Poor league overall but youth had to get it's fling. I think Jason Foley Ronan Shanahan Mike Burns Daithi Casey Sean O'Shea and David Clifford will be close to starting in the Championship.
Midfield is a problem area for the Summer. Goalkeeper could go either way. No.6 is also a big problem and picking up the runners again is a big issue. Teams now no that if you run down the middle against Kerry you will have a good chance of winning.
Fitzmaurice has not fixed it and it will be our downfall again this year. It's hard to see anyone beating Dublin again. Will Galway and Monaghan carry their form into the championship. Has Mayo got the hunger for another shot this year. They have a tough game against Galway to get over first.

Not surprised by that, it is not in his makeup to restart off the cuff. You're right KG, its not in his make-up and its a real negative I believe. You can have all the movement out field you like but if the goal keeper is confused by movement and can only hit a static target, then kickout 'strategies' are junior infant level. Our restart was pedestrian at best yesterday and its simply not good enough. He's a good shot stopper but not much more than that. On the evidence of the league, Shane Murphy brings a lot more. Shane Ryan would also I believe but that's another story. one is a decent shot stopper the other has kicking potential but shot stopping looks questionable on evidence from this years NFL. What ever way you look at it it looks like a weak point come championship time. The goal keeping thing has been rumbling on now for 3-4 years.

We have the genuine complaints that for a number of games, our fullback was exposed by lack of proper cover, don't forget that our goalkeepers were exposed for the same reason. The problems throughout are glaringly obvious, it's down to management to fix them. In the league I expect experimentation, the more the merrier I would suggest, learning the lessons is what really matters.

Meant to highlight in my earlier post the ongoing issue of the roaming goalkeeper. It happened again on Sunday. And once again every Kerry player stood off him and let him storm up the field. That's five matches in a row.

A lot of these issues boil down to a single issue in my book. Fitness and conditioning 1.not enough movement for keepers especially in second half 2.not tracking runners thru the middle 3. Not picking up enough breaks 4.lack of shape particularly in 2nd half v dublin and tyrone

That's five matches in a row. I’m pretty sure the idea here is if you rush in on the goalkeeper he’s just going to pop it over the tacklers head and a corner back is free to tear up the field. If the goalkeeper is left have it they are less likely to go all the way up the field and more likely to get nervous on the ball

I think Morgan just gave the ball away in the end anyway.

That's five matches in a row. Wouldn't be top of my problem list, tbh. This is only a fad with keepers. Sooner or later one is going to get caught out and that will be the end of it. It's very unlikely that the roaming keeper will do any real damage anyway and he'll inevitably just turn back. Meanwhile, as they say - "layve im off".

Who else could take long range frees today? And score them? I've always wondered why teams don't use frees and 45s as an opportunity to just manufacture a simple score via a rehearsed "set-play". Everyone drops their heads and waits for a guy to either kick a point or kick it wide (or worse, into a keepers hands). Have a handful of rehearsed 'plays' and drop them into the game every now and again. Make the opposition think. If we are short on accurate long range kickers, then this makes sense to try out in Munster Championship.... People may balk at the prospect of messing around with this stuff in Munster championship but this will likely be a lot less competitive that the recent league campaign.

I think that the point being made is why are Kerry not the ones to do the 'catching out'? Forcing the mistake from the roaming keeper or at the very least give him a scare, and then doing our best to capitalise? We have form in this regard albeit slightly closer to the goal line-see 1978 and 2014 All Irelands......

I don’t think Cluxton with will be roaming too much again ,against kerry a few weeks back he put two solos over his head and then lost control of the ball at the side line , but yes when ever the keeper is off his line the light bulb should automatically go on and we should look to punish that fast unlike the last day. Regarding set pieces free kicks restarts , throw ball restart I think one person in the coaching/management staff should be designated to this vital area another member should be the defensive coach the midfield is so involved now that they definitely need one person for them and then a forwards coach All while being managed by the Manager with the final say . In this way there is responsibility and accountability for each fascet of the team. Instead of everyone trying to do a little bit of everything and not drilling down into any one particular area.Every area now is a specialty . I d like to See Mike Sheehy and Maurice Fitz doing more hands on coaching the word selector is dated I feel . I’d like to see more specialized coaching with maybe Liam Hasset doing defensive coaching but keeping him there as a focused area of the field and maybe getting a different runner on game day with more conposure. Can you imagine Fitzy managing the forwards on game day from the sideline I think it would be inspirational instead of using him removed from the play up in the stands !!

Tongue in cheek, maybe this is the answer to the Shane Ryan problem. Put him in goal and let him storm upfield to the forward line and score goals!

The Dubs would love that. They would probably part the blue sea in an accommodating manner and then ambush him around the D. There'd be more than the smell of a burning cake...................!
