 are functioning well as a unit and if a change were to be made as a result of personal loyalty it could have serious repercussions for the morale of the panel.
That being said, if Declan proves over the next 4 weeks that he has more to contribute than one of the current 15, I wouldn't like to see him overlooked because of the relationship...that wouldn't be fair either.
Let's hope that we have a fully fit panel and the lads who have been starting continue to produce the form that saw them selected in the first place - here's hoping the team picks itself!

You're right original. It'll all be down to how they perform in training over the next few weeks. He put Crowley in in 2004 on the back of great performances in training and it worked a treat. I don't think the fact that they are clubmates, or that declan is the team captain will come into it at all. It'll be whichever of them is firing in training that will get the nod.

I'm a South KErry man, and I think Brosnan must start the final. He underperformed yesterday by a long way, but the team is gelling nicely (and Brosnan has 4 goals in our previous 2 games). He's a real Jekyl and Hyde player - and its a matter of making him click on the the day of the final. Our subs a very very effective as they are.
Galvin is playing well but really needs to tone it down a bit when off the ball.
Defence improved drastically yesterday but still needs to tighten up.

Team should be left as is. The only change I would make is positional. Move Mahoney back and Marc to the wing. He is an attacker and I feel its his best position

I had a look at the Armagh game again over the weekend. Was it three times Brosnan was back on the Kerry full back line defending!! I'd have strung Declan up for that but gave Eoin great praise......

Brosnan was injured yesterday and was a major doubt all week. Groin injury AFAIK but has had in on ice all week and had two pain killing injections before the match (I sat next to a Crokes lady for the match). At the moment he may even be a doubt for the final. Still had a decent game and made several of his lung busting 40 yard runs. Still it was only when he went off the Spillane had any impact on the game.

i definatly would't make any changes!! If brosnan had a 1 slightly poor performance due 2an injury there's no way he sould be dropped!! He was brillant in the 2previous games and once he's match fit in a few weeks time and doin well in trainin he deserves his no.11 shirt!!!!!!

Before the madness sets in and this subject is brought up a week before the final amid some blind panic or other:
Tadhg Kennelly is not playing in this years All Ireland final.
There is no plane waiting to bring him home.
He has not agreed to don a Batman suit and swoop over Croke Park just before kick off before revealing himself as the saviour of the Kerry team.
They are fifth in the league and guaranteed a play off (despite a pasting by Geelong over the weekend who're ninth in the league). Their qualifying match is on the weekend before the All Ireland!
Oh, and Maurice won't be making a come back either. Neither will any of the Sheehys or Landers.

Watched the game last night again. Brosnan seemed to be getting into good positions but dropped the ball a few times. A bit of fine tuning for the final and he'll be grand.

No, Abbey Street luas stop.... its goes into that side of town now as well: ;o) "He was talking of togging out for the final" That'd be in Dundrum, modelling the "Kerry All-Ire Champions" gear on the morning of the final..... Glad to hear he's hanging out on the right side of town in anyway ;D

i wouldn't like to see the team changed now,its a settled team thats winning games.
i dont think it should be altered but on the other hand i think the temptation will be huge for jack, something akin to dog salvating from the mouth looking at a tee bone steak sitting on the kitchen table while the cooks back is turned.
i hope jack gained enough insight into the game during the "ropey period" to resist.
i wont hold my breath on it though.

We've had the Golden Years. We've had the famine years. We've had the Paudi era.
Now we've had "The Ropey Period".
