I don't post very often so I want to thank all the contributors on this page for making the season so enjoyable and informative. I cannot fault our lads for the sheer effort put in over the season. It was incredible. The young lads have been on some learning curve and adapted brilliantly each step of the way. It's a pity we didn't have composure in front of goals yesterday. If one of the goal chances went in the game would have been very different. I was very disappointed to see us concede the kickouts by giving the Dubs an extra man at the back. We let them carry the ball to our fifty with relative ease like the Tyrones and Donegals but that just doesn't work. Dublin managed that tactic with ease. I thought I was wrong at half time due to the scoreline but the second half showed the Dubs never felt the squeeze higher up the pitch and they won comfortably. Having said that maybe Keane knew we didn't have the fitness to pressure Dublin high up the pitch. I still think we should have gotten their faces from the off. I think both management and players were a little short on self belief that they could boss the game or win well. Hopefully that will come in time. Mar fhocail scoir, I am very grateful to be from Kerry. We are a mighty county for being at the business end year in year out and it gives us all so much to talk about and look forward to. Thanks again to all the posters here on this forum. Well done to the Dubs. Please God we'll be back! I got a bit of lip on this forum for persistently referring to kickouts and importance of strategy at both ends of the field. Seems I was right. Agree with kerrythekingdom. Also I thought D. Clifford was denied a penalty for a push/pull down in square in the second half.

Annascaul, seeing as how you really know your stuff and have anointed this current Dublin team, can you answer the below questions in relation to other great teams over the years:
How does the 3-in-a-row team Dublin team of 1897 -99 compare to the 3-in-a-row Dublin team of 1906 – 08? Please answer with reference to other 3-in-a-rows won by other counties, such as Kerry 1984 – 86 and Galway of the 60’s. Who was better - the Kerry team which achieved the double in 1913 – 14 or the Kerry team of our era in 2006 – 07 who achieved the same feat?
If you want to try the Honours paper, can you also do a comparison of the three other teams who achieved the 4 in-a-row before Dublin went one better last night? In your opinion, is Wexford’s 4 in-a-row more notable (or devalued) because it was achieved in an era of major change and upheaval in this country? I await these answers. P.S. if you can answer these I have loads more to ask.
Of course you can’t answer and neither can anybody else - objectively. As Veteran put it recently, who was a better hurler – Setanta or Shefflin? Plenty of articles will be written eulogising this Dublin team in the coming weeks and months, deservedly so. Dublin may very well be the GOAT in Gaelic football and I take my hat off to them. I never thought I would see a 5-in-a-row in such a competitive sport, played by amateurs for the love of the game and where they are from, but they have achieved something special. We are also living in a different era of sport here. It is now a “Squad game”.
Kerry got agonisingly close to the same feat with more or less the same 15 men for those five seasons. They also had to deal with arguably their best forward having a disastrous injury that year and a teak-tough defender having a career ending broken leg. The concept of “Sports Psychology” didn’t exist in that era. They lost by a point. Kerry were very unlucky in 1982. Dublin have been lucky. If the Ref (Deegan, I think) spots Bastic picking the ball off of the ground in the last minute of the game that was a tap-over free and (possibly) an All-Ireland to Mayo. Mayo certainly had their chances. Neither Kerry nor Dublin played well in 2015 IMO, but Dublin played a little better and came through on what was a horrible day for a game of football.
The “5” was never written in the stars but today it feels like the more they win the harder it will be for anyone to eventually beat them. We will see a few retirements but we also know that Dublin will have some great young players to step into the breach so they are going nowhere. Collectively they are still very fresh. They have a massive bank of big-game experience now and for me that was probably the biggest difference on the night – composure when it really mattered...
You are wrong when you say I really know my stuff. I make no such claims. However you are correct when you say "I can't" answer your questions. My view is based on no more than the fact that 5>4. Whilst that may not get to the truth, you can't get much more objective. So 5>3 in the last decade!

Dublin are having their “homecoming” in two weeks time.
Makes sense I guess. They have a chance to actually leave Dublin first.

Simplistic way of looking at it. There is no easy answer to that question when comparing teams over 125 years but you literally couldn’t wait to anoint Dublin. To be honest, I am embarrassed for you. Look 5>4 But 37> whatever Dublin have What do you want 4 won is better then 5 bought

So 5>3 in the last decade! Kerry were the team of the noughties in my eyes correct! Speaking of team of the decade, I believe there is no doubt who was the team of the decade for the 2010's; 7 all Ireland's in a decade has never been done in men's senior football has never been achieved before, absolute dominance at its finest. Personally for the 2010s it was a question of "what ifs" and if we did things differently would a specific outcome have changed (ie. 2011, maybe 2019 too). The high hopes though is that by the end of the decade a young Kerry team were able to go toe to toe with the dubs which hopefully leads to a more prominent 2020s, we shouldn't forget about our underage success; the highlight of our 2010s either. I'd wonder would many others opinions of the decade be similar.

Fairly disturbing video of a fight on Hill 16 on Twitter. Not good viewing but one Dublin man should be arrested for throwing a punch at what looks like a young lad. Thug of the highest order.

