We got caught in 2017 thinking about a Dublin problem we never encountered. We should be concentrating on ourselves, we have the talent and we need to refine the plan. Saturday was a freak event, we learned nothing apart from we can be ruthless and keep the foot down, however we will not get it as easy for the rest of the league or championship. One game at a time

FFS are we playing out The Championship here, the Billy Keane's of the world wouldn't be in it with us talking the talk!
Sat was a great day and Sunday next is another we will try to win, doing as we always did.
Galway were poor in part because we wrecked 'em, Tribes probably a step up from De Rebels but we now know us being better is not enough, you have to prove it.
If we keep doing that then that is as good as it gets and whatever that gets us is what we deserve.

Next weekends game against Dublin is simply a league encounter - don't overthink it. It is not in Croke Park, the stakes are minimal in terms of winning and come the end of the year it will most likely be irrelevant. I don't want to lose to Dublin ever and will take a win if we achieve it but in the context of this year I don't give a damm - all I want this year is to beat them (should we meet them) in Championship. Let the team and management use next weekends game however they chose and learn from it in the pursuit of the bigger prize.
Dublin yesterday always looked in control - the penalty decisions were crazy and I worry about the extra responsibility being handed to ref's that can decide a game. In the first half Dublin had only 1 wide I think and this brings me back to my hobby horse - despite our cricket score against Galway we still left too many chances behind and this worries me. To win tight games conversion rate is key.
On Begley - he picked up the black card (harshly we can argue) after a tangle with the same player moments earlier. Only he will know if he was driven by the earlier tangle in his subsequent tackle - again thinking of tight games, cool heads will prevail.
On Moran, he was strong on the ball and his positioning excellent. He seemed to be tiring and struggled in a covering run minutes before he was called ashore. At 33 he is nearing the end of his playing days but he is still hugely important for us and a leader in this squad.
Lets see how next weekends games go and not rush into fantasy land based on the first outing of the season.

only kerrys point about david moran is important. He is still one of the best players in the county but the mistake kerry have made with him is that he is tiring and he should go at a certain time with his job done. The fact he is tiring has cost us in his decision making late in games eg.Dublin All Ireland 2 years ago and cork game last year.Let us play him for his strong 50 minutes and them fresh legs.It is a team game

Can only compliment the players attitude and I think even the management for all intents and purposes admitting the error of their ways and going back to basics.
Great performance, can't be getting too carried away. We have had similar in the last 5 years or so and still been found wanting (Mayo in Super 8s for example then we went defensive in final).
All about keeping it going now. To be honest, not too concerned about the result next week in Thurles - obviously would love the win but main thing is securing div 1 in this strange set up. Especially seeing as we can't even defend the bleedin' thing if we get into the final!
Galway have a lot to be worried about. A few heavy defeats and poor performances since they ran us close last year.

Diarmuid O’Connor, Adrian Spillane and Paul O’Shea all in the mix. All bring different qualities and maybe weaknesses so it will be interesting.

Anyone have any information on the absentees on Saturday? I think someone said Ryan was being assessed on Tuesday. Tom O’Sullivan and Tony Brosnan were flagged as being out beforehand, I wonder what’s the timescale on their knocks/injuries? Also what’s the story with Sherwood, O’Brien and O’Donoghue, are they injured or is it some form of squad management? As we saw last year, if a player misses a couple of games it can be hard to break back in so it’d be great if they’ll be available soon.

I'm more afraid of Kerry beating Dublin next week than Kerry losing yo Dublin. Several media pundits choosing to ignore Galways no show and hype up Kerry no end. Claiming the scalp of whatever Dublin team is put out next week, will only increase the hype and give the Dubs the motivational food and ammunition they will be craving later in the year. Considering we cant make a league final even if we qualify - it clashes with the Clare c'ship game and in that case it would be joint winners, rather bizarrely - what are the merits in going all out next weekend? Who gains more from that, Dublin or Kerry? Just throwing it out there. Should we for example try Diarmuid OC in midfield or a few others here and there. I wonder were the other counties consulted about this. Even if Kerry are agreeable, us qualifying for the league final also denies the other group winner a chance to win it outright. Also, would both counties receive medals in that event?

A worrying feature of our display last Saturday was we failed to win too many of our kicksout when we went long. I acknowledge that excuses could be made on the grounds that we had a new goalkeeper but this weakness has become a distressingly, recurring theme for us. Dublin will crucify us if we replicate that profligacy next weekend.

