Cluxton should have got an all star in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Lee keegan, cillian o connor, jason doherty and tom parsons unlucky to miss out. Keegan pays the price for firing the gps yoke at rock i suppose. Colm cavanagh lucky enough.

As a Dub I have no issue with Moran’s player of the year . Clarke in goal is hard to fathom though . Conceded more on average than Cluxton . Cluxton has one of his most consistent years ( no all star since 2013) and when the game was there to be won Clarke failed to deliver . Do you think Cluxton is losing out due to his reluctance to play ball with the media and is seen as being aloof and distant? Of the top 12 counties on the all time roll of honour list for football All Stars, Mayo (5th with 39 All Stars) are the only ones without the ultimate prize. Kerry (132), Dublin (97), Cork (64) and Meath (48) are the others to make up the top 5.

I agree cluxton is unlucky.
Parsons is also unfortunate. Colm cavanagh has no business being at midfield and should be in the backs if they think he deserves an all star.

Amazing to think that Cluxton hasn't got one since 2013. Seems to be held to a higher standard than others. Fair enough otherwise really. Mayo undoubtedly the 2nd best team this year so deserved the 6 they got.

Andy Moran had a great year and after losing such a close game in 2016, showed great character to come back playing better this year , he fully deserved his POTY. Parsons unlucky I thought. But Cluxton omission makes a bit of a mockery of the Allstars. Mayo made him go long a few times in first half of final other than that he has been the most consistant keeper all year.

Stephen Cluxton not getting an All Star in 2017 is really difficult to fathom? Stephen not playing the media game has probably rubbed a few journalistic egos up the wrong way. One of the most influential players in the history of this game and certainly in this decade and should have certainly been given an All Star this year.

Congratulations to Paul Geaney, keeping the kingdom flag flying when all seems lost. He even manages to pull off the 'scarf over suit' look where others have failed. Only just mind you.
Is it still the meeja that choose the team? Is there no element of players being involved or is that confined to POTY?

Going into the final Ciaran Kilkenny was Dublins key man....Keegan put him in his pocket and managed to race upfield and stick the ball in the net. Cluxton had just 7 shots to save in the whole championship season while Clarke had 18 according to todays paper. Clarke was outstanding in the final and was way better than cluxton in the first half. Jayo had to run in and tell him to change tack. Cluxton found his man with every kivkout in the second half while clarke lost 3. Clarke was entitled to his all star on reflection.

Mayo conceded an average of 1.13. They lost 2 games and drew 3 others. They sucked against Galway Derry Cork and Roscommon. Dublin strolled to the final where someone finally gave them a game. Cluxton saved everything all season including a pen in semi. He had 15 mins in the final where he had to go long because Mayo were right on top of him. Dublin lost some kickouts in this period. If this is attributed to Cluxton fair enough, but i dont remember any other keeper who is expected to field his own kickouts! There have been rule changes in the last few years basically to combat his assets. Other counties have team meetings to talk about how to neutralise him. Compare this to 2016 replay when in advance it was felt Dublin would go after Clarkes kickouts. Mayos solution was to drop him! Now can you imagine Gavin dropping the most analysed player in the history of football. He would in his hole. I think you need to re reflect.

Cluxton’s kick to Scully in the semi final actually made Tyrone rethink their entire approach .
Clarke’s kick over the sideline at the end of the All-Ireland Final was catastrophic.
I can’t agree on Keegan . He was clearly out of sorts against Roscommon and not himself against Kerry .
Parsons can feel hard done by.

The way I viewed was cluxton regained him composure, completed every kick out in the second half and made an extremely important save. Clarke kicked the ball out of the sideline in injury time, at a crucial juncture- with an extra man on the pitch.

Keegan is the pulse of that Mayo team. Probably a case of being GPSed out of selection. Cluxton is the most valuable player on the Dublin team, has changed the way the game is played and should be All-Star keeper.

No they didnt- you are referring to the kickout prior to the last one. The one where the Dubs pinned players down- was why they had 14 men on the pitch as Kilkenny got the line- the kickout was then retaken and Clarke kicked it straight out of play. People talk about Mayo being as good as Dublin and I agree to an extent- the difference is composure with Mayo being victim to instances like O Connor missing that free, Vaughan behaving like a goon and their keeper kicking the ball over the sideline when the game is in the melting pot. Thats why they lose- yet their keeper gets an All Star? Ludicrous as far as I can see

If Clarke had picked out one of them the chances of getting the equalizer would have been high with the numerical advantage. He rushed the kick, feeling that the final whistle was about to blow. Four minutes elapsed from the time Connelly was "fouled" to the time Bernard Brogan kicked the sideline ball. There were two substitutions, a black card and a yellow during that time. Clarke had more time than he envisioned. Surprisingly Joe added on a couple of extra minutes and would probably have allowed another minute or so if Dublin were not about to score. If the clock was used as in ladies football Clark would have known exactly what amount of time remained and would have acted accordingly.

Sure just dealing in hypotheticals here- it’s more likely that he knew he had sufficient time as someone on the mayo team would have asked. All we can work with here are the facts and the fact is that he made a games of it when the pressure was on

In 74 min when we were drawing Clarke hit a high ball from a kickout that hung in the air like most of his kickouts , we won it and less than a minute later scored the winning point . For resulting kickout Kilkenny held Keegan and they ended up on the ground (Kilkenny rightly got a black card) , no other Mayo guy was held to the ground , their was pushing alright by Dublin lads (story of Mayo lads been held down has been exagerated ) We then only had 14 men , Clarke had time for last kickout to find a Mayo player, but put it over the sideline. Compare that to Cluxton last year in the last few minutes when the pressure was on. This year through league and championship Cluxtons kickouts at times were inch perfect , but because he is expected to do them , he is taken for granted. I still think Clarke is a fine goalkeeper and great shop stopper , but you should need something more in my opinion to oust Cluxton as Allstar Goalkeeper.

Cluxton has his Celtic cross again this year, Clarke doesn't. I'd say he's happy enough.

Yeah but Mayo had too many All Stars as it is- we cant name a whole team of players who didnt win a competition all year You still haven't worked out that this is a selection of the best performers in the big high octane games this year and not a selection of the winning team.... its the panel that wins the All Ireland nowadays more than ever. You can have 10 of the best performing players in the country and lose out to a stronger panel of 20. Like happened in the All Ireland final of 2017.
