i dont think morans suited. he is thoughtful and slow on the ball. he would get hit in aussie rules while in possesion. the name of the game in aussie rules is quick transfer of possesion so you dont get hit. if u saw kennelly this year at the start for kerry he was gettin rid of the ball straight away (concerned about quick transfer of ball without getting hit). moran likes to look up carry ball and pick a pass. doesnt work in their sport. he will be back to us. he is a proper gaelic footballer and thats his game. Good assesment of the Aussie game.....he has the technique alright but not the urgencie required over there...hard luck to him but great to see him back!! ;D

Disappointed for David Moran, would be great for any athlete to experience life as a professional sportsman even for a year or two, not having a go at anyone but a little shocked that people on here are so happy he didn't make it! I know its better for the Kingdom but I think its a bit strange not to be happy for one of our own to go somewhere and make it as a professional athlete for a year or two, just so that we can have him back in a Kerry jersey! Best of luck to Tommy, he has a great build and strength for the game and a great kick, and if he can make the change to the oval ball will be a massive forward for the Saints. Some of us are entitled to believe theres nothing bigger out there than being a kerry senior footballer and all that goes with that privillege of being good enough to wear the green and gold jersey and represent those who have gone before you. Its a personal thing that varies from ala carte support of kerry football to total fanaticism. It keeps some of us going, no disrespect intended to anyone or David.

I hope David isnt too disappointed with this turn of events.
Since 1996 Kerry has stayed at the top by unearthing a golden nugget every year or every second year. David is one as is Tommy Walsh.
Since the final whistle blew in this years final it has been all negativity in Kerry football.
This is fantastic news for Kerry fans.
I hope David goes on now to fullfill his potential. Welcome home David.

He gave it a go and enjoyed his experience, I hope. He can't be looking back on things with regret. Onwards and upwards from here on, secure the starting Kerry jersey, make a right drive at it during the league and play like an old hand come championship!! Wouldn't that be sweet?

Thank God for small mercies. Straight in midfield with Scanlon. Here we go back to back here we come..... Maher ahead of him as potential midfield partner for Scanlon?? maybe wing-forward for Moran?

would see him as more of a centre forward than wing forward. when he can run at the opposition defence he is a major threat. is maher not injured? Quirke is surely in the mix for midfield too. I thought Moran was outstanding when partnered with Scanlon at midfield in the league last yr

Absolutely!...spot on the money as usual KG, couldn't agree more. Moran in the half 4ward line for me.. Maher is a natural fielder!! David is a forward and a very good play maker!! ...I agree with this also...centreforward perhaps?...worth a shot anyway.

2010 will be Morans year to shine..It's great news that he is coming back to us and I've no doubt he will quickly get over the disappointment of not making it in Oz. I expect Moran has a big test in front of him in the upcoming campaign and he may feel he has something to prove to us Kerry clan having had a stab at life down under..More so he will probably feel he has a lot to prove to himself.
I also expect young Barry John to have a big say in 2010..having watched him recently in the U21 final it is clear that he posseses all the great skills and class to make him one of the Kingdoms finest. His comfort on the ball and willingness to take on scores shows he oozes confidence. The League campaign will be vital for these two among others.
I wish both these young bucks all the best in the future with club and especially county because we will certainly need them.

AFL bosses amazed by athleticism of rookie Walsh By Daragh O Conchúir Tuesday, December 08, 2009 THE boss of recruitment with AFL side St Kilda has showered praise on former Young Footballer of the Year Tommy Walsh, labelling him as "different to any six foot four bloke we have seen". "Athletically, Tommy is a first-round draft pick," St Kilda list manager Matthew Drain said. "That was in our mind when we gave up (pick) 16. By trade week we knew he was coming. It was a free hit in a sense that we could get Tommy signed as a rookie." When the former Kerins O’Rahillys star signed on the dotted line at his home in Tralee in October, it brought a two-year pursuit by Drain and player agent, Ricky Nixon, to a conclusion. Two months on, Walsh is immersed in training, and exciting his coaches, who are honing his skills into what looms as a promising AFL career. Drain said it was difficult to categorise Walsh if he breaks into the senior ranks, due to his unusual athleticism for someone of his height. "He is a speed power athlete, a six foot four full-forward or full-back. With all the testing we did, we thought, ‘what have we got here?’ "You don’t get too many six foot four blokes who can run 20m in 2.8 (seconds), and have the agility he has." Walsh is looking forward to playing professional football. "It is a big driving factor, to wake up every day, put on your boots, and that’s your job." This story appeared in the printed version of the Irish Examiner Tuesday, December 08, 2009 Read more: www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/afl-bosses-amazed-by-athleticism-of-rookie-walsh-107375.html#ixzz0Z5pwNoEg

Obviously the Aussies can see something from 12000 miles away that we cant see on our own door step, all the credentials to become the best forward of his generation. A very real blue chip player.

Kerrygold,
Don't give up on Tommy Walsh coming back. I was told on good authority today that he is doing a strong line with a North Kerry woman. If he is a hot blooded Tralee boy that will surely entice him back for the summer.

I wouldn't write Tommy off yet from coming back, the fact that the Aussies view him as quick and powerful is hardly a great surprise. I would be more interested in how he is doing in terms of the skills of the game such as shooting, passing, handling not to mention the tactical awareness required. North Kerry women are also a fairly persuasive lot so fingers crossed!

Kennelly says the tide to AFL will grow stronger In this section » Cody not for changing for sake of changingHarte believes mark rule will ruin quality productTHE GAA should brace itself for a significant increase in the recruitment of Irish players by the AFL clubs in the coming years.
That’s the prediction of Tadhg Kennelly, who is convinced draft concessions granted to the AFL’s two new teams, Gold Coast and Western Sydney, will inevitably lead to an increase in Irish players in Australia.
Kennelly said the best footballers were an ideal alternative source of talent for the 16 existing clubs that will lose draft picks because of the concessions, and thus lose out on the best local players.
“They’re going to be looking for the next ready-made talent and I definitely think there’s a pool of talent in Ireland that’s ready to be tapped into,” he said.
The prospect of playing professional sport is the biggest lure for Irish footballers, he explained. And while there is some concern in Ireland about the loss of some of the GAA’s best players to Aussie Rules, Kennelly reckons the trend will be ultimately beneficial to the association.
“I’ve had a lot of them get in touch with me, particularly when I was at home because it was a lot easier.
“They ask me about it and I’ve told them that they’ve got nothing to lose.
“If you go over and you don’t like it . . . you can study part-time, you can learn to become a professional athlete and if you decide to come back, I can guarantee you you’re going to come back a better Gaelic footballer.
“When they do come back, they are going to better the game of Gaelic football.
“They’ll better the coaching standards and they’ll better the football because they’ve been in a professional environment for so long

Kennelly also predicted that Tommy Walsh, a man he described as "a monster", has a bright future at St Kilda.
