That's a bit harsh Mmack, I dont recall Dublin and Meath having anything like the number of fouls as this game, and there certainly wasnt the diving aspect.......even the pure footballers of the Kingdom and Cork have had their "scrappy games"!

what a terrible display yesterday. (altho it was good to see tyrone demolished!). very bad reffing, and an appalling show of indiscipline. tyrone were leaderless and just all over the place. has the absence of , most notably, peter-the-cheater exposed them as frauds for once and for all?? a team unable to cope with what will inevitably come their way - retirements and injuries? no score in the first half. none of their forwards scored from play. most laughable of all was harte accusing derry of being cynical and having a systematic approach to fouling and yellow cards. pot. kettle. BLACK!!!! not a great day for football standards by any means, but maybe the whole country will now stop bowing down to the tyrone propaganda.

Tyrone were like a rudderless sailing into the face of a storm with the captain below struck down with fever.Their lack of ambition really surprised me,i didn't expect that, but their performanced confirmed to me something i always suspected, that they can't perform and win games unless their playing on the edge at a very high intensity and with a real cause to chase.it will be a long dangerous road now for them through the quailifiers, without canavan and maguigan they will struggle big time. it was a very negitive game yesterday,do we really all want to go down that road and immulated that type of game,no thanks, lets get back to playing football.

These kerry men have a very romantic vision of the way gaelic football should be played, only because they won so many all irelands, by waltzing around defences without so much as a hand being put on them. Wake up lads, time has moved on, tatics have developed, teams have become a lot cuter. Fair enough the derry tyrone match was abyssmal, but tyrone will be in the shake up come september. Being a Fermanagh man, I obviously have no time for Tyrone, but with all these underage teams coming along, you may get used to the sight of them lifting the all ireland, year after year.

I would not right off Tyrone at all. It might even suit them to be out of Ulster. They will regroup and they won't meet a team in the qualifiers that they will fear for another two games at least. They will be back in Croke Park later on and once there will some of the injuries cleared up they will be hard to beat. It opens up the path for Armagh now in Ulster as well. People were assuming Kerry would meet Ulster final losers in the quarter final and Winners in Semi this year. People were expecting this to be Armagh and Tryone thats out the window now!

I see today that Derry were described as having a certain "cuteness". Well if cuteness is diving, continuous fouling, 13 behind the ball, 5 men around the ref after each decision etc. etc. then they displayed a huge amount of cuteness. Unfortunately this is the way things have gone and we know who to blame. Recent Kerry games against Waterford, Galway and Cork prove this dreaded disease is spreading south at an alarming rate. Still I'm sure there wasnt too many tears shed for Tyrone yesterday, they started all this didnt they?
Meath looked very poor although they could have scored 3 or 4 more goals only for the Wexford keeper. Leinster is Dublins to lose now.

Fermanagh have been playing a similar type of "Romantic" football recently and were a breath of fresh air two years ago. Hopefully they can build on that this year.
The reason that Kerry won so many all irelands was because they were better than any teams that they played. You dont see too many crap teams waltzing around defences.
Unfortunatley I know Tyrone will still be there or there abouts come August/September but it put a smile on my face to hear the arrogant cheering of Derry passes near the end of that pathetic spectacle yesterday.
I thought the ref did reasonably OK under the circumstances. If he wanted to he could probably have sent off a heap of men.
I see Mc Menamin was at his usual sly punching of men on the ground...at least he didnt seem to bite anyone this year, yet.

The Dubs V Meath matches in the 80's and 90's was of similar fashion to the Kerry V Dublin games in the mid 70's. Very hard challenges (some filthy, ask Mickey Ned). But they were played in a better spirit. Tactics were not as negative.

we haven't beaten cork yet watchdahop KG I know you have not beaten Cork yet.....we haven't beaten Tipp either!! We would assume to be meeing Cork though Would Kerry be better off losing to Cork and get a different route? Beating Cork twice last year might not have been the best thing for Kerry. Tyrone came through the back door last year. Losing yesterday might suit Tyrone in the long run.

Does this mean that we can now avoid Tyrone? The draw was set up as Munster vs Ulster in the Q and Semi final meaning that if we win munster we would play the ulster final losers assuming they win their qualifier. The qualifiers are an open draw i think which basically means that tyrone can now end up anywhere in the last 8 assuming they get there and don't draw a team that they met before in the provincials, ie derry.
The big thing about tyrone yesterday was that they looked leaderless which really surprised me. They still had a lot of experienced players like dooher, cavanagh, gormley, mulligan, jordan (big disappointment for me), I don't buy into these excuses of missing mcguigan and o'neill etc. Kerry won the AI in 2004 without their 2 leaders Dara and Seamo. No more talk about Peter the Great please. He has retired and says he will stay retired. Time to move on.
Must say i thought Hughes was unlucky to get the line. Then again he threw a little rabbit punch and if you play with fire.....
I actually thought Meath might do something this year with Barry giving them a new impetus but they were terrible yesterday.

