I think I'll be watching the hurling. Can we still make Croke Park with the hurlers?

Is this the first year the Kerry manager has not reach a final as an inter county manager? Cork were the physical better team in the end. Kerry were tired hence some stupid mistakes. Will there be some few retirement now?

I'm amazed he got this far tbh. 3 All-Irelands, fair enough but their last success was 12 years ago. They've haven't seriously threatened since; just one final appearance which kind of fell into their lap and which they were never going to win. No National League title since 2003, they've been relegated on a couple of occasions. That's a long time without any sort of success. Would a manager in any other serious County have lasted anywhere near as long? I thought he would have gone after Killarney 2012, would have been a natural end.

Out of respect for his achievements he was given a very generous three year extension in 2017 - at that time there was serious discontent about him continueing in the role and the knives appeared out for him. To further extend due to the strange year that is 2020 would be pushing it as he has not delivered success - the AI final appearance was a positive fluke rather than a steady build that promised a new era of success. Personally I would like him to stay as I think Tyrone could be more dangerous with a new man in charge.

To my mind, Mickey Harte deserves to go out on his own terms. Tyrone had no All-Ireland prior to Mickey being appointed manager and now the county has 3. That is an incredible feat. That 2003 and 2005 team were as good a team as have ever graced Croke Park. The 2008 version perhaps not quite as good but still good enough to beat Kerry. From 2010 onwards Mickey had to rebuild again and let's be honest, the calibre of players he had to work with weren't of the same quality as before. Plus we in Kerry know full well what it's like to be in competition with Dublin who are arguably the greatest team to ever play the game. He has consistently got his team to semi finals and a final which is about as good as any manager could do given the level of opposition and the tools at his disposal. This year he had to go to Ballybofey and came within a kick of a ball of beating an excellent Donegal team. The problem was that it's straight knockout. For the first time in a long time, Tyrone look to have excellent quality in attack. I would love to see a forward line of Donnelly, McKenna,McShane, Canavan, McCurry and Bradley. On paper that is as good a forward line as there is in Ireland. The injury to McShane was a hammer blow. No manager would do better with that set of Tyrone players than Mickey Harte has done in my opinion. He is to Tyrone what Sean Boylan was to Meath- a Messiah. A man who turned around their county's fortunes and won All Ireland's. I sincerely hope he gets another year at least

MH is one of the few managers alive that took a county to its first all ireland. The comparison with Meath is valid too. Although Tyrone have more talent coming through. MH usually got his players to give of their best in the intersts of the team. No egos allowed.

Some i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed but looking forward to a Donegal and Dublin semi final clash.
Neither side are likely to rock up to a game in the intervening period and think its won before a ball is kicked by believing their own hype. Unlike Kerry last Sunday for example.
Donegal ruthlessly dismantled a truly inferior set of players today and are going places quick.

Kerry, got the league game team selection wrong versus us. We effectively sent down our second team having to acknowledge the war we faced against Tyrone and then possibly Armagh who have bullied us in a past life but not anymore. I always worry about Cavan and Down, when they get going they have an unbelievable confidence. I still havd nightmares about Linden, McCartin and Blaney from the 1991 Ulster final. We've never done three in a row either. Although Rochford has brought a style and confidence to Donegal with a hard edge when required.

The tried me on that and I told 'em I would when I first one of the Dgal diaspora anywhere change their colours and of course that will never happen. 'Tis worse they get the longer they are out of their natural habitat. Ah maybe Dessie Farrel's mammy is the exception and if an encounter I had with the good lady and her good man is anything to go by then Dessie is well bred from both sides to take life pretty serious - be jazus but they nearly ate me alive over a comment I made on here about their wee boyeen and that 'twas in a restaurant I met 'em and that they were just fed probably saved me on the night. Anyway Dgal looking good, if they get a top performance from every man and click as a team on the day, then the last team to take the Dubs in the championship could well be the next ones. The concern might not be so much the younger players but the veterans - e.g. will Neil McGee hold up. Also if Murphy is tactically blanked have Dgal a Plan B that will work and I'd be hopeful here. The Dubs mightn't be as solid and while there are a lot of variables, not least the weather, this could be the AI final, assuming it unfolds. Just seen bits of the Connaught final and while Mayo were dogged in heavyish ground conditions on the day, anything could happen and sure isn't that why we actually play the games, so we know who is better. It is Mayo we are talking about though and the only guarantee is that they will entertain. I believe they have is it 12 new recruits in as many months and which adds to the excitement and the future looks good with Connaught being strong on traditional skills. I haven't see Tipp but if Cork come through it would make for a very interesting semi. I also think Éamonn had a good game analysing the Connaught final from Thurles - went a layer deeper and it was clear he was a manger as opposed to just a player.

Galway put up a good fight just came up short against a very good Mayo side. Dublin turning on their class should reach the final in December. It is very hard to see any team stopping Dublin reaching ten in a row not to mind 6. Kerry were out muscled by Cork and Mayo will out muscle Cork. IMO can’t see too many additions to the Kerry panel next year and will stay doing the same things.

Donegal have a punchers chance I would say and its the only chance that anyone has against Dublin..... Mayo will in all likelihood make it to the final and will get well beat by the Dubs.

Donegal were massively impressive on Saturday, if Kerry had a display like that we would be over the moon. All this with Michael Murphy having a very average game by his standards. Very good bench also. They have improved from last year. This is the best team Donegal have ever had and they are still improving. As already stated Neil McGee may be a concern at this stage of his career, getting dirtier is also a sign he is losing a step. I expect them to beat Dublin who have not gotten out of 2nd gear yet and may be unable to do so when required. 4/1 are crazy odds.
Cork are better than what we are giving them credit for. Donegal/Cork final.

Their 2nd gear means they have beaten 2 div2 teams by 11 and 22 points!
Donegal will give them a rattle no doubt but would be a huge shock if they do which is sad!

Donegal are the only team left in the competition who might give Dublin a game - could see Donegal beating Dublin and losing to Mayo. Mayo are short odds to make it to yet another final and extend their losing streak if they meet Dublin - based on the Galway game I cannot see Mayo giving Dublin a game if they both make the final.

There is no doubt population and money , well spent, are significant factors in Dublin’s success. After watching the embarrassing effort made by Laois against Dublin on The Sunday Game I rechecked the composition of Division 1 for next season to confirm that , apart from Dublin, there will be no Leinster team in that division . Why? Have they thrown in the towel? Surely they can’t blame funds and population for that sad fact. Perhaps, rather than spend so much time caterwauling about Dublin’s advantages there should be an inquiry, an inquest at this stage I suppose, into the apparent collapse of football outside of Dublin in Leinster.

An idiocracy it is for sure, just like myself Vet! Still apart from a few blips, Meath were the only other real Div 1 team in Leinster and even taking hurling out of it, there remains an unexplained black hole. I suppose soccer and rugby would be comparatively stronger in Leinster and I'm thinking it is also the more urbanised province - in contrast Mayo, Kerry, Donegal, Cork, Tyrone and even Galway are the more rural I'd say and maybe it is that other Leinster counties need to look at how urban Dublin sprouted wings. More meat for that NK study but the focus must be on a solution and which would rocket the standard of the game with more consistency in terms of close encounters, i.e. no more Dublins vs Longfords.

"Do you want the North Kerry edition or the South Kerry edition" said the man from Kenya behind the counter.

Pity to see such a fine sportsman as Cormac Costello miss the semi final for such an innocuous offence.
