I could be dreaming (the pressure of the strike & college finally getting to me) but is it in soccer they are trying to introduce some electronic thing so they will know if the ball crosses the line? Couldn't the same be done for football in hurling? Surely the technology is there to do something. Surely it cannot be too hard to place sensors in between the goal posts and a chip in the ball that if it goes in between the posts (For those cynics out there the sensors would also sense balls/sliotors that go over the height of the posts) and this would remove all doubt. Umpires could then concentrate on decisisons such as square balls and 45s

For Croker anyway, for God's sake the incident is replayed in that big screen before the keeper has the ball kicked out. You can hear the crowd groan if it was the wrong decision. If I was a ref and I turned and saw that I would use my common sense and reverse my original ruling even if it wasn't commonplace yet! Any "controversial" decisions are not replayed on the screens, for that reason. I dont see how any device can prove a ball (especially in the air) is 100% over the line, like all decisions, it can be marginal, and that's part of the game. Sure next thing people will be calling for tracking device implants to judge whether a player ran 5 steps, didnt get the ball up with the toe, and didnt use the proper fist (and there should be "The Bomber Liston Palmed Goals d'Or" award every year )

there should be a Tribunal of Inquiry into all the home town decisions at the Hill end in favour of Dublin. Problem is that it would run and run for years like the Mahon Tribunal.

Two little dwarf butchers should be hired to sit on top of each goal post to signal if the ball is over the bar??
