Dublin scored only 3 points from play in the entire second half. Any set of backs in the country would be proud of that stat. But to concede 4 goals in the opening 35 mins is incredibly alarming . If that was in August Dublin would have finished out the game

A game that will have to be watched a few times in order to unpick it properly. Very happy with the way Kerry came back into the game once the legs were introduced. It would have been easier to accept our lot and move on to next weekend but it was great to see O Connor and co take it to Dublin in a way that Moran and Geaney failed to do. Dublin are class, they played superb football and the lead conductor himself, Cairán Kilkenny, was superb, ably assisted by Niall Scully. Lots of things to learn from and improve on, a great place o be this early in the year.

Rather ship 4 goals today than some time later in the c'ship. Plenty of learnings if we can apply the right fixes. Against these boys, everyone has to be on it - savage workrate and cuteness is required. And legs. Would you go with the same back 6 or try switch up a bit ? We were terrible down the wings today. Its a fair question. So obviously Ryan comes in, then in defence, Sherwood and Tom need to be considered. KK and CoC are built like tanks and for me JS has the pace and power to do a job. But the game has evolved from 6 on 6. Moran and PG struggled badly today and Dublin murder teams with overlapping runners. I'm not advocating going defensive but you absolutely cant have PG at 12 so someone like SoB makes a big difference - up and down like DM on the other wing. He and DoC were excellent today.

Dublin played with us, They looked have arsed if we are honest. They cut us open at will and anyone calling that an over reaction is kidding themselves. Positive for me O'Connor and Moynihan both gave it everything. Moran and Geaney not at the races at all.

Surprised at some of the half-time comments here, people making out that Kerry were being hammered, game was over, should have been further behind etc. Certainly wasn't my impression of the half. Same number of scores and roughly the same amount of misses for both sides. Yes, our defence was in bother but otherwise I thought we were on top and goals were keeping Dublin in the game. We got no help from Hurson either; his inexplicable ignoring of the advantage rule cost us big in that half. Massive character shown in the second half; delighted to get a result at the end. Outscored Dublin by 6 in the end, that's not bad at all. Moynihan was immense today and and O'Connor came of age, I think. Murphy went out of his way to make amends in that second half. Not sure how you can say they shouldn't have been further ahead they missed a bucket load.

Dublin have more gears but Kerry have more problems would be my summation from today.
Great credit for the fight back from Kerry but I thought we were lucky enough to get a draw as the game could and should really have been over at half time. The Dubs left at least 3 goals after them in that first half alone and were playing at their ease. Of course the ref was frustrating and a Kerry goal should have stood but the Kerry defence was still opened easily and with little effort from Dublin. There's still a gap between Dublin and Kerry for me. Dublin are just so strong around the middle and up front and I just feel they have more gears in them. Much to ponder but still hard to see this Dublin team being beaten when push comes to shove this year.

If that was in August Dublin would have finished out the game I think we conceded 3 in the first half. The 4th was a penalty in the 2nd half. Morely was caught rotten on the wrong side of O'Callaghan and that's enough. I could see it before it happened COC was also cute enough to hold Murphy off the ball for another. We know Dublin will get goal chances. Our full back line needs to be much tighter without a doubt but I wouldn't say it's a total write-off either

I was worried at half time that we were in for a hammering. Fair play to Kerry they did not let that happen and should have won. The game will stand more to Kerry than Dublin.Another great day out for Dara Moynihan and Diarmuid OConnor was outstanding at Midfield. Worrying to let Con do so much damage but I guess D Clifford did plenty of it too at the other end.

Asking Kerry to go more defensive tactically, after all we've seen since 2015, would be insanity.

I think I’d go with the same except Tom O’Sullivan in for Beaglaoich when he’s available. Sherwood also a possibility. Morley and Murphy were really in trouble in the first half but stepped it up massively in the second. I thought Gavin White was outstanding. Foley was good and I can’t find too much fault with Gavin Crowley. Beaglaoich had a tough first half as well, improved in the second but he’s definitely a wing back but not a starter for me. The second half display was very encouraging. Problems undoubtedly showed up in the first half and shows lots of work needed but with that work and a bit more help from a mobile midfield, I think we can and will get it right at the back come business time. The main problem I saw in that first half was our backs were constantly switching who they were marking and it was creating serious mismatches with O’Callaghan on Murphy for the goal being the perfect example. We need to assign each back a forward to mark and follow him wherever in the forward line he’s playing.

We got shredded at times today in defense. We just aren't physical enough to match the dubs. Also
Diarmuid O'Connor Paul Geaney Gavin White Ronan Buckley Brian Ó Beaghlaoich
How many times are we going to shoehorn someone into the wing forward spot? As others have said the game passed Moran by.

BoB on KK was a disaster waiting to happen and so it unfolded. Dublin are metronomic to the point of making the game a borefest wating for teams to commit, make an error and then they pull the trigger. We fell for that royally in the first half and they capitalized repeatedly on physical mismatches.

Maybe it’s time to try Graham OSullivan in an extended role within the team. He would be more of a physical match for some of the Dublin forwards. I think from today it is so clear that if you cant match Dublin or at least half match Dublin for legs and physical strength in the back line you will concede goals and lots of them.

Moynihan did well and I would continue with him and Stephen O’Brien should be brought back in now with Paudie a very good impact option from the bench.

Also there was a stage in the first half which was captured perfectly on the camera where Dublin won our kick out and were pouring forward from midfield and David Moran and Diarmuid OConnor were just jogging back after them ... that just cannot happen. We got lucky that Dublin just kicked the point on this occasion .. Croke Park mid summer and the ball would be in the net. In my view Paul Geaney and David Moran are impact subs... Stephen O’Brien and Jack Barry to come in.

