Should we read anything into Sean O Shea not being freed up to play for Kenmare District in the U21 county final this week. Could this indicate heavy involvement for Sean against Galway at the weekend?

Could this indicate heavy involvement for Sean against Galway at the weekend? I would simply read it as he will be in the match day squad - all other consederations are insignificant in the minds of the management team. They would have made a simple decision - we may need him so he is unavailable.

How many of the League winning panel will realistically be on the match squad for Sunday I wonder?
I'm told the admission price of E5.00 for children to some parts of the ground has made this fixture more popular one than it might otherwise be. Roscommon should bring some support and Mayo invariably bring a crowd. We may well be in a minority come Sunday.

After Kerry, Galway have produced the best footballers and most free flowing teams down through the years so we will have a “football” game at least. Kerry should be professional enough not to be caught and should win the game. Galway did run through the centre when Kerry played them a couple of years ago. They can test the defence again. The Dublin forwards lost their markers very easily in the Leinster final even if Westmeath were very poor. Kerry must prepare for that. In this game against a talented but limited attack, the Kerry defence must show they can close down the attack and avoid any scary moments. Overall I don’t see Eamonn showing his hand in any way so the margin could be modest. There was a major difference in tempo between the division 1 final and the division 2 final. Galway have improved since then I expect and confidence will be up. The u21 debacle should dispel any hubris on the part of Kerry. It is likely to be an enjoyable open game but, if kerry win, its unlikely to be a good exercise for meeting Mayo. Clarke with his short kick out is the best exponent of that art after Cluxton. Clarke is the main reason Mayo are still in it...him and Aiden o shea.

Take nothing for granted must be the message.
Initially Galway did recover well from their debacle last year in Croke Park, with the best defensive record in division 2 and eventually beat an impressive and rising Kildare in the division 2 final. Galway are a division 1 team now and have been building this side for about 3 years - they've learnt some harsh lessons along the way, including this season in Connacht. Mentally there are legitimate question marks about Galway, as they clearly took their eye off the ball for the Connacht final. To me, Galway were/are bulling to get back into Croke Park since the chastening defeat to Tipperary last season and desperately must want make up for that performance. This is really the game Galway have been building towards all season and therefore, I’m expecting a huge performance from them and moreover, I expect them to seriously put Kerry to the pin of their collar and don’t rule out the possibility of extra time either! This is of course exactly what we would want because in 2014, Kerry’s eventual All Ireland win was forged in a baptism of fire through the All Ireland series as a whole. Firstly, a young Galway side gave Kerry a bellyful in the quarterfinal and then those monumental games with Mayo in the semi. If we are fortunate enough to reach a final this year, the more we are seriously gut tested along the way, the better in my book.
I’m hearing questions too about Galway’s defence but what about our own? We should remind ourselves that on the day of the Munster final an inept Cork still created about 4/5 possible goal chances which they failed to take. And when talking about our defence, I include our midfield in that if we start with Maher and Moran as expected. In the air, we’ll hold our own but the Galway midfield are mobile, pacey and like running – we’ll have to match accordingly. If the Galway forwards get as many chances as Cork did then it will be truly game on and possibly even lights out.
Quarterfinals have seen a lot car crash results over the years with warm favourites dumped on their backsides. Both Galway and Roscommon emerging as winners must be the bet of the weekend but Kerry and Mayo are well warned at this stage and there can be no excuses. Still, take nothing for granted!

Diarmuid Blake, ex-Galway footballer, reckons if Galway don't bring players back then Kerry won't either which would lead to a shootout. Extremely naieve thinking.

Shane Ryan has won the battle for the number 16 jersey. The better long term prospect in my eyes. Who knows, maybe he has the no. 1 jersey!

Who knows, maybe he has the no. 1 jersey! He'd want to start playing in goals so? He has been in goals for Rathmore every game since round two of county championship! Kevin McCarthy unlikely to feature on Sunday also, I presume this means a start for Johnny Buckley with Steven O'Briens role seemingly an impact Sub.

Shane Ryan definitely the best keeper in the County. Shane Murphy very unlucky. Has been outstanding for Crokes the last year. Very consistent. Kelly is lucky to be in Goal with them two around. I think Buckley O'Brien and Darren should be starting anyway. What's up with Kevin McCarthy?.

Supposedly he has a quad injury!

Who knows, maybe he has the no. 1 jersey! He'd want to start playing in goals so? Seems to be the "fashion" for county keepers to play outfield for club - lol David Uosis the minor keeper plays outfield with Dingle. Billy Courtney, minor 15&16 and sub junior this year, is an outfield player for Crokes and Shane Ryan is very capable outfield also. Who would want to be a specialist keeper in Kerry these days......

One that can restart the game quickly in a controlled manner. Show me a bigger profile in the game than Cluxton? Goal keeping is one of the biggest positions in the game now. Dublin's game hinges on Quarter Back like play from Cluxton. Surely if a lad wanted to get a "rush" from playing the game being a crack keeper with Kerry fits the bill?

It's gas watching that game now. Donie took the kickouts. Galway took no prisoners in preventing a goal. Cynicism always paid off.

I don't think Cluxton plays in goals for his club either, at least that's a story I've heard a few times over the years.

Cluxton has played outfield but not at senior level for parnells, not good enough apparently. John o Leary played midfield for o dwyers so its common enough. When I played soccer some of the lads who played the Gaelic code often were goalkeepers.

Come to think of it - Johnny Culloty and Brian Sheehan are others who have mixed keeping and outfield play. Maybe a dedicated keeper is a misnomer and all aspiring keepers should be footballers first and foremost. The current emphasis on kickouts is only highlighting this.

The story I heard was that he only plays junior football (outfield) for the club, doesn't play in goals for them full stop. Again, not sure if this is correct. Had a quick look for match reports but couldn't find any, I see a couple of videos of the Parnells senior team playing on YouTube with some other fella in goals.

My memory is Charlie nellifan playing full back for Desmonds in a county final back in the 80s.

Yeah I heard that as well he stopped playing for the seniors altogether. He was unhappy with the Laois contingent being brought in to Parnells. Believed they were keeping lifelong parnell lads out of the team.