A video of all the huge referring decisions that went Dublin's way in Croke Park starting with BB's awarded free to win the Kildare Leinster championship tie in 2011 up to Muchan's steps yesterday would make interesting viewing.

Dublin have 5 in a row Kerry have 4 in a row (twice) Tyrone have 3. The turnover of players is relevant . 5 Kerry players won 8 medal, loads more won 7 between '75 & '86 on the field of play.

This is true. If Dublin lost this but came back to win 9 it would be 2022 and how many would be left from 2011?

Yes, i would love to see it I did not set the record but just how many steps did Murchan take? Nothing new in not getting the big calls against Dublin, just ask Kieran Donaghy?

If u don’t score goals against Dublin, u have no chance of beating them. You need to be hitting two goals.

Barry and Moran definitely had more of an influence in both games. Barry has searing pace. A bit more confidence with shooting and he will be a serious player.

Kerry must try to copy Dublin and hold possession till the simple point is on and the shot is being taken by SOS or DC or Killian etc . It must takes months of work. If Moran was playing for him he would not be the shooter but too often yesterday it was David that was taking the shot and i think its clear that he isnt clinical enough in that aspect. He played very well otherwise.

I suppose the consensus is that we weren't just quiet good enough yet, and yes, some may say we left it after us in the drawn game but you could say the same of Dublin - and that's the same for any drawn game.
The Dubs were too good yesterday and while people can point at the shortcomings, there will always be shortcomings when you lose. Look at our bright moments though - Geaneys fielding, etc.
I propose that the forum should agree a message of gratitude to the management and the panel for an amazing year - they give of so much and as the most ardent supporters we are in receipt of the fruits of their labours. A nice little gesture wouldn't cost anything and it would mean a lot, it is well deserved and I know it would be much appreciated. They have more to be disappointed about with all they have given and so it is timely. We could email TCB to pass it on. So if enough are for it I will take in upon myself to organise it. It is the least we can do. Hereunder is a suggested text and I'd favour signing our actual as opposed to screen names though that would be up to individuals. I don't think anyone should do it individually as it would be a torment. A week should be sufficient, I know Veteran & Co often come on a few days after a match. I'm happy to do it via PM and I will delete it once the message is sent. If anyone has an issue with privacy issue then maybe control can set up an account that prevents anyone seeing names?
To Peter Keane, The Kerry Team Management and Players Panel
As members of the Kerry GAA Internet Forum we would like to express our gratitude for the amazing year you gave us through your hard work and commitment.
There will be good days and bad, and fortunately there was far more good than bad. You surprised most and you should be proud that you made for the 3 best games of the Championship with displays that were typical Kerry class in the finest tradition.
From the bottom of each an every heart, thanks.
PS Feel free to suggest modifications to the text, it is vital that we make the effort, just like they did! It is the thought that counts and all in all we are not such a bad band of hoors! Ah we deserve a little clap in the back too, even if it has to be from ourselves!
Over to you folks.

They are also excellent in creating space for the shooter - not always legally per the rule book but normally not illegal enough to get the ref blowing against them. They block runners and markers as do other counties a lot more than we tend to.

My first reaction two weeks ago was we left the opportuniy slip. Lack of composure at vital stages cost us.
Dublin certainly learned more however our tactics baffled me. We effectively conceded all kick outs by placing Paul Murphy around the D. This allowed them control the tempo and manage the game which they are good at. I think we made it easy for them. I recall at least 3 occasions when we broke upfield but had to either turn back or slow down the momentum as there was nobody inside to take advantage. 15 on 15 would have been better.
I know we have a young side and they will learn from this. Composure at critical times and poor decision making cost us dearly. Having said that Dublin are a battle hardened oufit with an abundance of game managers in their ranks. We will get there too and improve after this.
Some of the point scoring in the first half by both sides was great to see.
Congrats to Dublin. Well dewerved.

I just looked back at the game and Yes was astounded by the quantity of scores we left behind . Felt like we were well beaten due to Dublin’s majority’s possession caused by concession of kick outs . But in Reality with 66 minutes gone we were looking for goal s exclusively that’s with s lot of time left s point would have been absolutely fine The 5 high ball s at the start were weird not sure how that idea came about they all went to Cluxton many were 5 v 2 in favor of Dublin Kicked way too close to Cluxton and made him look good But that’s not why we lost and credit that we changed an idea that was not working at all . The what if will go on for a few months yet Eamon Fitzmaurice must be saying lads I told ye it’s not so easy now is it .

Push up on Cluxton and you concede the sort of goal scored by Dublin in the first game. They obviously decided as a priority not to let Dublin score goals ....Paul Murphys positioning clearly pointed to that. The downside is that Dublin were able to build from the back from Cluxtons restarts and create openings for points which they took. Playing the long ball when Dublin had an extraman back didnt work and was unlikely to work. Still, if SOB had lobbed the ball across the goal for a tap in goal for PG Kerry would have been level and Dublin would have been rattled. The game turned then. SOB has been magnificent all year but his form dipped in the final two matches. Pity. Kerry are light years ahead tactically compared to 2017. There is a way to go yet in that department. Dublin are further down the road etc.
