An interesting afternoon. Jameso was crucial. Midfield is in trouble sans Moran. What is his injury? Peter Crowley was limping badly by the end. Cusack park is a tight ground - the graveyard of many a team. Clare should trouble a few teams in the qualifiers. David Moran has a calf strain, along with Killian his expected recovery is two weeks.

I was also thinking of 92 as well after that leaden first half especially when Clare went 2 points up again but Kerry did pick it up.I believe training was very hard last week and it looked that way. Crowley was immense and I love his thundering runs.New pairing at midfield was quiet in first half but really came into in in 2nd half. Many great options here. I felt Maher had his best 20/25 minutes of football since All Ireland semi last year. His kick pass (featured on TV) to James was beautiful and should be for the skills booklet. To get on top of Brennan and O Connor (as good as you will meet) in their home pitch was commendable.Cusack Park has been a graveyard for many. I felt our forwards especially James and Paul took some stick but thats to be expected and they are big boys. Our half forward line needs much improvement. The ref was annoying, frustrating flashing cards all the time in what was certainly not a game needing so many cards. Im a great admirer of Donncha,he is a senior player, would be looked at somewhat as a leader but he needs to be more careful. He got his first card,I didnt see it,from a trip I believe then he should have been more careful.Going a man down in a championship game could be season ending for a team. We survived and survived our usual goalkeeker'heart attack' so no more shocks, onwards and upwards. Of Cusack Park Im not a fan,too tight,10 steps up on the stand and still getting wet but then after attending the under 21 semi final debacle there I think I couldnt be a fan of that venue.

Something will have to be done to help the likes of Tipp and Clare with smaller resources that Cork and Kerry in football and cutting the number of subs in half would be a good place to start.
These counties with a small pick are usually at a big disadvantage from the 50th minute on when the cavalry arrives

Short enough window to prepare for this game with the amount of club football played in recent weeks, everything in context.

These counties with a small pick are usually at a big disadvantage from the 50th minute on when the cavalry arrives They don't have smaller resources than Kerry, certainly not Tipp anyway. They just choose to put most of those resources into hurling and that includes player preferences and public support. Just like Kerry do with football and that's their prerogative. Nonsense to suggest that other teams should be handicapped as a result.

I wasnt suggesting a handicap. Just three subs for everyone.
Its mainly just a numbers game now.
Clare have about the same pick as shannon rangers and feale rangers combined. No hurling in west clare worth talking about.

The game has moved on, it is unrecognisable from 10-15 years ago in every way, preparation, fitness, tactics, pressure on players, media presence and how the game is played itself. Three subs has a feel of Back to the Future about it. I don't see it happening. We are on a forward progression trajectory now, at pace.

Every change seems to militate against the "bottom feeders".

Tipp and Clare have never been in a better place in Munster at the same time. Clare might have beaten Cork over the weekend if the draw had worked out differently.

Kerry missed 2 good goal chances, one in each half. They will have to be more ruthless in that respect as the summer goes on.

As against that the point-taking was very efficient the last day - I think there were only 5 efforts for points that weren't converted (I may be off slightly in this as was jotting down on the program as the game was going on, as opposed to watching back) but overall the shooting was very efficient in terms of converting chances. A large part of this was down to James who scored 9 from 10 efforts by my count.
