David Clifford is 23, with all stars to beat the band, he scored 2 today, was not his best day, by his standards, credit due to Kildare defence , I thought they grew into the game, my point being, easy on the criticism, David is allowed an off day.
The point some people on here are making about the McGrath cup, any one with an ounce of knowledge about football would have said from the outset that the McGrath cup was experiment and game time into fellas legs, I don’t think any of the kerry lads were out celebrating the victory.
I agree today is a game we could have won, but if we did it was going to be by the finest of margins, anyway great to have the league back, and good to have debate on football back. Bring on the dubs.

Where's the steel lads? We're a NICE team. And for sure we'll improve BUT!!!We were totally out muscled by Tyrone last year in the final third.A point is a point I suppose. I worry though.🙈🙈🙈

Woeful. Soaked from head to toe and miserable after that. How clueless and rudderless they were for the whole game. Trying to play keep ball with 3 minutes plus injury left when most of them couldnt do basic handling the whole game. Make no mistake, Kildare are the weakest team in the division and should have won today. The 2 positives i will say was the defensive performance of the backs and Shane Murphy. Defensive performance only because in todays game you have to offer more going forward, and after GW went off, we had nothing.
As from number 8 up bar a few touches of class from DC….. shocking!

Couple of points… Fantastic Kerry crowd - good atmosphere. Our half forward line were largely redundant - well documented already Our midfield played well in the first half and faded badly in the second half - we won an amount of breaking ball in the first half but very little in the second half We had no midfield options on the bench - Seanie is much less impactful when playing mid Kildare pressed in the second half which made a big difference - we got no platform Full back line did well - Dan O’Donoghue was excellent considering his lack of experience I thought Morley had a good game at 6. Game turned when Gavin went off - he was unmarkable today Frustrating day for the inside line - looked very laboured as the day went on - Savage at least showed for the ball and tried to make things happen Next weekend taking on new significance after today’s performance

I genuinely expected a win and a win by a bit to spare, that was poor fair, only a handful and mainly in defence will be happy with that performance. I am worried at certain aspects of our play and it looked at stages like certain players did not understand their role, I counted at feast four times today where two players went to the one player and left a gap or opposing player unattended to and you could see the players visually pointing to the space or place they should have been covering so I’d imagine this is a work in progress
In addition our first touch and ball handling was very poor today, looking at certain players they looked leggy, I don’t know was the pitch heavy but looking at the lack of freshness and poor ball control, i envisage we had a week of heavy training.
Secondly, we were very extremely rudderless in the final quarter, in the last few seasons, at this stage of a game Tommy Walsh would have been introduced and we would have had a plan b and a ball retention option. We need to devise a new plan b for such a scenario mid game.
Finally, I know there will be changes around the middle next week, but in honesty I have time for Spillane he tackles relentless and turns over a good bit of ball. I would retain with hopefully an available Diarmuid O’Connor, therefore releasing Seanie back to the forty, flanked by Savage and Paudie.
We were in trouble today in the second half in midfield, but the lack of centre field cover on the bench surprised me, I couldn’t understand why Paul O’Shea wasn’t listed in the match day panel,
Anyway roll on a wounded Dublin, we will know a hell of a lot more on how we are progressing this day next week.

23rd minute three players around a Kildare forward and they manage to foul. Someone needs to show this clip to our defenders and a clip of what Armagh did a few times last night. Free in vs free out.
Adrian Spillane and Dara Moynihan very poor.
Gavin White a big loss. Fellas giving out about him on this forum don't know much about football.

This league looks ultra competive and winning our home games are a must.
I did have that chalked down as a win today so it feels like a loss.
It has to be said that in all the games we have lost Dublin 19, Cork 20 and Tyrone last year and again today it wasn't our much talked about defense but rather our forwards that have misfired.
Did anyone else think Geaney was fouled in the last few minutes baring down on goal ?
As mentioned last night Tyrone took a fair beating in the league and won Sam a few months later so you never know.

Dublin will be feeling a lot less sorry for themselves after witnessing events today - nothing to fear and all to play for now. I've no idea how next Saturday nights match might go but another draw would be no surpirse given teams are so closely matched.

