The U-20s are where they are. I don't know is anyone expecting to win the AI.Crazy stuff. The leaving certs are now playing u20 rather than minor as before. A higher demand on 17 year olds. I'm not sure if the u 17 grade will capture the public imagination. Time will tell. Finally some of the best u 20 players are not playing. After all the success at underage and colleges levels they are selling themselves very short if they are not aiming to win the AI. Kerrygold I have been told the same. Jack has fellows on the team that are not on their club teams in the lower divisions of the co. league. I was referring only to Clifford & O'Shea and the senior/u20 rule. Similar problems have cropped around the country such as in offaly where a player was withdrawn from the senior championship team to play u20 against his wishes.

Is Mark Ryan a brother of Shane? I'd be very interested to see how Diarmaid O'Connor gets on midfield. I thought he was excellent for the minors last year.

Has Barry O'Mahony gone the way of the small ball exclusively?
I am surprised Michael Slattery of Austin Stacks is not on the panel. Very impressive with u17 team last year.
Anybody missing because of,injury?
Because of the Limerick green jersey is there any danger the faded petticoats will get an airing? Give me the Munster blue before that awful garment.
In any case, looks a good outfit on paper.

Barry was an outstanding minor and seems to be an exceptional athlete. Playing with the county hurlers all year would harden a fellow up too.
He might feature as the competition goes on

I have seen Diarmuid O’Connor playing on a few occasions this year and can’t wait to see more of him at this level - he is an exciting player, great pace, two footed and possesses good hands - I believe that he has the ability to break into the Kerry senior panel in 2019.

I agree greengold Diarmuid O'Connor was an excellent minor. He should definitely play in the League with the Seniors next year. I'm surprised Mike Potts isn't staring wing back and Mike Breen corner back but Mike Reidy must be playing well.
Midfield is very strong. I agree yea Barry Mahoney and Mike Slattery are good players. Overall it's a strong team with a solid bench. I would expect a good win.

Unless you are colour blind then it can get tricky in fairness. I'd be getting very worried if there were any colour blind players playing.... Colour Blindness. Colour blindness (colour vision deficiency, or CVD) affects approximately 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women in the world. I know club colour blind players, it doesn't affect them they say. In relation to the Armagh suspensions their manager's remarks are an absolute disgrace. It's a strong looking Kerry team for this evening and it's fair to say that the quality of the players not starting and/or outside the panel is very impressive too. There is clearly ferocious competition for starting and panel positions. I hope the manager and selectors have got the balance right. Limerick were very impressive last year and probably should have beaten Kerry in Tralee. I know it's a whole new panel but I'd be wary. Safe travelling to all supporters.

Massive score put up by the u20s today any match reports? Hopefully veteran who imho should have his own match report thread! The two lads with the seniors could be a good thing means other leaders have to step up

Total mismatch in NCW tonight, Kerry racking up 11 points before Limerick got on the board. Hard to single out any one player for special mention; we looked eager and sharp all over the pitch, playing some lovely direct football. Limerick's number 8 and 6 competed well but otherwise their players couldn't get near the Kerry lads, who were able to do as they wanted and score at will. Realistically, this game was over after 10 minutes and Kerry led 1-17 to 0-3 at the break.
The second half continued in much the same vein and tbh it was difficult to stay interested after a while. Limerick's only scores in that half came in injury time. Promising and solid performance all round but you'd have to say the opposition just wasn't there. Okunbar looks an imposing presence at FB, not that he had much to do tonight. The attendance was given as just over 1200, which looked about right and seemed to be mostly Kerry.
Semi-final v Waterford next Friday in ASP. Unlikely Kerry will learn any more from that than they did this evening but what can you do? Things look good for now anyway.

Will the under 20 lads be playing senior county league with this club this weekend? No. Only the additional panel members are allowed to play. The way it's falling now clubs will be without the first 24 if you will for the next 6-8 weeks (If kerry keep progressing) from what I understand.

Kerry 1-30 Limerick 0-5 HT 1-17 0-3
Not unlike the seniors against Clare, this was an evening stroll on Ballybunion strand for our u20s. Similarly, not unlike the seniors we are still in the dark as to the merit of this team because Limerick were as impoverished as Clare was a couple of weeks ago. However, we must commend the team and management for excelling at the chore they were set last evening.
This was as comprehensive a performance as one could reasonably expect from any team. Heads up, quick, smart ball to moving, sophisticated forwards, man taken on or a lay off to on coming colleague and the inevitable score ensued. Points kicked from various angles and distances with the rhythm of a metronome. Thirty one scores in all. That is an average of a score every two minutes. Fantasy land. The rare time that Limerick got their hands on the ball and moved it ponderously forward their frail foray was quickly snuffed out by a defence with no apparent weakness on the night. In between the defence and attack Mark Ryan and Diarmuid O'Connor were the masters of midfield, in spite of the efforts of a game Rob Childs, either fielding securely or breaking down cleverly to a voracious half forward line.
After about fifteen minutes Kerry were approximately ten points in profit and one could have turned the car towards the Abbeyfeale direction at that stage. Seventeen up at half time. The Kerry goal was stroked home by David Shaw. Kerry were a little less precise in the second half , kicking some wides but still managed to score a further thirteen points while conceding a paltry two.
It is no exaggeration to say that every Kerry player dominated his direct opponent, some more than others. In the back line Stefan Okunbar and Daniel O'Brien were probably the most conspicuous but one could make a case for any one of the defenders for that accolade. I was particularly taken by Stefan. This rangy, loose limbed black man was full of agility and athleticism. If Jason doesn't make it at full back then this man would easily slot in there in due course. If Jason does make it at full back, as I expect him to, then I suspect Stefan could fill a variety of positions. Either way, unless I am greatly mistaken, Stefan could have a fruitful future.
All the forwards scored from play with the exception of Dara Moynihan. Fiachra Clifford got four, Cormac Linnane got three, Donal O'Sullivan, surely a future Kerry senior, got four, Bryan Sweeney got four and David Shaw got 1-3. Even sub Brian Friel came on and got three.
As I said Dara Moynihan may not have scored but he is one sturdy, pacy, determined devil. The prototype of the modern wing forward I suppose.
There you have it as I saw it but do not forget the bankruptcy of the opposition. Next up Waterford I believe. Another beach walking exercise I imagine.

I wonder how many of the 1200 who were there last night are like me and have decided to give Austin Stack Park a miss next Friday night for what will be an even bigger mismatch.
Jack will have to be happy with that but Kerry will essentially being going in cold to the Cork game.
Outside of what Veteran spoke of, the main talking point for me was the tactic to disrupt the Limerick kick out that worked a treat.
It was also a highly embarrassing night for the Kerrymen on the Limerick sideline. I was shocked at how naïve they were.
