Glenbeigh, Mary’s, Glenflesk and Spa to make semi finals. A lot of strong contenders in this year’s championship without any standout team. Templenoe v Spa group game could decide who wins the whole thing out

According to Templenoe on Twitter Templenoe will play Spa in the final game in Templenoe.

Group 1 ; Glenbrigh Group 2 ; Marys Group 3 ; Glenflesk Group 4 ; Hard to separate Templenoe and Spa. Home advantage swings me towards Templenoe Relegation will eventually come down to a battle between the north Kerry teams of Brosna and Desmonds

lads - I like this format but is it going to add to fixture congestion? 2017 intermediate championship 8 teams played 1 game 4 teams played 2 games 2 teams played 3 games 2 teams played 4 games 2018 championship 8 2nd/3rd placed teams will play 3 games 4 group winners will play 4-5 games 4 last place teams will play 4-5 games when you factor in relegation playoffs Plus all these extra games are condensed in to a much shorter space of time. Congestion might be an understatement.

I imagine hurling wont cease in that period. is there a clash with county hurling?

Why not have a losers round similar to the senior championship then? At least teams would get a second bite at it. Not sure if the new system will work but time will tell. Realistically if you lose the first game you are more or less out or at the very least would need a huge amount of luck to still finish top. Could be a lot of dead rubber games by the third and final game with a lot of teams definitely out at that stage.
il go Glenbeigh, Mitchels, Glenflesk and Templenoe to finish top.
What is the story with relegation? Is the old format - lowest county league position gone or still there?

Open to correction but I believe bottom 4 teams play off in 2 semis and a final...obviously 2 semi winners are safe and the "final" - the loser of that is relegated...
That's as I understand it - think the co league position is gone
My bottom 4 would be Brosna, Dromid, Laune Rangers or Waterville and Gneevguilla

That’s correct - county league positions are now irrelevant - bottom team in each group will fight for survival.

Some brilliant looking ties there, Group 1 is very tight, I think each team is capable of beating each other. Wouldnt like to make a call on it. Group 2, id say the winner of the Mitchels,Ardfert game will top the group. Might be a big call to rule out the Marys but they are on the go a long time and not as strong as they were a year ago. Dromid are low on numbers and have a good few injuries at the moment. Group 3, Desmonds to win out the group I think. Laune Rangers are a hardy championship team though. Waterville very low on numbers this year, had to get a few players back playing who hadnt played for a while. Group 4, another really tight group. You would imagine that Templenoe with their county players back should be just about good enough to go through. County players can be a hindrence though at times, especially if the other players have a system going and are used to playing without them. All in all a very competitive looking championship, dont think you could really say theres any teams that stand head and shoulders above the rest

Difficult to call. I expect a lot of close matches. Injuries to key players could move potential champions into relegation playoffs.
Group 1: Winner Glenbeigh. Relegation Brosna. First Round Glenbeigh & Milltown. Group 2: Winner Mitchels. Relegation Dromid. First Round Mitchels & Marys Group 3: Winner Desmonds. Relegation Waterville. First Round Desmonds & Laune Rangers Group 4: Winner Templenoe. Relegation Gneeveguilla. First Round Templenoe & Spa.

I think Kilcummin will come out of group 1 but also think Milltown could cause an upset especially under new manager Paul Fitzmaurice

Group 1 Kilcummin v Glenbeigh/Glencar; Brosna v Milltown/Castlemaine Group 2 St. Mary’s v Dromid Pearses; Ardfert v John Mitchels Group 3 Laune Rangers v Waterville; Glenflesk v Castleisland Desmonds Group 4 Templenoe v Currow; Spa v Gneeveguilla
Predictions for opening round
Group 1 Glenbeigh (just but would not be surprised if Kilcummin won) & Milltown Castlemaine (in another tight encounter) Group 2 St Mary's & Mitchels (Ardfert & Mitchels could be tie of the round) Group 3 Waterville (in a tight game) & Desmonds (would not be surprised by a draw here) Group 4 Templenoe & Spa

I really think glenbeigh/Glencar should be fancied Gavan O Grady is back from injury and meant to be in top form don’t think there’s a back around to mark him also with the likes of pa Kilkenny and Darran O Sullivan I think they shouldn’t be overlooked

I hear that Brosna are using Milltown as they only team they can beat to avoid relegation should be a feisty encounter

I think the game of the weekend will be tomorrow evenings encounter between ardfert and John mitchels in my opinion it has all the signs to be a fiery close contest. I was at the same match out in ardfert last year and ardfert really bullied mitchels both physically and mentally resulting in mitchels falling under the pressure on the day but this time around the home advantage is taken away from ardfert which will in my opinion reduce their influence, and their effect on the game may be limited and mitchels football may shine through. I believe it will be a very tight game but this time around I think mitchels might just edge it holding the motivation from last years defeat deep inside

Really think that game between Ardfert and Mitchels will be one to savour. Mitchells by a point 😄 Il be heading to see Waterville and Laune rangers in Caherciveen this evening as it's fine and close. Laune rangers should be too strong for Waterville who have a number of players away/injured/not commiting