Dublin will crucify us if we replicate that profligacy next weekend. Definitely concerning considering Galway weren't exactly all that hectic in terms of putting pressure on the kick-out. Dublin absolutely murdered Roscommon when Roscommon went long on their kickout. Given Kealy was named on the subs bench, I think it's fair to say Kerry were only going with two keepers [Ryan and Fitzgibbon] in the squad. Seems a rather strange decision given that every coach and physio in the land was warning about the increased risk of players picking up injuries due to the long layoff - you can at least rejig with players out the field but you can't do it with a keeper. If ever there was a year to have a 3rd sub keeper it was surely this one. Also worth bearing in mind that the odds of having to use your sub keeper are probably a bit higher with the new rule in relation to black cards and goal-scoring chances. I'd imagine it won't be long before we see a keeper black carded given 10 minutes in the bin and someone else having to go in goals to face the penalty. You would think the logical thing to do would be call in a keeper straight away given Ryan is supposed out for a few weeks but given management's past actions, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. The Dublin keeper Shiel who played in the Roscommon game was their third choice. Comerford was injured on Friday and Cluxton was rested. Will be interesting to see who is between the sticks on Sunday.

Great to have football back and great to be treated to a league performance such as this by Kerry.
Very little to criticise in the performance and the forward movement and tracking of players was outstanding to a man. The benefits to having players in their natural positions (bar Paul Geaney) was clear to see. Yes, Galway were poor but they were made to look extremely poor and the hunger and passion shown after each score and turnover marks a team eager to make up for last year.
The game on Sunday presents a new barometer to be measured against. The mobility of our midfield will be sorely tested and there will be no hiding place for young Fitzgibbon. The poor lad didn't manage to look good despite the armchair ride he was afforded but hopefully he has cleared the dirty diesel from the system.
I liked the look of our full back line the last day and it seemed like we had corner backs who were looking at performing their primary duty before worrying about anything else. Could this be the year that O'Beaglaoich cements a place? Looked good and hardy on Saturday.
Our forwards asked every question of Galway and left another 4/5 goals out on the pitch. The intelligence and composure shown by all (especially Sean O'Shea in a sublime display of orchestration) was a joy to behold. The only minor grievance was the positioning and subsequent performance of Paul Geaney whose contribution was restricted to giving away frees. He is much better served closer to goals and hopefully we have other more suitable candidates trialed there on the weekend (maybe a baptism of fire for Paul O'Shea who looks very relaxed on the ball and very languid).
Onwards and upwards and hopefully our management sort out the goalkeeper situation as well as it smacks a bit of amateur hour. Even then, minor quibble considering the display they served up for us after the long winter.

Throughout the years every time Kerry played magnificently it was always the frailty of the opposition. Sometimes when a team hits form it can make the opposition look terrible. Kerry on song can cut any team to shreds. I realise we were given space but if Dublin wallop teams it’s usually their brilliance. It’s beginning to take on the narrative of Kerry winning the soft All Ireland
Just my opinion

That is why we got to follow it up in Thurles. I have always felt this Dublin team is not the greatest of all time, so a reasonable Kerry team should beat them. So roll on Sunday!!!

I'm very possibly wrong, but I think it could be over 11 years since we've beaten Dublin by more than 1 point. 1 point wins provide no reason to rejoice imo. We need to arrive on the scene.
Kerry are never going to go into the championship under the radar. I'd like to see us drive on hard.

I watched the game again there Sunday Night.GaaGo is great in that sense. Dara Moynihan was involved in some amount of work. Saw he got a knock towards the end and limped off. I hope he's fit for the Dubs.On another matter, do we have any idea when spectators will be able to attend games? It would have been a great boost for supporters to witness the last day's match.

I don’t think any of our starting half-forwards scored from play. Against such weak opposition, that is a concern. I know the work rate of Moynihan and O’Shea was impressive and they set up a lot of scores, but you need a contribution on the scoreboard from a half-forward line.

A one point win next Sunday or later in the championship against Dublin, should that occur, will suit me fine. The point I'm making might be more understandable using Boxing terminology. A boxer's career is defined by wins, wins by KO, and losses. While a boxer might win a fight on points, wins by KO are regarded as more significant. In football, I'd consider a 5 points (or more) win as a KO. Our 1 or 2 point wins against Dublin in the last 10 - 12 years are of course wins but if we are to consider ourselves as heavyweights, we need to register a knockout.

A championship win by one point over Dublin this year would constitute a knockout for me. In fact that is what it means in every sense . No getting up of the canvas for the Dubs in 2021. They may seek a rematch in 2022 but that is a problem for another year.
