As I said elsewhere on the forum, part of me thinks that as opposed to Dublin coming back to the chasing pack in terms of inter-county standard, I believe that if the gap is to be closed, then most of it will be with other counties raising their game.
And what has this to do with Club Management you might say.
Well for one it require take more resources and so more money, so less of the pool will be available to clubs. Of course it is not a clear cut issue and Kerry may be somewhat of an exception in that we lead the chasing pack, and principally because of our strong Gaelic Football culture combined with having a prosperous secure sponsor that can feed the system.
My conclusion is that the overall gap between the top and the bottom will get bigger. Despite the 5 in a row minor pipeline, there is no certainty that we or indeed any other county can topple the current Dublin team and while it may be a vintage crop, they also have a strong pipeline from their development program, hence my contention that their standard won't fall over the edge any time soon.
My guess, and a guess it is, is that we will be the next team to beat them and it will be when half of our team achieve greatness, i.e. you need 1 or 2 on each line. I believe we are approaching that with the likes of Clifford, Tom Sullivan, the Crowleys, Gavin White, Kevin McCarthy and Sean O'Shea being examples, and along with the likes of seasoned Paul Murphy and Mike Geaney. I note that Ballydonoghue's Jason Foley is now a bigger man and hopefully he is now also poised for greatness.
And now talking of The Kerry Ingredient, wouldn't matchmaker Dan Paddy Andy be proud of who ever introduced Paul Geaney and Siun Ni/Ó Sé. That Christening sure put too some weight of expectation on the shoulders of Páidí 2.0? Ah he'll carry it no doubt, hopefully - deadly stuff! Congrats to the trio on their big day, but ye won't forget the master plan here? Siun said son Páidí had a firm grip of her hand walking up the isle, so the omens are good. And we have no worries but this is where the giving away ends with Unc Páidí being the miser of misers in Croker!
Now all I have to do is the small job of cutting what is the next generational chapter into my work Ventry Harboured, or is it Harboured Thoughts?
Ballythefireside quote of the day - Amazing fact limits the scope of creative writing.

absolutely. Offaly would probably have reached the 2018 All Ireland final otherwise and would stop the 5inarow for Dublin in 2019. 🤣
