A bit odd, but the only Kerry result that guarantees a specific position is: A one point loss for Kerry guarantees 2nd spot regardless of what occurs in the Mayo-Donegal game.
All other scorelines for Kerry depend on what happens in Castlebar for final positions. A draw or win for Kerry guarantees qualification alright but whether it's 1st or 2nd depends on the other game, likewise a loss of 2 or more points for Kerry could mean 2nd or 3rd position.

tickets.ie showing no tickets onsale...has it been like this all week or just today? ive none bought yet and will they be on sale at the game? I’d say that’s just online. Because they won’t be able to post them out to you on time. Like the Mayo and Donegal game actually says sold out. All the other games for the weekend say - “Sorry, tickets are no longer available online” Have you tried SuperValu?

Any update on paddy mcbreatty for donegal. If he is out, it will be a tough ask for donegal I think? Wouldn’t surprise me if this game ended in a draw Think kerry will win by 8+..

I am guessing not on sale now cause there was only a postal option. Went to buy some on wed and that was only option available. I would say you will get no bother in SuperValu, that is where I got them. I would be very surprised if sold out. Living here in Meath, don’t get the feel that there will be a massive turnout, hope I am wrong!

Forget about Saturday, it’s more what we might be doing on Wenesday night !!!
Am I correct in saying that we could end up playing Donegal again in the All Ireland series....TWICE! going through the GAA’s 2019 Official Guide and the section on Super 8 tie breaker rules. It states that in the event of teams finishing on equal points in a quarter final group, the tie shall be decided by 5 criteria in order..... the first 4 criteria being: 1. Where two Teams only are involved – the outcome of the meeting of the two Teams in the Group 2. Score difference 3. Highest Total Score For 4. Highest Total Goals For
So if Donegal and ourselves both win this weekend, we’re tied and as we drew the last day it would move on to:
2. Score difference - we’re currently +10 vs Donegal’s +9. So if Donegal win by a point more than us on Saturday, it goes onto: 3. Highest Total Score For - we’re currently tied on 48 points. If we score same aggregate score on Sat evening (albeit Donegal concede a point less in order for no.2 above to be a tie), then onto: 4. Highest Total Goals For - Donegal scored 2 goals v Meath vs our single goal v Mayo....so in the entirely plausible scenario that we close that gap on Sat, the rules clearly state we’d have to move on to the 5th and final tie breaker criteria; 5. A Play-Off !!!
So we’d have to play Donegal again to decide who would top the group.....and that playoff game would have to be played sometime between Saturday evening and Saturday week (10th Aug) when the first semifinal is scheduled! And in the event of both of us going on to win our respective semifinals.....we’d have to play them again in a Final !
I’m prob wrong somewhere there and apologies if someone else has posted about this earlier and I missed it but .......

That is a very good selection by management. I think there are only 8 players that will be playing their 5th championship game (if they line out like that). Almost every player needs the game because (a) they need the experience or (b) they are coming back after missing a game or 2 (Murphy, Moran). Peter has given a master class in mixing and matching players all summer. There will be mo complacency because almost every player has a point to prove.
The one exception to all of this is Stephen O'Brien but I don't believe he knows the meaning of complacent.

Discussing the team selection is a waste of time - we have to wait till Sunday to see who and how we line out.

As others have said it is pointless discussing the team selection as more than likely there will be changes. These dummy teams do detract from the excitement of the buildup as we are denied the opportunity of critiquing the selection which has always been part of the fun. Another likely byproduct of this new fashion is that media may give up on publishing these phantom selections which would be a pity. I hope something can be done about it. Mike Quirke has suggested that management guilty of this practice should be allowed a reduced number of subs for every change made to the published selection. Perhaps this punishment or some variation would put manners on management.
I would like to see JO’D get a run the next day if available. The most intriguing aspect of Peter’s selections to the dateis the non use of Tommy Walsh. As far as I can recall he has been on the match day panel for all games but has never been used. Apart from Brian Kelly he is possibly the only player in that bracket. Has Peter some secret plan for Tommy? If so , he would need to be getting his feet wet at this stage of the campaign.

There was a watered down suggestion that players who are named to start but then do not start are not allowed be brought on as substitutes.

People should get over the changes to teams - the issue is why the hell does a team need to be named in advance of the game at all. We keep hearing about the modern game being a 26 man game and I believe this to be true and the naming of a starting 15 is actually a distraction. The 26 man panel is all that should be named in the current squad environment. Naming a starting 15 should be kept within the squad. I am happy to see a team get any advantage (real or imagined) that they can in the run up to a game and all I care about is the outcome.

