I'm going with Kavanagh to partner Dara - I actually should have Michael Donnellan in there too but sure we could be here all day naming players. Joyce, Clancy, Beano, Corkery, Bergin, Adrian Sweeney, Mattie Ford, Desie Dolan, Mike Meahan

I picked Ciaran McManus as soultion to our midfield problems, but it's a close run thing between him and Cavanagh

yeah it was a toss up between the two for me too - macmanus is class as well i just think cavanagh - muppet and all as he is - met him once hes a cocky f**ker - hed still be my choice at present - macDonnell would be unreal for the full forward line bu not mch good if we wernt getting all the ball in

I'd take McManus anyday, we'd be virtually unbeatable with him and a back to form Darragh midfield.

Tough tough question.
I´d almost opt for Mcdonnell as full forward, but Crowley is doing quite alright lately. Browne is too similar to what we have. Not sure how Trevor Giles form is of late, but he´s one of my favourite footballers of the last 10 years. Very close to saying Lynch at corner back or Canty (legend) at centre back. However, our biggest problem is at midfield, so I picked Cavanagh.
Theres no decent wing forward on that list. We could do with another option there (the obvious one no longer plays intercounty and we all know who that is). Very close to saying DOnnellan but he´s too inconsistent and tempermental.

Dont think we need to go outside the county.Kerry breed the best footballers in the country. We need get people involved with the county that will look outside the same few clubs for players. There are tons of player all through the county that should be called up to try out for the panel. New York is proof of it.The amount of clubs getting in touch with lads in Kerry to play with them here for the summer is mad.Leitrim Now have a total of 3 Tyrone have one.Clare 3 Armagh 1 boston unknow amount. But Kerry here got the best of the lot.We dont like when Kerry lads go play with other clubs and Im all for palying with your own.If you were to start getting transfers from other counties the price tag will follow.Trust me on that one. The Kingdom forever

Joan, you're dead right, and I think whoever started the poll agrees too. It was just as a matter of interest. Who would you opt for?

Think I would be leaning towards Kavanagh or McManus. But like I said the talent is in Kerry. Its just politic that keep some lads from not getting a run.

there may be politics in the squad but id like to know what players you reckon would oust anyone in the current team - and what players have been affected by these politics

What about tom kelly or ross mulennly from laois??
|
|
|
Post by FatTom on Jun 16, 2004 11:18:54 GMT
kelly is good but we dont really need a half back i spose hed be better than fitzmaurice but really he wouldnt be in the same class as other players mentioned as for munalley hes no better than what we have in the wing forward line at present - neither would be a pick for me if i was asked for one player - id still go for a midfield option despite kirbys performnace on sunday or steven macDonnell

Any takes on Mattie Forde? Averages 1-8 a game.
Himself , Gooch and MFR would be some full forward line!!

We can do fine without outsiders playing for Kerry. All this silly throw away talk like what would such and such be worth on the transfer market. What crap!!!!!!!!!! Have it yourself or don't have it at all is what I say.

Would have to go for canty to shore up that leaky defence..we can be playing fantasy with mcdonnell or mattie forde but none of that is good if we are conceeding scores left right and centre

I'd go for Kieran McDonald. Our worst line in the field for the last few years has been the half forward line, I'll never forget that day against Meath, they were useless. McDonald has been the best half forward in the country this year, dare I say better than Declan.
He might be pushing on, but he's got class

You guys seem to be missing the point with all this glorification of non Kerry players. What would be the glory in winning an AI with parachute players from other geographical zones? Also let's hope we never see the day when the thought of a non Kerry manager might engter the debate.

Has to be Cavanagh, the best allround player in the country at the moment.

The player we need more than anyone at the moment is Moynihan (not saying that because I'm biased, its because its true).
If Moynihan was in there I'd be confident of beating Derry. Now its just about 50/50.

Moynihan fit would be my preference. But if I had to choose one, then oddly enough, I'd go for Paddy Christie or Kevin Hughs. Ok, both have had a quiet year but are still exceptional players.
Interesting fact in Sean Moran's article in todays Irish Times about this - there once was a player up north who's job in the NI Electricity Board took him to many NI counties. He played for three in quick succession!!!!!
Was talking to a family member of one of the Limerick football panel on Saturday. Seems they are trying to poach Declan Browne who has family in Limerick. Rumour went that Joyce wanted to move to another county too and that he has family from Limerick but can't see that happening with John O'Mahony gone. Browne has always sworn that he would never leave Tipp.

Sure almost two years ago there was talk of Padraig Joyce transferring to an east kerry team and playing for Kerry. Apparently he thought long & hard about it.

I remember that! Glenflesk would have cleaned up - but Kerry would never have selected him!

Damien Hendy (ex-centre back for Kildare) transferred to Currow for a year about 3 years ago, he was brutle for Currow and played centre back all year for Kildare.

Post by FatTom on Aug 18, 2004 12:35:43 GMT
Yeah but sure Kildare are brutal!

Playing brutal for Currow would more than qualify one to play Kildare Standard, stick to horse *e lads in Kildare and not the human kind! We will win sam and ye can win the horses ;D

I would pick Sean Cavanagh at midfield because i believe he is the best midfielder in the game and he has the engine of a steam train
