Appeal being heard tonight. Surely they will have to give Galway a replay, it was clearly a point.

galway deserve a replay, that score would have put them a point up wit 30 seconds left,a disgraceful call by the umpire and its only fair that they get to replay it.

Has there ever been a case before where has been replayed due to a wide/not wide error? Not that I know of.

From Hogan stand 01 East Kerry Minor Final Firies Vs. Currow. . . Currow hot favorites. . .Firies race into an early lead. ref starts to turn on Firies... Currows buckley cuts in and hits a shot that goes in through A HOLE IN THE NET AT SCARTAGLEN PITCH. . . the CURROW umpire has to duck out the way of the ball yet awards the goal. currow force a draw with the help of the ref who again is in charge of the replay and firies lose by 2 points. the greatest miscarraige of justice in football. . . forget that ladies match!!

Gerry Murphy immediately springs to mind.
Carlow game was against Laoise, but in that instance Laois offered a replay.
Maybe we should appeal the result in 1982 on the grounds that Fat Seamus Darby pushed Tommy Doyle in the back.

the umpire on the left of the goal clearly signaled wide straight away surely he was in the best position to see the ball. i dont know if u seen a bizarre incident the other nite where a ballboy put the ball in the back of the net after it had went wide and the ref (a woman) gave the goal and the result stood.

The picture is blurred and therefore not conclusive. The ball could be emerging from behind the post, and the distortion a trick of sight. The umpire's decision is final, otherwise we would never be done with protests about scores etc. These days it's possible to what Bill McLaren would have called "alot of jiggery pokery" with images....... I could prove that Vaughan's kick had already gone over the bar when the Mayo keeper caught it

Ah now, you can see clearly that the ball has passed inside the post, part of the ball is still obscuring the view of the post, if it had been wide the post would be covering part of the ball. In my opinion, it's a definite point.

Yeah, and you can also "clearly" see that the ball is blurred and shaped like a giant egg, so what does that prove? Sure even the goalposts are completely blurred, look how wide they are - even I could score a point with posts like those

As mentioned by BIGMAC above - the ballboy putting the ball over the goal line and the goal standing - even after it went to an appeal!
And the goal did count!
As for my 2 cents on the Armagh Galway result, I believe it should stand as is, harsh and all as it is in the cold light of day.

From breakingnews: Galway's ladies footballers have failed to secure a replay of their All-Ireland semi-final clash with Armagh. The Connacht side had appealed against Armagh's one-point victory last weekend on the grounds that they themselves had a perfectly valid point waved wide by the umpire.
However, the appeal was rejected last night, paving the way for Armagh to face Cork in the final on October 1st.

There's no difference in the end between an umpire getting it wrong and the referee making a bad decision leading to a point. Both have the same outcome and balance themselves out over the course of a game unless the referee has a chip on the shoulder and then your goosed anyway.

they haven't got the replay, so guess it doesn't matter in the end. Definite point though...