Referred to it in previous post but looking at the refereeing last night & today was like watching 2 different codes - genuine attempts at bottling up players was being penalised by Coldrick - two frees awarded to Kildare in the first half were in no way fouls which resulted in two handy tap overs.

I suggested the same half forward line on here during the week horse, Seánie on the 40 with Jack and paudie, 3 great football brains, I hope that's the end of Jack's Seánie in midfield experiment, it didn't work.

Well to be fair K’boy, Seanie being moved to the centre of the field was more out of necessity with the unavailability of the club tied lads on all Ireland glory trail and injuries.

This league looks ultra competive and winning our home games are a must. Jack oConnor is very lucky this year to get the sort of league games that PK didnt get last year. The Dublin game was competitive last year but Galway and Roscommon weren't at the races at all. Tyrone didnt appear to be taking the game in Killarney seriously either. Todays effort by Kildare was super but what else would you expect from a side with Glen Ryan, Anthony Rainbow and Johnny Doyle on the line. Dublin might look off colour at the moment but they will be putting all shoulders to the wheel next week.

Might be back on the 40 soon. Days like this we missed Moran physic to pluck it out of the sky.

Line up i'd like to see: Ryan Donoghue Foley Casey Begley Morley TomSul Diarmuid Jack Paudie Seanie Jack Tony David Killian
Assuming GW is out, would take opportunity to see Tom at wing back and Dylan in the corner.
Na Gaeil midfield pairing.
Half fwd line that has a good mix.
No Murphy or Geaney - this is about the next generation and seeing what they have.

Ya, I like your line up, similarly I'd also like to see Tom Sullivan on the wing, but would it be fair to throw Casey in against the Dubs in a full housed ASP. I'd like to see more of Breen if fit a lot too will depend of the aftermath of Sigerson on Tuesday night. I'd lean towards. Ryan, O'Donoghue, Foley, Tom Sull, Breen, Morley, O'Beagleoich, Diarmuid & Adrain, Savage, Seanie, Paudie, DC, Geaney and Killian. For me Brosnan hasn't kicked on from the form shown when at Crokes. The availability of the Na Gaeil lads is imperative.

Now is the time to learn about fellas - not in a very 1-sided Munster c'ship game (e.g. insert County) or in a latter stage league game where the opponents have checked out (e.g. Tyrone).
I think if GW is out, the opportunity to see Dylan and Tom outside him is ready made.
Tony scored a fantastic point in the 2nd half today when Kerry were abject. I felt Geaney was poor throughout today, Spillane was poor in the 2nd half.
If we dont blood new players, I think we are done for later in the summer. Now is the time, if they dont come good, well then its back to Murphy, A Spillane and Geaney et al for Championship 2022.

Armagh v Donegal is 14 days after the league final i think so their focus will be shifting to that towards the end of the league.

Pat Spillane raised a point I hadn't considered. Kerry's half forward line were all under 5 foot 10, in an area that is crucial for winning primary possession at kickout time. I would have thought our best half forward line would be DOC, SOS AND Paudie where we have 2 men over 5'10'. So it won't be anything to worry about come Championship time I'd imagine

I am afraid Tom took 10 steps for his point today, the dingle dancers are fast a foot. But he does ghost into great positions.

Does he have qualifications as a psychologist? It’s all about the small margins now so we’re a bit behind the curve from other teams when it comes to having a sport psychologist. Every aspect should be covered and it definitely won’t do any harm having one.

That would also be my preferred half forward line with Stephen O’Brien as the main alternative option.

2 words....January thirtieth. Walk aysy lads - Newbridge is very tight, wet weather, soft(ish) ground. Lot different to conditions later on. No need to be going over the top whatever the result was today. Compare Newbridge today to Croke park conditions last night.
Main issue I have is the lack of physicality half-back to half forward - this will be improved with Breen, Diarmuid, Jack, David. I know I keep banging on about Barry O Mahony - but he is made for this type of physical competition...I wish Jack would bring him in (assuming he has made himself available). He has a lot more football than some of the lads we saw starting and coming on today.
Adrian Spillane is a conundrum for me - I love his fight and physicality, but he needs to learn to control his aggression and learn to shadow sometimes instead of the blatant pushes we saw today a couple of times.
This year I think we will see a very tight league and championship. There are no clear front-runners for once. Every team seem to have their pluses and negatives, including ourselves.
