What an idiot Nixon is. Firstly there is no way in the world Moran is overweight, secondly to bring any personal issues of David into the media is disgraceful and shows what an ignorant man Nixon is. And thirdly body language? So what? Did having relaxed body language militate against John Egan or Jack O Shea? Or how about Paul Scholes in another sport? Nixon isn't a shrink, he's a sports agent and by the looks of it a very bad one seeing as how the judgment of the player belongs to the club giving him a trial and not a loud mouthed person like himself.

Maybe young Moran sees that the most important thing in life is family, pathetic comments from Mr Nixon, he displays a phenomenal lack of basic human understanding and compassion.

Surprised they went to Australia via the Nixon avenue in the first place.
As Tom Sullivan said, their lives were rosy enough in kerry winning their few all-irelands. It will be interesting to see how they get on, even more so if Strand Road win the Munster championship.

Maybe David is only looking for a 2 week holiday and doesn't give a flying fcuk what Nixon thinks. Here's hoping anyway.

Nixon's comments don't seem very well considered, but i guess there's no room for niceties in the professional game out there.
obviously there is no guarantee that Moran will get a contract, and he's perfectly entitled to decide its not for him if he wants- which would obviously be great news for Kerry supporters.
Moran's game, as many have mentioned, is very different to Tommy's, and maybe this won't suit the Ozzie's- and if it doesn't, we'll gladly have him for next year.
but if the fella wants a contract, i hope it works out for him- if not i hope he enjoys the sunshine for a bit.

I would think david would be the most suited out of the two lads to play AFL.. I totally disagree he is over weight.. Maybe the hype n fluff nixon has been spoutin is not all that is cracked up to be and david has seen through it.. I wish the lad well. n if he decides to return to kerry I for one will be more than glad to see his attitude and his weight tog off for Kerry!!!!

During his peak at United, Eric Cantona had a body fat score of 7 while all his team mates were in double digets. Theres varing levels of fitness and body fat.
Looking well togged out or in a suit doesn't mean your in supreme condition. Larry Thompkins used to cycle from Castle Haven to Cork City to train at his peak. He carried Cork for several seasons on his back.
Sometimes when people like Roy keane speak their accused of being bitter little men. Larry didn't crack management either but both went far beond the edge on the pitch in terms of performance and giving it all for their teams mates and team.
Its a question of how much young players really want it and to what level the wonderfully gifted like David Moran are prepared to go.

i dont think morans suited. he is thoughtful and slow on the ball. he would get hit in aussie rules while in possesion. the name of the game in aussie rules is quick transfer of possesion so you dont get hit. if u saw kennelly this year at the start for kerry he was gettin rid of the ball straight away (concerned about quick transfer of ball without getting hit). moran likes to look up carry ball and pick a pass. doesnt work in their sport. he will be back to us. he is a proper gaelic footballer and thats his game.

This Nixon guy is some piece of work. It reminds me of an old classic lawyer joke which I will adapt for Mr. Nixon:
Q. What's the difference between Ricky Nixon and a Catfish?
A. One is a scum sucking bottom dweller and the other is a fish!

Ambrose, have to agree. I would think his chances of coming back sooner rather than later are high, but good luck to the young man on his future.

Isn't Moran at the same stage as Tommy was last year, I mean isn't it too late for St. Kilda's to sign him to a rookie contract. If that's the case he would be definitely home after the two weeks. Does anybody know if I'm right in this?

Does anybody know if I'm right in this? You might be on to something there Mr. Forensics, both Tommy and David were u21 this year. However wasn't the end of october the signing deadline for Tommy with December 2nd being the deadline for Tadhg as he was already on the swans books. So how can they give David a contract this year so?

Nixon tells Moran to lose weight
24 November 2009
Ricky Nixon has told St Kilda hopeful David Moran that he must lose weight and improve his attitude if he is have a career in Aussie Rules.
Moran arrived in Melbourne last week with fellow Kerryman Tommy Walsh for a fortnight's trial with this year's NFL Grand Final runners-up, but he hasn't made a good impression so far according to controversial players' agent Nixon.
"Dave wants to leave the GAA to play Australian Rules with Tommy, but he arrived here overweight and his body language hasn't been that great," Nixon said.
"It's partly not his fault because he missed a large part of the GAA season due to his father's illness but he needs to show the right attitude to earn an AFL contract with the Saints.
"He's a laid back sort of person anyway but sometimes he comes across a bit too laid back.
"I was concerned when I met him in Ireland a few months ago to talk about the possibility of him coming out to Australia and he hasn't taken the advice on board."
Moran finished ahead of Walsh in a 4km club time trial recently, but Nixon isn't reading anything into it.
"Tommy's a big, powerful forward, so you don't expect him to be lightening quick. Dave did well, but he can train a lot better," he added.

From comments by Nixon it would seem that Moran is on the way back to Strand Road; rumours circulating in Clare yesterday that both Tommy and David will be back for Sunday week against Kilmurray -Ibricane- stranger things have happened!!

well obviously moran has a chance of playing if he is not getting a contract which looks unlikely.
as regards walsh, would a club allow a lad to fly home 24 hours, fly back 24 hours and have a tough final in between where he could get injured and be out for months??
i dont think they would.

I was talking to a narrie (in the know) over the weekend & he said that it looks like David will be back sooner rather than later - he said its like horses for courses & David was off the bridle a long way out. I wouldnt be surprised if he's back for the munster final & it could get very lonely for Tommy over the next few months By the way whats the story with Micheal Qurke, will he be around for the munster final - he's getting married next Saturday???

Is it not a bit rich for a fecker like Nixon recruiting a fella like david Moran and then putting out an insulting comment about his weight in the media.
If he has a bad demeanour while on a trial then that is another matter. I would imagine he looks a bit lazy by the way he runs, but surely that matter could be addressed privately.
The article above is very disrespectful and un-necessary. Nixon strikes me as a brash, arrogant, obnoxious, classless mouthpiece.
He recommended Moran for the trial. Did he not look at his weight and attitude before he went out there.
David...enjoy the experience and tell Nixon where to shove his sport. Come home and follow in your dads footsteps.
People considering a trial in AFL should remember Nixons kiss and tell articles in the future.

Tommy is in anyway but I don't see Davids name or picture in the new draftees for St Kildas (would his title be international rookie like Tommy??) Saints make final list changes Tue, Dec 01, 09 St Kilda Football Club has today announced it has made the following changes to its playing list ahead of the 2010 season, in accordance with today’s 2pm list lodgement deadline. Following Luke Ball’s decision earlier this week to formally leave the Club and nominate for the AFL Draft, he has officially been delisted, along with Leigh Fisher. Brad Howard has also been delisted off the Rookie list. Newly recruited Irishman Tommy Walsh joins the Saints as an International Rookie. www.saints.com.au/season2009/news/newsarticle/tabid/5315/newsid/87082/default.aspx
