It seems to me now that Mayo were nowhere near full pitch in Killarney. The two week break between the Meath and Donegal games for Mayo was worth so much to their energy levels that they appeared like a different team, completely rejuvenated. What an awful pity that it's the calendar of fixtures that will see them as having a disadvantage next Saturday as opposed to their ability as a footballing team.

I cannot fathom how 6/7 day turnarounds have been ratified . Remember the stink that was kicked up about provincial losers and 6 day turnarounds ? Now both teams coming through face their biggest match of the year in such a short period. I know Dublin’s predicament In this instance won’t inspire much sympathy but imagine if Cork or Roscommon had qualified similarly and faced such a short turnaround?

It seems to me now that Mayo were nowhere near full pitch in Killarney. Mayo defended very well on Saturday I wouldn't have said they were amazing tbh. What mayo have is the two best man markers in the country in Durcan and Keegan. Donegal are the perfect team for them to play as we have seen they are pretty close to a two man team with Murphy and McHugh limit them and it shows that outside of them they are limited enough. I think mayo would beat Tyrone handy enough for a similar reason Keegan would take Donnelly and Durcan p.harte and that would be that. Dublin and ourselves are a different kettle of fish we have Clifford, geaney o Shea and o brien with other decent options like JOD and now spillane. Dublin have mannion o Callaghan Kilkenny etc and aren't reliant on 2 or 3 players to do everything and are harder to shut down as a result. As bad as Donegal played they were still fairly competitive if that game was in croke park I think that game could have gone the other way.

Pillar Caffrey was interviewed on Off the Ball last night. He spoke of how the day of the 2011 final, he was working (as a Guard) in Croke Park that day and one of his roles was to escort the ref from the field. Pillar says he went onto the pitch, told him what a great game he had and escorted him off the pitch!

I know Dublin’s predicament In this instance won’t inspire much sympathy but imagine if Cork or Roscommon had qualified similarly and faced such a short turnaround? Yeah I cannot understand this. Considering the tweaks made from last year, this should have been top priority. It gives the semis no real build up either. And gives little time for fans to go a bit mad decorating the towns and villages, painting sheep etc.

Seems they had three Super 8 rounds plus a semifinals weekend.
Two choices:
a) Play 2 Super Rounds in consecutive weeks, a week off, Rd 3 and semifinals in consecutive weeks
b) Play 3 Super 8 rounds in consecutive weeks, a week off then semifinals.
They went with a) to give everybody a week off before Rd 3 of Super 8's. Would Mayo have been able to take Donegal if it was their fourth game in 4 weeks?
As I previously noted, the hurling finals could be on this weekend (11 Aug) with the football semifinals on 17 and 18 Aug. and final still on Sept 1.
Should be easy enough to fix and sell another three years of Super 8's at Congress or wherever these things get voted on.

Looking forward to this one. Dublin haven't had a competitive championship game since the 2017 final. They looked ropey enough against Meath in the Leinster final and Cork in the Super 8s for large chucks of those games. The Mayo players will love going over to Croker tomorrow evening. Battle scarred, battle mutilated last chance saloon etc for a large cohort of them they actually have nothing to lose or gain from the weekend. The perfect storm to go feral with abandonment. The first hand of history waves over the Dublin this weekend, lets see what emerges from under the shadow. This tie is box office, blue chip championship football. A must watch event.

Mayo are in with a great chance of pulling off a shock today.
One thing that has surprised me is that Dublin never seem to try to build up an early lead. O'Callaghan may sometimes burrow through for a goal but not other than that. So today's game could be an arm wrestle for 60 minutes. Then if Mayo have a plan to prevent the deluge of goals that Dublin think they have a God given right to get, any result could emerge.

So who’s going to be the new Seamus Darby, stopping the 5 in a row?

This is so true, I don't know the stats on this but if I was told that after 10 minutes that Dublin were behind on the scoreboard in 80% of their matches I would not be surprised, McCaffrey or James McCarthy will make an odd dart up the field but for the first quarter of the match they will not wholeheartedly commit to attack. They will allow the opposition to blow themselves out before they turn the screw. Teams have 2 options for how to deal with this, (1) go all out from the start, try and build up a lead and work flat out for the remainder of the day trying to maintain that lead and possibly work on building it, Or, (2) conserve energy at the start of the match and be ready to go to war with Dublin when they bring it. Either way there's no easy option. Both involve hard work, but it's possible.

It seems to me now that Mayo were nowhere near full pitch in Killarney. We will find out in s few hours what merit is in that. Mayo intensity was at a fever pitch alright but the quality is in question. Nationally Kerry’s Killarney performance has been downgraded to being dismissed because of the Mayo hype. Dublin by 7.

Mayo matches are uncallable. They have my respect since they beat Kerry in 2017. But it's a maelstrom.

Anyone else notice while watching the Cork/Mayo minor match that the entirety of sections 305 and 306 are reserved for Dublin supporters, with the Mayo supporters in 304 and 307. That not fair imo. I would not be happy if I were f##ced to the side to make way in this way 😡

Its half time and Mayo have deployed their best marker- Keegan - on O'Callaghan so no goal was burrowed out. Now for test 2 between 60 & 80 minutes.

They won't be beaten this year. Not if they play like they did in the third quarter of this match.
