This has all the makings of a cracking game. Its nice to be meeting someone other than Dublin. It'll be a serious test but i think if its a dry day we can really cut loose. FF line of Walsh,Clifford,JOD would scare the bejasus out of most defenders.

Very pleasing to make the final. I would have settled for three wins and ending up mid-table.
Hopefully a few more lessons in victory or defeat before the weather turns warmer to set up a good championship 2019.
This will be as big a test we have until Super 8 action as Munster Championship could be a not very useful exercise.
Hopefully Kerry and Mayo will both play to win, resulting in as good a game as any in the league this year and provide a solid foundation for both teams going forward.

Please ditch the beige number this time. The last thing i want to see is a Kerry team wearing that awful black&tan jersey inside in Croke Park. There's no luck in it either. The original jersey or optional Munster blue should be the choice. In any case since Kerry topped the table they should be given home team status and wear our home jersey and let Mayo change.

The news that Tyrone beat Galway today pleased me greatly and it meant that Kerry will play Mayo next Sunday.
This is exactly the challenge this Kerry team now.
The week ahead weather wise is very good so next Sunday is a day to look forward to and Limerick v Waterford will be a tasty appetiser.

What's David Moran's status? Would be a big help to see him available for this match.

This should be a high Spring intensity game where surely both counties will go at it. Mayo have qualified for the League Final while rotating their team all through the league which is very impressive. I think Kerry would have beaten both Tyrone & Galway in a league final pairing, this will be a different ball game with Mayo in town and is probably a 50/50 call. Mayo still remain the real deal as championship contenders and we'll see this on Sunday. Hopefully we'll be sparred the Star Trek jerseys on Sunday, hopefully both county boards will be in contact during the week and discuss the jersey clash. When we go to Croker we want to see Kerry in some form of Green & Gold..................

Sunday's final is important psychologically for both teams - it could be argued that even more so for Mayo as this crop of players are without a National title of any description. It is 2000/01 since Mayo last won the league and they have lost three league finals since(2007, 2010, 2012). Kerry won't want to let Mayo away with thinking that they have the measure of us and losing on Sunday would give them a sense that they have our measure with recent results. It would also mean they have two victories in a row over us in Croke Park and this would give them confidence aplenty ahead of the summer. The only saving grace for Kerry would be that this is an emerging side as compared to Mayo being closer to the end (at least for this bunch of players).
That said I believe Kerry are capable of winning and it will be interesting to see what the teams learned from the recent defeat in Tralee where several underperformed. The midfield battle (and the middle 8) will be of particular interest.
In terms of the roll of honour Kerry lead the way with 20 league titles (6 final losses), followed by Dublin with 13 titles (and 13 final defeats) with Mayo third with 11 titles (7 final losses).

Expect a real battle here, hopefully the weather will be good and we can play to our strengths. Great test ahead of the summer. What an opening campaign by PK way above my expectations anyway!

There were 2 connacht fbd league matches decided on penalties earlier this year. Mayo played in both matches. That was a local rule for the fbd league. As far as I know it's still a free kick shootout in the league if level after extra time.

Mayo has had the upper hand in recent times in this fixture against Kerry. Apart from regularly beating us in the league, during the replayed AI semi-final of 2017 they completely dominated us in Croke Park after physically first imposing their will. They swaggered around like a team who truly believed they were just a batter side and proved it emphatically on the day. They proved themselves to be a better-conditioned and stronger team and much further done the road in terms of tactical experience and development and bullied us accordingly.
This young Kerry are not ready yet to win a physical battle with Mayo as our young lads are still developing and this doesn’t happen overnight, it will take a couple of seasons. However, this doesn’t mean we can’t win this match. A dry calm day would certainly help and to keep this game as spread out and open as possible and playing to our strengths which is to kick ball as early and often as possible into our full forward line. No point running into physical walls with these Mayo fellas it will eventually just wear us down. I think Kerry would need the experience and size of David Moran for some bit in midfield to gain some parity otherwise it will be a tough day at the office in that sector.
It will be interesting to see who the referee is for Sunday? Mayo is such a popular team with the general public and most outside there own counties would love to see them win the Holy Grail and even a National League title at this stage. Kerry who historically has won so much you’d have to wonder if subconsciously it affects officials. A bit of jostling and shouldering is of course part of our game but I don’t know any rule where you are allowed to put both hands up and physically push an opponent away during a throw in. Yet in our recent Tralee match Aidan O’Shea got away with this right in front of the watching referee repeatedly with no rebuke, no free, no card – this set the tone for Mayo’s across the line at times physical approach. It will be interesting to see if Aidan gets away with this again in Croke Park and we know his going to chance and test the temperature of the officials from the off for his teammates. If Aidan does get away with this like in Tralee, it will tell us a lot about where the match officials’ sympathies lie and this will make our assignment even tougher. Mayo are so seasoned and so cute at this stage and they’ll take every advantage going.
PS: David Moran a loss for this one if his out for sure? Even 1/2 hr from this man could be invaluable off the bench.

Great test now in Croke Park against a resurgent and physical Mayo team.Win and our summer is well set up.Lose and there'll be areas to work on.Think management will go with panel that got them there. Nothing to be gained by chopping fellas in and out with only 1 game to play.

Same with Colm Boyle and his kamikaze tackling.

It will be interesting to see if we cope better with O’Shea and Ruane In midfield than we did last week. O’Shea seemed to have a good game again yesterday from the limited highlights shown last night. The wider spaces of Croke Park don’t suit him as much and we need to exploit his lack of pace the way Dublin have done. We also need to track the runs of Ruane better than we did in Tralee. If we manage both of those then we will be well on our way. I don’t see the team changing much from yesterday. Gavin O’Brien may come back in esp if Kevin McCarthy is injured. Morley and O’Beaglaoich could also be in contention in defense and Peter may look at Griffin again for physicality in midfield but he hasn’t been overly impressive to date.
