Mid Kerry 3-15 East Kerry 1-10
The winning margin was every bit as emphatic as the scoreline would suggest as Mid Kerry proved too strong for East Kerry at Tralee’s Austin Stack Park tonight. Displaying by far the better team work, Mid Kerry dominated proceedings for about three quarters of the game with impressive displays from Acorn Life Man of the Match Liam Carey and David Costello up front who contributed 2-9 between them.
Liam Carey and Darren Houlihan had two points on the board inside the opening two minutes for the winners but they were rocked a minute later when Ian Roche pounced on a mistake by a mid Kerry defender and found the net for East Kerry’s opening score. Matt Keane and Ronan Buckley followed with points and East Kerry were looking the more likely side. However, Mid Kerry were not long getting into gear and they hit four points without reply – Niall O’Connor getting two of those - and Gavin Horan also tested the cross bar when he should have goaled. The goal did come however and with it a second as first Liam Carey weaved his way throughin the 25th minute and almost from the kickout Mid Kerry were in again – this time it was Darragh Coffey who had just been introduced as a sub. East Kerry were over elaborating and Carey and Caolim Teahan pointed before the break to leave Mid Kerry leading by 2-8 to 1-2 at the break.
East Kerry opened the second half in style with Ronan Buckley converting three frees and Shane O’Donoghue saw his efforts taken off the Mid Kerry goal line twice all inside the opening three minutes. Then David Costello struck first with a point and then with a goal after Shane Ryan had saved well from Caolim Teahan in the 38th minute. The winners led 3-10 to 1-8 at the three quarter stage and though East Kerry had plenty possession thereafter they could not breach a well organised Mid Kerry defence for the goals they needed to reignite their challenge. The winners broke away a number of time to add to their tally and there was never a hint that East Kerry could overturn the deficit.
Scorers: Mid Kerry: Liam Carey 1-4 (0-2 frees), David Costello 1-5 (0-2 frees), Darragh Coffey 1-0, Niall O’Connor 0-2, Caolim Teahan (free), Darran Houlihan, Gavin Horan and Daniel Mac Beth 0-1 each. East Kerry: Ronan Buckley 0-6 (5 frees), Ian Roche 1-0, Donal Lyne 0-2, Matt Keane and Joe Clifford 0-1 each.
Kenmare District 2-18 Dr Crokes 3-11
It is Kenmare District who march on to the final of the Acorn Life U 21 championship following a high scoring encounter in Kenmare this evening. In the opening half Dr Crokes were in command for the opening periods with Paul Clarke and Michael Casey causing the Kenmare defence a lot of trouble and the Killarney side led by 3-3 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter following goals from Paul Clarke, Adam and Mark O’Shea. The introduction of Patrick Clifford for the district side settled things down and with Sean O’Shea and Killian Spillane getting more and more into the game the District really started to motor and by half time the deficit was down to three points thanks to a goal from Killian Spillane, Kenmare District 1-10 Dr Crokes 3-7.
In the second half the District side really took over with Acorn Life Man of the Match John Mark Foley, Dara O’Shea and Patrick Clifford driving from the back, Sean O’Shea commanding the middle and Patrick O’Shea, Brian O’Sullivan and Stephan O’Sullivan all contributing on the score board with Mikey Casey, David Shaw and Billy Courtney keeping Dr Crokes in touch. Tadgh Siochru was a great link man for the District over the hour along with Gearoid Fennessey who himself scored a fine point and after the sides were on level terms with ten minutes to go the killer blow came when after a goal mouth scramble Kevin Price hammered the ball to the Crokes net.
There were some superb performances for the winners from Sean O’Shea at mid field scoring 5 points (3 from frees) and Killian Spillane leading the attack with 1:4 (0-2 frees) but it was John Mark Foley at centre back who drove the team on , fetching some great lockouts, covering all over his defence, putting in some great hits and blocks who gets the Acorn Life Man of the Match.

Is Sean O'Shea being allowed play tonight? Just heard on radio kerry that he was unavailable, don't know if that's because of being involved in the senior setup or being injured but it's very tough on kenmare if he's being stopped because of his kerry involvement.

Is this a championship or just a comprtition to get out of the way. They should have put it back until some night next week and give Seanie a chance to win a county medal,as well as maybe making his senior debut in Croker.

I could not agree with u more , it is really knocking this competition. . Would this happen if Dr crokes made final? Fair messing on the young man , probably be number 23 on Sunday will be sitting down for most if not all the game. How is this right.

Congratulations to Kenmare District on their victory in the U21 championship last night - achieved without their star forward Sean O Se which probably makes the victory even sweeter for them.
Hope the injured player (match report) is not too seriously hurt.
I wonder if the U21 club competition will be run off this year - none last year which casts further doubt on the Co Board (and possibly club) interest in this grade which is a terrible pity and extremely shortsighted of them.

Congrats to Kenmare District. Gearoid Fennessy is minor this year. Didn't make it. Tadhg Sugrue not on u17 panel. Can't figure that one out.
