The county hurling championship could easily be run off in the weeks after the Kerry hurlers finish their inter county championship involvement and the 1.9.2018. It's drags on too long at the moment ...lixnaw played their first game and had to wait several weeks for the second game in 2017.
It would also mean that dual players have a clear path...springtime for club football championship followed by intercounty hurling followed by county hurling championship and then with their divisional teams in September in the county championship.
The Christy ring cup is run off over about 6 weeks ....no reason why the county hurling championship can't be....and the drier pitches would make for better hurling

This new setup could potentially rejuvenate the district teams in the championship.

That would be good for the championship.

The bit below is takes from a match preview of Lixnaw v Ardfert in late September. This competition could be run of in July and August
When Lixnaw face off against St Brendan’s next Sunday it will almost be three months since they played their last game in the Garvey’s SuperValu Kerry Hurling Senior hurling Championship.
It has taken from the beginning July to the end of September to get down to the last four of a competition with eight teams.