Wexford played very well, but make no mistake about it, Meath are no good. I would have a concern about Wexfords full back line for the next day, although if their forwards perform then it will take a lot of scores to beat them. Its great to see new counties coming through who play "football".
I hope Offaly dont forfeit the match because they cant count properly. It was a silly error, but surely this sort of thing should not happen again and again.

we still have three chances of meeting them,1 it we loss to cork and draw them in the quailfiers,2.if we win munster and they beat the lossing ulster finalist if drawn against them.3 in the AI final if they keep winning and we keep winning. I think they have it all to do now though.

What always bugged me about Tyrone is how they dominant games and yet don't win. Like last year in certain games including against us they were by far the superior side but there was only 1 kick in it in the end. I thought without Canavan's inspiration they would be a lesser side this year. Then they lost who I believe is their best player (MacGuigan). At the same time we have enough problems ourselves without worrying about who we meet and when.

Tyrone - True to form...
Couple of points to make:
1) I hate the sh1te about it being no harm for Tyrone going through the back door, rather than face the competitiveness of the Ulster Championship. I know they won the last All Ireland through the back door, but I doubt Micky H or anyone Tyrone person would prefer them to take the scenic route. They could now face the likes of Monaghan, Meath, Kildare in their next match and all could be curtains for them.
2) The retirements and injuries argument (or excuse) will be put forward by the same people (on here and in the press) who last September were spouting all this stuff about Club Tyrone, their underage structure, their minor and U21 teams coming through, their professionalism, the “We only train once a week”, the ice baths, the way forward, the way the Kerry should learn from to catch up.
If there was substance in this, then the retirement of a couple of people in their mid thirties, and a couple more injuries would not stop a great team. Sure they would have loads knocking on the door, having come through these brilliant systems waiting for their change.
No, football has not changed forever, just that Tyrone have crawled back under the stone they came from, not to be seen again for another generation.

Well, good to see the Championship is humming along at a nice rate and throwing up results which keep us interested.
Firstly the question answered. Cat malojan is a phrase down at home for something that's absolutely cat. Like the Tyrone v Derry match yesterday.
Well, I predicted Wexford to beat Meath, and am happy with the result. I want to see Meath back up there, but suspect the man to lead them is Colm O'Rourke. Maybe now the Meath county board will listen to him. But the big task on Paul Bealan's hands now is to keep the Wexford lads from believing in themselves. It happened in Meath after beating the mighty boys from the wee county, and it has happened to Mattie Forde before.
Anyway, Tyrone v Derry. Tyrone were beaten at their own game. Full stop. Disappointing fare after my lovely Sunday lunch (thanks Mammy), and I've no idea why I sat and watched it all (apart from the odd glimpse at Monaco - wish I was there). No score from the All Ireland champions in their first half out. That's some statistic. Derry swarmed, Derry dived, Derry punched, Derry harassed, Derry were cynical, Derry took the odd chance (but not enough of them), Derry won the game. Tyrone were leaderless, Dooher looked like the same man he was during the league last year, angry with everybody and everything, including Mickey Harte. Muggsy was chronic and Jordan just seemed like his clutch was broken and he was motoring around in neutral.
What really surprised me was that they didn't patch up midfield early on. It was obvious after 15 minutes that Derry were winning absolutely everything in midfield. Now, I know Micky Harte has this thing (backed up by Mr Facto Kieran Shannon on a weekly basis) that you don't need to win midfield to win the game, as proved by their tussle with Kerry last September. But eh, Mickey, word of advice. It'd be nice to win the odd ball, even one in the first half would have helped. I'm really surprised that Hub and Cavanagh weren't brought into the right thick of it early on. They were on the edges of midfield along with the rest of the swarm, but not in the middle. At one stage they were together on one side as the Derry goalie kicked to the other side. Split them, put them apart to try to contest the kick outs! Speaking of which, what's the latest on Cavanagh's injury?
I genuinely wanted to see Tyrone do well, and meet us coming through the front door. If we meet them in the back door, fantastic. But if we don't meet them, and win Sam, it'll be more of the same "soft All Ireland for Kerry". Tyrone cannot revert back to Canavan again, doing so spells of panic. It might win them an All Ireland now, but will do nothing for the future of Tyrone football. On a positive note for them, Joe McMahon played well when he came on.
Galway v Sligo. Outside of the big three of Tyrone, Armagh and Kerry, Galway and Dublin are the only teams that people feel might challenge for Sam. Well, the big three have started in chonic fashion, but Galway have started rather more brightly, which can only be a good sign for them. Meehan is finally showing on the senior stage what he has shown at every other level these past four years. They looked fresh, hungry and played decent stuff when it wasn't another dower match.
Offaly v Kildare - zzzzz. But then, Offaly might escape the "we used an old sub.....honest judge" clownism that went on and if they play a bullish Wexford I think they might win and be a surprise package in Leinster. Karol Slattery played quite well for them yesterday too.
Cork v Clare. Kind of regret not going to be honest even if Cork did win handsomely in the end. They pulled away despite all the hope for the Clare forward six and have sent out a warning that they intend winning the three in a row, and with a bit of style. I can't believe Gerry O'Grady wasn't taken off Joe Deane after about 10 minutes. Timmy McCarthy still to me is the weak link in that Cork team, with Niall not far ahead of him.
Anyway, great weekends TV - I'm braindead from it all.