The forearm at the start of the second half (throw in) was Hurson's worst moment. Free to Dublin. 🤷♂️ There were a lot of late challenges that Hurson missed.
Delighted for Philly. Couldn't happen to a nicer lad.
Great comeback

Some bizarre advantage decisions from the referee today, very frustrating from a supporters view point must be unbelievably frustrating for the players. Our defence is very porous, we were back in a formation but nobody was was getting close to their men. Two of their goals were gift wrapped with unforgivable naivety from experienced players and our keeper has to step up big time with his responsibility for his square. He also frustrated me with his failure to have the ball and tee ready to set up for a quick kick out on the restart, it looked like we were ten points up the way he was slopalling around the place. This resulted in dublin both attacking our kick out and more importantly getting into their defensive structure which allows them to either attack if they turn the ball over or retreat into their defensive setup if we win our own kick out.
I don’t like criticising players but I can’t see what Buckley offers, he gave away two silly frees and from recollection did little else, I also felt the substations he made were a a little questionable but I suppose the team ground out a very impressive draw against a team who were given far too much rope. One positive is the scoring advantage we got with our hammering of Galway last week, I can’t see dublin beating them by as much as we did so hopefully we will top the table as it will be a great thing to get extra game time..

Whatever about the merits of the subs, we simply had to remove PG and Moran, if anything for their own good. PG was down on his haunches when he came off and Moran looked breathless too. You simply can't carry a single body for 20 or 30 mins against Dublin and expect not to pay the price. Mayo left their corner forward on in the final last year and he was wretched for 45 minutes. As Dublin run from everywhere, they quickly identify and ruthlessly expose any given passengers on the day. Its cruel but its a fact. They are machine like (aided and abetted by their pipeline and resources) and if you are not willing and able to do the hard yards then you have no business on the pitch.

Some people on this forum might want to rewatch the match. It wasn’t a free at the throw-in for the second half. The play was stopped due to a head injury. Fenton had gathered the loose ball. Thus he restarted with possession.
When Small was injured it was a hop ball and not a free in.
And a pet peeve of mine the advantage rule. Playing an advantage unfortunately does not give the fouled player permission to themselves commit a foul. Moynihan was fouled but he cannot take 9 steps to score a goal. Because of this over carry the ref brings it back for a free in. Unfortunate but perfectly appropriate refereeing.
When was the last time Dublin scored only 9 points in a match I wonder??

I was hoping today's game might give us hope of stopping Dublins run but I can't see it happening this year.Dublin are a well coached almost professional team and Kerry are a poorly coached amateur side. The manner in which Dublin can play keep ball just shows the difference in coaching. How often did we give the ball away needlessly. We're playing for second place again like the rest.

All comment is based on what we saw on TV, i.e. has anybody even spoken with a single person who was there, well bar Ambrose? It was commentated on in a language that few can understand and in fairness this latter aspect also narrows the pool of commentators and pundits. Furthermore there was little post match analysis as the hurling was on and Radio Kerry also cut it short.
Not meaning to defend Kerry, nor am I intentionally countering the 'summary execution' on here, but here is my take.
That Dublin were only cruising is an optical illusion, playing teasing tactics has fellas looking relaxed while the chasers are running from pillar to post, draining, and though that should have worn us down, we finished stronger and which is even more remarkable given the gruelling last weekend - isn't 2 weeks the required recovery and what with that being the first game in all of 6 months?
If you look closer, Dublin misses were pressurised and we had pressurised misses too and what's more, when we attacked them they had few answers and this we need to do more of.
PM and BO'B got a gruelling and we were beaten in lár na páirc but the 'man on man' stats were not abnormal for a close encounter and maybe fellas sacrificed their own game by applying effort elsewhere, DO'C and Moynihan were superb and should DC not have gotten MOTM with 1-6?
If we drew playing as bad as some think then we could destroy 'em if we meet again. We also had 50% more scores than them which is a massive plus.
I was initially frustrated by the loose marking but Ambrose said Dubs were continually changing positions, sweeper, etc though yes, that was only part of this, we had fellas on their own while Dubs attacked and this had me demented, I was goin' to jump into the TV screen myself!
My concern here is that we appear to be learning from them, chasing them, instead of pulling rabbits out of our own hat - anytime we do this it works well. We are Kerry of 37 All Irelands, the last 6/7 minors, we wrote the damm book on how to play football and here we are chasing the bloody game. Their confidence ouses while we appear to be a bit confused at times - maybe a few past masters need to chat with them, Declan, Gooch, Brian Sheehan - fellas in their own clubs, instil confidence in 'em, belief, 'ye proved ye are as good as the supposed best team ever, so stop pretending you aren't.'
Our interplay was brilliant, our ability to deliver the ball into chest of the target was sublime, Fitzgibbon is the making of a fine keeper, looks like the ref cost us, definitely with the advantage for the goal, so we really won!
Now fellow pundits, put that in yer pipe and smoke it!
I also recall a spectator of old saying he couldn't say what he thought of a game until he read Houlihan in the Evening Press on Monday. Maybe TSG will shed some light on what was an exciting game and we are now well set up for the year ahead with nil to fear, and isn't that the hallmark of a successful League campaign, and we achieved it in 8 days.
I still believe we have the makings of our all time best team here and we need to support them in every possible way to realise their dream, our management really need to get a leaver on this, get Kerry Group motivational experts on the case. To beat the Dubs would be something special - teams giving us a game of it historically were hailed a heroes.
Tá uimhir a triocha hocht ag teach a chairde and then it will be the number where life begins!

Another positive feature out of today, and the Galway game thinking back on it, is the minimal number of frees offered up in scorable positions. Every score was earned
