He'll be back in fine time so.
The only way this is game is close is by witchcraft. Realistically, how can Cork get within 6? Delorean, not meant disrespectfully, just based on personnel, recent Championship form (recent years) and key, form, specifically against the best teams and team in the country.
Yet, Cork and Kerry games are supposedly always close, according to some posts on this thread. It's hard to accept that a traditional keen 'unique' rivalry gazumps the facts.
Trainee stockbrokers are sent to this site, at this time yearly for their initiation. More conflicting data inputs than they'll ever run into on the ' floor'

I am very disappointed for Jack Savage. I am a big fan. Classy, calculating player. He would be my forty yards man.
Get back soon Jack.

Darragh simply states that you can never trust Corks footballers to win when they are favourites or to lose when being written off.
I agree with that.

"I fully accept that I could be here next Wednesday trying to save face for tipping Cork. But I really don’t think it’s that crazy a shout."
"Kerry are the rightful favourites. But I can see Cork winning by a couple of points."

I think Kerry will probably win fairly comfortably but it really shouldn't be a huge shock if the game is tight.
Comparing the Cork hurlers this year to the last few shows there really isn't a whole hill of beans between a crap team and a good one - a couple of new heads and stumbling onto a gameplan is not beyond the realms of possibility.
Kerry will by design be not at their best, for Cork this is the biggest game of the year - we had a moderately comfortable 5 point win in '15, a draw in '15, a big win in '14 and a 2 point win in '13 (in a replay?) so the notion that the games are recently fairly tight for whatever reason seems reasonable enough.

I think it's a big ask for people to expect David Moran to be the dominant midfielder on Sunday. He hasn't played a serious game since his heroic performance in the league final. He will have his work cut out against a tough and wily Alan O Connor. I really hope Maher is selected alongside him. Maher has consistently performed to a very high level against Cork and horses for courses is a must in a local derby. This is a big game for Jameso too on Sunday. His form hasn't matched that of 2014 due to injury, for the most part and the subsequent dip in confidence that long term injury brings. He looked sharp against Clare, however, Sunday should tell us a lot as regards Jameso's wellbeing. Good delivery to Paul and Jameso would certainly make for exciting viewing on Sunday. Cork, as Darragh referred to in his article, are an enigma. Would the real Cork please stand up (ever!)? They are a notoriously streaky team, if they start well and get the confidence going then they can be difficult to peg back. A few of my Cork friends are concerned that there seems to be no distinct pattern to their play.Their manager certainly doesn't inspire confidence but Munster finals really have a life of their own. If Cork keep it simple, defend the space close to the goals and break hard and run the ball against us then they will certainly ask serious questions of the Kerry defence. Should we win close to 50 percent possession around midfield, then I expect us to come out on top, but not by much. If Cork have any backbone at all, they should give Kerry a serious shaking on Sunday. Really looking forward to an encounter that should be full blooded, roll on.

There is only one word to describe the article by Darragh - stupid. He is willing to forfeit his reputation as an alalysist (if he has any) for this dated rubbish.
Cork should be no threat to Kerry on Sunday. They have no form coming into it and are depending on too many old players - 2 O'Connors, Kerrigan, Loughrey, O'Neill.
The drive in Kerry should come from within the squad. There are up to 20 players who must consider themselves as having a good chance of starting. If that energy was channelled properly in training there should be no lethargy on Sunday.
This game presents an ideal opportunity to blood young players. When Cork beat Tipp hurlers they started with 2 nineteen year olds and 2 twenty year olds. The Dublin forward that impressed me most last Sunday was 20 year old Con O'Callaghan.
If we are to take Eamonn at his word when he says the team is picked on form in training then that is proving to be the wrong criterion. It could be that there are some wily old foxes training there summer after summer and have found a way to catch the eye. When it comes to match day these guys don't have the hunger. So we have the key to prevent Cork being a problem on Sunday and the use of that key is in the hand of management.
Imagine some of those older players facing wound up young players for 75 minutes.

