Based on what i saw on Youtube...
Merited win by PCD but Tralee have some very good footballers too.
Very notable for was the number of St Brendans Divisional Board players by The Green...and no KOR players
TRALEE CBS team in previous game:
D Burns (Na Gaeil); P White (John Mitchels), T Brick (Ballymacelligott), J Myers (John Mitchels); S Hamilton (Churchill), J Walsh (Knocknagoshel), D Bourke (Na Gaeil); K Williams (John Mitchels), S Quilter (Austin Stacks); J Lenihan (Churchill), D Regan (Ballymacelligott), M Scanlon (Castlegregory); J Mortimer (Churchill), F O’Brien (St Pat’s Blennerville), M Kelliher (John Mitchels).
Subs: D Goggins (Na Gaeil) B Murphy (St Pat’s Blennerville) E Carroll (Austin Stacks) D Fitzmaurice (Austin Stacks) D Keane (Ballymacelligott) f

KOR have been really poor at underage level for a number of years now- a lot of teams are down around div 3/4 level.
It's an old part of town with very little new development while Stacks and Na Gael are much stronger as all the new housing estates in Tralee are concentrated in their areas

Leading up to yesterday's game I had a slight feeling the green might have pulled through taking into account the experience gained from last year's final and leaders like Michael Kelleher Michael Scanlon and John Walsh remaining from last year's team. Unfortunately the Tralee side fell short of the finish line. And on the day PCD were fully deserving of their victory which seemed fitting giving the tragic last 8 to 10 days the area has endured. Hopefully now yet another Kerry side can push on and bring home Hogan cup glory

Final score 2-13 to 1:10 in favour of Pobalscoil. The dingle side we’re deserving winners over all. I felt the green blew there chance in the first half by kicking away a lot of ball. Pobalscoil defence was rock solid through out and there place kicker kicked some fine scores. Feel sorry for the green as this was there best opportunity to win a Corn Uí Mhuirí in the past 10 years and can’t see them getting this close again within the next few years.

An 11 year wait is far too long for a school of the caliber and tradition of the green. Yesterday they did show signs of encouragement for the coming years with the likes of Devon burns Padraig white Sean Quilter and Fergal o brien all impressing yesterday and throughout their campaign and I believe they will all be underage for the next 2 or 3 years so hopefully with these players coming through it may result in some silverware returning to the tralee side as they have a strong production line of Kerry stars in previous years

Comhgairdeas PCD. I'm sure it has been an emotional few weeks for the whole school. Lurgan v Magherafelt in the Ulster final, with the winners playing PCD. In Leinster Naas beat Marist Athlone. Westport come out of Connacht.

By all accounts st lurgans were massive underdogs and I read online earlier that the school does not have a football field for the team to train on so hats off to the school on a great achievement

A lot of negative comment elsewhere about the conduct of Rice College supporters who positioned themselves behind the opposition goalkeeper and verbally abused him through a handheld hailer. Not the way college students (or anybody else) should behave or be permitted to behave. I'm not sure of the extent of the referee's authority to deal with this type of conduct if they are outside the perimeter of the pitch. Probably none, but the school has a responsibility, or is that old-fashioned too?

Very poor behaviour if true but don't think the ref would have been able to do anything about it.

Masita Hogan Cup Semi-Final Rice College, Westport 0-13 Naas CBS 1-7 Westport were down 0-5 to 1-5 at HT, so obviously kicked on in 2nd half. Lad from Naas GAA told me that in 2014 Naas beat Westport in Feile A semi-final. I'm sure the schools have players from other clubs, but interesting how it comes around again 4 years later. PCD SF is tomorrow Wed 2pm in Abbottstown.

St Ronan’s end Kerry's grip on Hogan Cup Wednesday, March 28, 2018 - 05:13 PM St Ronan’s Lurgan 2-10 Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne 1-10
St Ronan’s Lurgan’s history-making season continued at Abbottstown when they upset the odds against Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne to reach a first ever Hogan Cup Final.
The winners got off to a great start as they established a 1-3 to 0-1 lead with Rioghan Meehan getting their goal and Adam Loughran a couple of points.
Frees from Ruaidhri O’ Beaglaoich and a goal from Dylan O’Geibheannaigh saw the Kerry lads turn around 1-7 to 1-6 in front.
Ruairi McConville levelled matters on the restart before the Munster champions moved two in front through O’ Beaglaoich but St Ronan’s hit back.
Eoin McConville pointed and the superb Tiernan Kelly added a couple of points before substitute Josh Megoran clinched victory with a 52nd minute goal.
St Ronan’s Lurgan: L Mulholland, E McCluskey, A Mulholland, J Haddock, A McCreanor, J Lamont, J Haughey, J Lenehan, T Kelly (0-5, 1F), O Smyth, A Loughran (0-2), R Meehan (1-0), R McConville (0-2), L Monteiro, E McConville (0-1, 1F).
Subs: J Megoran (1-0) for Monteiro, C Magee for R McConville, M McAfee for Smyth
Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne: E O’Brosnachain, C O’Flannura, T O’ Dubhain, Colin O’Muircheartaigh, Colm O’Muircheartaigh, G O’Leidhinn, P O’Cathallain, F Sauerland, J Aghas, N O’Geibheannaigh, C O’Failbhe, D Uosis (0-1), D O’Geibheannaigh (1-1), C Firtear (0-1), R O’Beaglaoich (0-7, 5F).

This was my first visit to Abbotstwown GAA pitches. A very well appointed spot it is i must say.
Ronans started better and after 20 minutes they had got a 5 point lead and a firm grip on the games. Back roared PCD to dominate in the lead up to half time and they went in a point up at half time. This continued for about ten minutes into the second half till Frans Sauerland got injured. Frans moved in to full forward but he wasnt fully fit and a ball lost by him was swept down the field and into the net for Ronans second goal and that was the key score.
I felt the injury to Frans was a pivotal thing as he was doing well on Tiarnach Kelly who is a superb footballer.
PCD tried valiantly to rescue the game but the goal they needed never came. They were unlucky in the first half not to have scored another goal when a pile driver cracked back off the crossbar.
The better team won a great sporting contest which was totally clean.

Ronans manned the barricades in the final quarter to prevent a goal but up to that it was a traditional game of football from both sides.
Lots of very good footballers in PCD. Great credit due to EF, Tommy Griffin and whoever else is involved as well as the three or four feeder clubs.

Bad day at the office for Kenmare too against Cookstown in the B Semi Final They led 2-06 to 1 point after around fifteen minutes but would score only two more points for the rest of the game and lost on a scoreline of Holy Trinity Cookstown 4-11 Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine 2-8

Commiserations to both teams.
In view of the alarming population statistics that emerged in recent years from Iveragh with their implications as to future playing numbers of both male and female teams, I wonder what the figures are like in the primary schools/Clubs back west?

I think in general people are positive in West Kerry. I do know that there are going to be something like 15-20 going into primary school in Annascaul either this year or next. West Kerry also has the advantage of being compact - nothing is too far from Dingle. Quite a few people work in Tralee and when the road is finally finished this will be a very comfortable commute.
