Just out of complete curiosity and given the recent outrage of burnout etc. What team would ye put out against Monaghan if we couldn't pick the Sigerson boys. I'm struggling big time. 1. B. Kelly 2. Cormac Coffey 3. Shane Enright 4. John Payne 5. Paul Murphy 6. Andrew Barry 7. Matthew Flaherty 8. Greg Horan 9. Brendan O'Sullivan 10. Daithi Casey 11. Michael Burns 12. Stephen O'Brien 13. Barry John Keane 14. Paul Geaney 15. Jack Savage Subs we would be very bare. With all the injuries, not going to be able to rest every Sigerson player but it's idotic to see the amount of football some players have played in the last two weeks alone and then the likes of Daithi Casey gets about 20 mins in the same period.

Plenty of us moan about refereeing errors in fairness.
Mayo fans however are in a league of their own and I can't help but think it seeps into the players.

Good result against Mayo. Some of your younger guys really looked comfortable on the ball. Geaney is class act. Enjoyable game to watch. I've rewatched the tackle on Regan a few times. It wasn't malicious but definitely dangerous ,although replay seemed to show Regan was caught high on shoulder not jaw. Possibly just badly timed in the heat of the moment. I guess if C o Connor done it to one of ours we would be furious and if Philly done it to anyone their would be uproar. But at the end of the day , Mayo are well able to hit and a bit ironic coming from Keegan. Keegan has so far declined Kerry's invitation to give a workshop on sportsmanship and fair hits. He's available for discus throwing lessons.

I supposed we'd be mad at the world too.....if we didn't/couldn't win the Sam Maguire now and then. I can understand supporters' frustration but Keegan throwing in his two bits is a bit much.

Is that Willie Joe Padden writing those articles and running that tunnel visioned blog or a different Willie Joe entirely?

Come on lads. If Sean OShea or Paul Murphy got that belt there would be a similar reaction from Kerry. Barry Moran delivered a two fisted charge to Brian O'Beaglaoich'a face. A far nastier challenge, but without the consequence. Nobody here is moaning about it. We gave out about McLoon's hit on Foley, but nobody called him a thug, looked for a boycott of the gaa, called for a trial, called for a petition etc. The comments section is an absolute cesspit. Scum and Thug are words being thrown about with abandon. I'd be ashamed if we had a reaction anywhere near as bad as that for a challenge that was hard and had unfortunate consequences.

While I agree- I do think that Kerry (and most counties’) fans apply some bit of critical analysis to s performance rather than looking for externals to blame. Last years semi final is a great example- grand Gough rode us a bit and allowed Mayo to bully us but there was an acceptance that they were the better team and that our management was well off the pace. Contrast that with 2014 in Limerick- James horan leaves Donaghy & JOD 2 on 2 inside and the boys are completely cleaning house- yet he makes no changes or efforts to rectify this. But sure no one in mayo bats an eyelid- it’s the ref, he was a b*llix and the venue was practically a home game for Kerry, etc.

Came here to say this after rewatching the game. Barry Moran's challenge was far more malicious and had far more intent than Shanahan. Anyone that has played the game knows that tackles like that can happen and Shanahan deserved his marching orders but to suggest that he be done for assault is just the sort of selective fury that has become part and parcel of GAA analysis.
Personally, I would have been more aggrieved about Jack Savages attempt at a tackle later on which was just reckless as well as being a bit cowardly.
Mayo GAA fans are being let down by these folk the same way that Kerry GAA fans have been let down by some comments from so called Kerry fans on players and management that goes far beyond the bounds of acceptable criticism at times. There are eijits in every county but we won't judge the county as a whole on the opinions of a few.
Our lads fronted up against Mayo and met fire with fire. Both sides were guilty of borderline tackles at times but that is the way things go. Either go full blooded or don't at all.

Its funny how via separate media outlets- Anthony Moyles, Oisin McConville & Colm Parkinson all said that Mayo set out to bully Kerry on Sunday and Kerry stood up to them. Parkinson and the others on his show also had a go at Cillian O Conoor for his constant and blatant diving in every match- this is all from 3 neutrals. People need to see that this howling of derision follows every Mayo loss and is just being fed by goons in the media who need to fill column inches. Watch back the last few mins of the game- the free at the very end that Savage gives away- Colm Boyle grabs him by the neck after and pulls him to the ground- so if this Mayo blogger wants to talk about assault! Also the very last kick of the game was from a free given away by Aidan O Shea for punching Eanna O Connor in the back of the head- Eanna was still holding his head after the game. This Mayo poor mouth, always downtrodden sh*te has gone on too longAlways the victims the poor craters. It's an awful mentality.

Just wondering when will they meet again. Lets assume Mayo and Kerry dont meet in the league final and Kerry win the munster final.
Galway play Mayo in Connacht QF. If Mayo lose that could they end up in either of the two super 8 groups if they come through the qualifiers.
another thing...has the old system of Munster playing Ulster every 3 years at semi final stage gone now.... It would have been munster v ulster in 2018 under the old system.