Buck02, time to put this "Leinster is Dublin's to lose" propoganda to bed once for all. If Leinster is just Dublin's to lose, then would you not agree that The All-Ireland is Kerry's to lose?? As Kerrygold said, Leinster is actually wide open. Ok, no outstandinmg teams, its like the 1960s again. Perhaps an outstanding team will emerge, time will tell, but any one of the remaining teams will be well capable of winning it. I make Laois slight favourites, they have the biggest incentive, but Wexford or Offaly could hit the final (after probably a very nervy, scrappy semi-final) with all guns blazing to grab a rare chance of glory. Who would want to face Matty Forde in top form (last year he was carrying injury)? I think Carlow could beat Laois, I really do, though I wont put money on it! Kildare have really fallen away, which is more of a surprise than Meath, as Kildare seemed to have alot of good underage players. Leinster is getting stronger though, and next year with Louth progressing too will be a humdinger. Ulster is slipping, though thats not to take from Derry having some quality players, they will be tough for anyone, but they lack pace in some departments. Fermanagh will really fancy their big chance of an Anglo Celt this year, but overall it looks wide open like Leinster. I do fancy Cork to be very close to Kerry, very, very close, and as somebody said, it might suit Kerry through the backdoor.

Mark my words, they are not gone. As I said, they won't win every All Ireland, but they will win a fair share of them going forward and will always be at the top table from now on.

What about Cork's nos 1-9 though! Top class Hurlers each and every one of them.
Galway won't win an All Ireland with that defence. If Sligo had a forward they would have scored two goals early on in the game.

Come off it - Wexford will leak goals and are too green, they wont get the time or space they got yesterday against better teams. Offaly are very average, they'll obviously improve from the 2 games they've played already but they are not a good side. Laois are too lightweight up from to cause a decent defence any major problems. Dublin to me looked good against Kerry in the league (despite bein gmissing 4/5 regulars) and did well in the drawn game against Tyrone last year. They aint the finaished article, far from it, but if Dublin dont win Leinster this year it is a complete failure on their behalf. Add in the fact that all those "boyis in blooo" have no world cup to go to - Dublin with the hill behind them wont be caught in leinster this year.

What a lot of people fail to understand about yesterday is that this game was all about winning. No one other than those from Derry or Tyrone can understand the bitter grudge that exists between the two. Tyrone have destroyed Derry the last couple of times they played them. Derry had been waiting two years for their revenge.
Alot of poeple are complaining about Derry's style of play yesterday. It may not have been good to watch for a neutral, but for Derry fans it was outstanding! They brought a level of intensity to the game that i have not seen in a long time. Crozier really did have his men up and motivated for that game. Tyrone could not have prepared for Derry's fight.
The reason that Derry played the way that they did is because Tyrone do not allow teams to play free flowing football. Kerry people should know that above all others. Its the reason why you can't beat them! Derry went to Omagh and beat Tyrone at their own game, in their own back yard!
Lets be clear though, this is not Derry's style of play, it was simply a tactic they employed in order to beat the all-ireland champions. We suceeded. Derry have some fantastic attackers in the Bradleys, Mark Lynch, Enda Muldoon, and the new lad Barry McGoldrick. Their defence is among the best in Ireland with McCloy, Sean Marty Lochart, McGuckin and Johnny McBride. Not to mention Lynch who can do the job in defence.
Derry's skills will no doubt be displayed when the come up against either Down or Donegal. Both of these teams like to play attacking styles of football, just like Derry. Then we will see Derry's true attacking potential.
Instead of criticising Derry you should be thanking us! We have shown teams how Tyrone can be beaten! Crozier has displayed the tactics needed to beat the best - something Kerry haven't been able to do. Some may say that that display wasn't gaelic football. If you can't handle what you saw don't watch it then, and you might as well not watch your own county either, because when the time comes they will not beat the best either.
Doire Abu!
