Perhaps this has been discussed before, but I shake my head at the idea that you have a complete team of subs? The kerry selectors make a handful of substitutions in each matches, but most of these switches are the same. I cant imagine what it feels like for the rest of players who never even get to tog out in the championship, and dont come within an asses roar of getting the nod.....but yet must remain focused IF they got the call?? And those same subs must put in the same workload at trainings a few nights a week. I just cant imagine training like a whure just to be a sub through the whole championship!
How many different subs have been used so far in the 4 games? About 7? I know most got a run in the league games. The sooner the panel is reduced down to 24 the better

Most managers love having 30 on the panel, I'd say mainly because of 15 v 15 games in training.

Mayos have a panel of 33, McDonald aid on Sunday game after receiving man of the match award.
30 needed for instense training sessions, and internal 15 v 15 games.

Yes, but you don't need 30 travelling or on the sideline. Most panels have over 30 now, so there already are people who are training and being left out. Match day panels should be cut back to 24.

I know the manager uses the same players over and over but at least it gives him more options in each position on the bench and sure aren't the lads proud to be wearing the kerry senior jersey.
I dunno if I agree with it or not but it's not that bad a thing really!

I agree with FatTom that a 30 panel is a good idea. Te current injury crisis underlines that fact. The selectors need not look beyond their current panel for replacements. I remember being in the Cusack stand in 1997 and three members of the Kerry panel were forced to leave the dugout and sit in the stand. The problem arose with Meath a few years back in the marathon games with Dublin when they lost a few players to suspensions and injuries and they were down to 17 players. They had plenty players in the county but not up to the required fitness level. I agree with the GPA on this issue - a 30 player panel and genuine medals for all. We are fortunate to have won so many in Kerry but spare a thought for the many countis who have just one or two. I don't think it devalues the medal because really a medal is just a token. The players and the supporters know who the real stars are and nowadays everything is properly recorded for future historians.

how many All-Ireland medals do the winners get now? i heard there was 30 given out last year. i also heard that because there were 31 on the panel in the lead up to the All-Ireland final that two guys were brought into a room and told that they had to toss for the last medal....and I can give the names of the two players involved if anybody is interested.

I don't think there is any need to name these 2 lads and cause them any more embarassment than they have already had to endure.
Best to leave well enough alone with the 2 lads but question the decision making of the people who allowed that situation to transpire. Disgraceful in my opinion, both in the treatment of the 2 players and to the value of an All-Ireland medal.
