Yeah but Mayo had too many All Stars as it is- we cant name a whole team of players who didnt win a competition all year You still haven't worked out that this is a selection of the best performers in the big high octane games this year and not a selection of the winning team.... its the panel that wins the All Ireland nowadays more than ever. You can have 10 of the best performing players in the country and lose out to a stronger panel of 20. Like happened in the All Ireland final of 2017. I have it worked out-Aidan was rubbish in the first semi, mediocre in the 2nd semi and mediocre in the final. Clarke sh*t himself when the game was in the melting pot at the end also- I dont see why these lads got All stars. Look I think this goes beyond picking the best players for some people- there is an ingrained bias towards the plucky, losing underdog in the Irish psyche whereby we seem to appreciate the underdog who came up short rather than the team who actually won. Dublin were better in their semi final & better in the final, won their province and made a a league final- yet the way some people on here are going on- they should have gotten less All Stars than a team who won nothing all year. I dislike Dublin as much as the next overly biased Kerry man but some people need to get real on this.

So who apart from Cluxton from Dublin should have got an AllStar The lads that got one are in bold. Philly, Cooper, Small, Fenton, Kilkenny, Andrews and OGara were either well beaten or struggled v Mayo. Unless you think one of the subs deserve one Its as plain as day that the Big 3 are miles ahead of the rest so doing it in those games is surely the test DUBLIN: Stephen Cluxton; Philly McMahon, Cian O’Sullivan, Michael Fitzsimons; Jonny Cooper, John Small, Jack McCaffrey; Brian Fenton, James McCarthy; Ciaran Kilkenny, Con O’Callaghan, Paul Mannion; Paddy Andrews, Eoghan O’Gara, Dean Rock. Subs: Paul Flynn for Jack McCaffrey (9), Kevin McManamon for Paddy Andrews, Diarmuid Connolly for Eoghan O’Gara (both half-time), Bernard Brogan for Paul Flynn (65), Niall Scully for Con O’Callaghan (67), Cormac Costello for Paul Mannion (74)

Thanks, interesting read but is this just Keyes perspective? I think there are about a dozen all star selectors each of whom have their own variation of this.

You are saying it depends on how players play in the big matches and AOS missed the first few games and then was poor in the first semi (doesnt matter that he was played out of position as we can caveat everything- his performance was poor), in the second semi he was mediocre and the same in the final- so I cant see why he has gotten one.

No problem, probably mainly his I would imagine. I take the all-star selections with a pinch of salt. It lost something when they started selecting players out of position to include them.