Playing week on week must produce a lot of niggles etc that may or may not clear in a day. It should be the 26 that are named with a blank page on the program for people to fill in if that's their won't. Times have moved on like open training sessions and paper hats naming a team is now a thing of the past. For example if PK named the team for the Donegal game minus Moran do you not think Donegal would've specifically designed a plan to attack our kickouts? As paidi said a grain of rice!

Croke Park has to be informed of the 26 man panel a certain number of hours before the game. Say 48 hours. This should then be made public information immediately. Using the squad numbers, 1 to 26, the starting team then need to be released say an hour before throw-in. If somebody gets hurt after that (in the warm up or whatever), tough luck - thats one of your subs used. Is that not too simple or am I missing something.

On a wet day , standing in the terrace in Austin Stack Park one is presented with a blank page on the match programme and iexpected to scribble down the names of the teams as they are called out on the PA. That suggestion will hardly win innovation of the year award.
Tiimes have moved on etc, time to dispense with this starting fifteen anachronism? Thankfully , our rugby brethren retain some respect for tradition and at the same time acknowledge the futility of naming dummy teams. Their teams are usually named approximately forty hours in advance and the only rare change on match day is an injury alteration which would have been well heralded in any case . Apart from respecting their supporters they are aware that a lot of people collect match programmes for nostalgic and historical record purposes. Currently, in the GAA these programmes are becoming increasingly worthless and it would be no surprise if people stopped buying them.
Saying that it is more important that a team finishes with fifteen and that the finishing fifteen are as important as the starting fifteen are no more than red herrings in this particular discussion.
In any case what is the advantage of these dummy teams? According to what I heard the dogs in the street knew early Sunday morning what the changes were going to be for the Mayo match. Hand on heart , can anybody say any of those changes caught Mayo on the hop and thereby had a significant impact on the match. Jim Gavin frequently makes alterations to his selected fifteen but generally it merely results in like for like alterations and does have any meaningful influence on the game.
People should be aware that because something has always been done in a particular way does not mean it has outlived its usefulness and change should be enacted merely to follow a fashion no matter how silly that fashion is. Further if I put my hand in my pocket and part with five euro, ten euro for All-Ireland final? , I expect to get what I paid for. That sounds like fair commerce with a dollop of respect thrown in, I do not expect to be dealt with by way of sleight of hand. That is the currency of the three card trick men who will shortly be coming to Listowel races.
Mike Quirke’s suggestion should be studied for unintended consequences etc and normality restored with this garbish of a fad consigned to a receptacle where garbish is usually stored. Innovations should be introduced only where it has been demonstrated that they have a value. This innovation has no apparent value therefore I want restored to me the pleasure of dissecting team selections , a delectation I have treasured for decades.

Thanks for that Kingdomson. So , needless to say , Dublin Joe saw what he wanted to see. It truly is shameless if he decided to ignore Frank McGlynn’s contribution to this incident. . Tomas clearly hit McGlynn on the back of the head but the force was minimal. I didn’t see McGlynn connecting with Tomás. It was handbags really. I disagree, from what I saw the Donegal player gave Tomás a right dig as he ran past (it was on the opposite side to Dublin Joes view). Tomás ran after Donegal lad and pushed him with outstretched arms on the shoulder neck area. It was not a strike.

my biggest worry from that video is the lack of marking from the kick out....the initial one went straight to an unmarked Donegal man. unforgivable at such a crucial moment. i count at least 8 men with their backs to the play and a couple more ball watching, i hope this was picked up on video work and stamped out. if Tomas was watching the keeper , he wouldnt have got involved with his man. The kick out that lead the last equalizing point was worse as our players had a chance to compose themselves after the red card delay.

What isn't in the clip of this incident but I could see from the stand is that Tommy Griffin gave a solid minute in Tomás o Sé's ear before he ever took to the field, it didn't end there, Griffin ran into the field, and more instructions. Tomas gave McGlynn a "hello" when he got there and the rest kicked off from there. The boy was wound up too much coming on to the field.

Over anxious to get to "the pace of the game" often results in poor turnovers. Mark Griffin might be one who could use some relaxing techniques rather than getting hyped up. If I'm not mistaken, Bernard Brogan has great faith in yoga to control his breathing among other calming measures. In these days of sports science to the nth degree, getting the "controlled aggression" required is probably part of some backroom staff member/volunteer psychologist or whatever.