Cork may have one advantage over Kerry on Sunday - the element of surprise. Studying Corks games over the last 2 years under Peadar Healy, I am sure Eamonn Fitz and Co will not have been able to determine any pattern in how they play and who plays where. I imagine the team Cork name will bear no resemblance to the team that starts so really Kerry will have to adapt fairly quickly on Sunday.
However I feel the way to win this game is to really go for the jugular early on. Cork, as they did against Tipp, are likely to play defensive at the start. They seem unsure how to play this way. That is when Kerry need to pounce on their indecision.
I doubt the temptation for go for it, like they did int he 2nd half v Tipp, will be there for Cork. Westmeath players decided (it seems against the judgement of the manager) that they wanted to go for it last Sunday. I'm sure Cork will want to keep it very tight for as long as possible.
Corks leaders like Loughrey, O Connor and Kerrigan will need to be put on the backfoot. The rest dont seem to be the type of characters to pick up the slack if things are going against them.
I would rate Clare as a better team than Cork at the moment from what I have seen of both teams in the last 18 months. Similar to how Limerick were better than Cork for that spell around 2003/04. Kerry won a forgettable game against a forgettable Cork team in 2004 by 0-15 to 0-7 in Killarney. A similar winning margin wouldnt surprise me on Sunday.

Cork will definitely raise their game. They have really struggled this year but it's Kerry in Killarney. They will have a big support. They haven't won there in a while. Kerry should still win but I expect Cork to come out fired up. If Kerry start slow and Cork get an early goal you'd never know what can happen when these two meet. I remember in I think it was '08 in Cork. Kerry were giving them a roasting in the first half and Cork came out and took over in the second and won so you don't know when they play each other. A player gets sent off. An injury to a player can change a game. Form goes out the window when these two play each other.

Anybody writing Cork off in a Munster Final is an idiot. It wouldn't be the first time they caught us in the last decade by either making us sweat to the very end or outright beating us.
In fact, the last time we were off the back off a league final win and facing Cork they were again a Div 2 team...... don't think I need to tell you what happened?
Don't get me wrong, I'm still confident we will win.... but not cocky. Alan O'Connor cleaned us out the last time we faced them in the Munster Final and the added introduction of the mark is a fair point by Darragh so we will be no means have it our own way.

One of Darragh's most sensible articles. Tipping Cork to win is possibly a bit extreme but otherwise it is difficult to find fault with it.
It should be compulsory reading for all members of the panel.

There's been too many draws or wins by outsiders in this fixture to take a win for granted - 75, 83, 87 replay, 91, 92, 99, 02, 06, 14, 15. I'm not sure if any team were as short as 1/7 and failed to win however. Then again if you bet on Kerry last night at 1/7 or similar odds in the u21 semi-final you'd have lost money.

Delorean called it - "we've no forwards". That article is a complete wind-up. The Cork team of the early 2000s up to 2007-2008 were much more formidable, I think it was a mental edge especially in Croke Park that always kept us ahead of them.
Donnacha O'Connor - a very fine player and forward is 57 years old, well he's 36+ a couple of months. It is likely that there is a heavy reliance on his impact. I loved the examples of shocks Darragh quoted - Down, Wexford in hurling.
There's also the examples of 'not shocks' where Dublin tear Westmeath asunder by 31 points. We beat Dublin in April, deservedly. I'm focusing on that more than tea-leaves and ghosts of games past that have nothing to do with form or this current Cork squad.

Interesting point re David Moran, is it possible he could start from the bench with Maher and Barry midfield or is he needed after the Clare performance? How much training did he miss with the injury? Cork had loads of joy in the second half running at Tipp and we all know Kerry leave gaps although I appreciate they are improving but look at Clare game again and chance that came off the crossbar for example. They could have joy there Sunday.

I have read no post here where anyone is writing off Cork. I think there is an unhealthy fear out there. Since it is the week for quoting the Rooseveelts I have to say "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself".
The full quotation is even more relevant "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyses needed efforts to convert retreat into advance".

I think most of us can agree that, while we've no reason to be particularly fearful on this occasion, there's little enough reason to be overly complacent either.
From a Cork point of view, there's no expectation and therefore no pressure on them. They can go into this one perfectly relaxed and if they lose the shackles and go for it, we'd better be ready. Still have some fine players in the red and white.
From Kerry's perspective, while we can reference Cork's outings v Waterford and Tipp, remember we struggled big time against Clare for long periods. I was at that game and, believe me, at half-time I'd have happily taken a draw; this was the consensus among the Kerry fans immediately around me as well. I don't think the TSG highlights really reflected how close Clare came to an upset. When Jamie Malone was bearing down on goal that time, I thought the jig was up and if his shot hadn't come back off the crossbar, I'd say we were probably goosed.

Is that the team that we would like to see going out or the team that we think Eamonn will put out. In my case there would be a lot of differences. I can't see why management will change very much from the last outing.