If Kerry and Mayo win their provincial championships this year, they will be in the same Super 8s group along with the beaten Leinster and Ulster finalists (or the team that beats the beaten finalists in R4 qualifiers). I'm still none the wiser how they will operate the home, away and neutral arrangements. I would assume to give the provincial winners some benefit, Kerry and Mayo would meet in the neutral venue (Croke Park) and Kerry and Mayo would play one of the teams coming through the qualifiers at home and the other one away.

I cant see Mayo winning Connacht nor do i think it interests them.
So they would be a wild card in one of the super 8 groups presumably.

That Mayo blog is typical Mayo: biased, whingeing, scapegoating, loser mentality. Funny how they try to claim that Shanahan's hit on Regan was a forearm smash or a closed fist, and try to prove it with a picture that clearly shows the outstretched arm and open hand. Anyone that tries to point this out gets shouted down or banned. We are all biased in favour of our own teams, but at least on here people can call a spade a spade.

I said before the league game Rochford must win Connacht for 2 reasons. First he needs it to survive. There is no guarantee he will win the AI this year and having managed the 2nd best team in the country for 3 years and no silverware to show, he could get the push.Secondly he needs it for his legacy. When the record shows 0 Connachts after 3 years he can't put an asterisk explaining that he was concentrating on the AI. I think Mayo will take Connacht very serious this year.

They are at it for 67 years, something else is always to blame. Unless they change their attitude and stop eulogizing a team who fail to get over the line, they will be losers for many more years. We can be cranky but it leads to success.

I mean look at what Willie Joe responded to a kerry fan calling him out. I just felt living here kerry people should get a more rounded view of the aren’t Mayo fans great. Living in the house of pain for so long has em growing more bitter and building up a victim mentality the more they fail Willie Joe I’m sure Evan will be touched by your good wishes. He’s no doubt used to being showered by such sentiments by Kerry folk seeing as it’s the second time in his inter-county career that he’s ended up in hospital with a broken bone following an extremely reckless challenge by a Kerry player aimed squarely at the man and not the ball. Put that in your “I mean it sincerely” yerra pipe and smoke it.

This Willie Joe is reminiscent of a cult leader without the charisma, the last thing those Mayo supporters need. He gives his warped opinion and they all follow in unison. In reality it killed them that a team of kids beat their heroes in both football and in the physical stakes on their own patch along with the very possibility of witnessing a great new Kerry dawning. But with many Mayo supporters reality is out of reach with a long time. Instead they took out their frustration on an unfortunate, unintentional incident. They have made Ronan Shanahan the culprit he never intended to be. If the shoe were on the other foot they would be whistling a far different tune.

Bad enough it exists on one site without republishing it here.

Anascaul is probably correct - the constant Mayo habit of blaming everybody but their players for their defeats - is affecting the team . The players no longer accept that maybe , just maybe they are not good enough , because they are brainwashed that everybody is against them . At this stage Mayo must be running out of Referees to blame and Willie Joe would be better employed in focusing on the short comings of the players instead of allowing no criticism of them - be it constructive or otherwise - and permitting disgraceful comments about the Refs. And last Saturday nights Ref wasn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last.

That was pure bad luck the contact and injury that Regan got. I hope he has a speedy recovery.
As regards referees I think Mayo got by far the majority of the decisions in the 2013 final, yet still blamed him. They got ridden in the second half of the 2014 replayed semi-final (though wouldn't have been an issue if they hadn't thrown it away the first day but still.......something about Mayo and Meathmen??). They got gifted by the ref back into a game where they deserved nothing in the 2015 drawn game (a terrible penalty decision, two very harsh black cards to major Dublin players which also left us down to 14, soft frees, and not to mention the fact COC did not get punished for an elbow to ROC's face early on which put Rory out of the game), and in the 2016 final replay they got very soft frees when chasing the game at the end.
They got alot of decisions from the ref in the 2013 semi-final. And they got away with god-awful cynical murder in the 2012 semi-final. They can have little complaints about the refs in the other major games that I know of.

So other than the game against Kerry in 2014, mayo have got the majority of decisions from referees in major games which by coincidence just happened to be against dublin. This thread had been ridiculous the last few days.

I stand by my opinion of those games, and have pointed out the reasons why on multiple occasions here. And as regards "the game against Kerry in 2014", there were two games, and I only mentioned Mayo getting poor decisions in the second half of the replay. Also my opinion about that is very up to date as I just watched the entirety of the second half.
I forgot about the games between Mayo and Kerry last year, I will need to watch them back, by memory from back then I think I felt Mayo got more of the decisions in one of the games. It happens that in fact, as you pointed out really, Mayo have played Dublin more times than any other team in championship the last few years (bar possibly Galway?) - 7 times since 2011. Kerry have played them 5 times.
By the by on review of the drawn game in 2014 I think Keegan's red card was very harsh, (though it actually helped Mayo), and Donnchadh Walsh was lucky to get away with two serious infractions, one of which may have been in the replay, memory failing me there.

It doesn't matter if they do or do not have bad luck with the referee: regardless some of their fans refuse to blame their own team and management.
