The Dublin hurlers going to Thurles to play Tipp is no different to Westmeath, Kildare and many others going to Croke Park to play the Dublin footballers. Conveniently ignoring the specific aspect of this being qualifiers. Each case on its merits..... No other ground, outside of Croker, would have enough seats to accommodate the double header. The Dublin footballers playing Laois in Kilkenny has set a precedent on required seats where Dublin are involved.

The Dublin footballers playing Laois in Kilkenny has set a precedent on required seats where Dublin are involved. That poses the question about ground capacity and seating capacity. Information is contradictory and probably changes for some of the older grounds with new regulations and inspections but here is a try. Grounds ranked by seating capacity. Croke Park - 69,500 Mc Hale Park, Mayo, - 42,000 (only all seater?) Semple Stadium - 26,000 Gaelic Grounds, Lmk - 24,000 Pairc Ui Chaoimh (eventually) - 21,000 Nolan Park, KK - 19,000 Clones - 18,500 Of the largest grounds by total capacity the only one that does not have significant seating capacity is Fitzgerald Stadium (9000 seats).

The Dublin footballers playing Laois in Kilkenny has set a precedent on required seats where Dublin are involved. Who said it had to be a double header though? And Limerick could have easily accommodated it anyway. It's just your typical 'make it up as we go along' approach by the GAA.

Its not make it up as you go along in my opinion. Its the usually pandering to "the gate". Dublin hurlers dont have a big following. They are expendable.
The thinking here is no different to 2014 when Kerry and Mayo were sent out six days after the drawn game. In Limerick. In case the dubs and donegal drew and croker was needed for a big gate the following weekend. Kerry and Mayo should have stood shoulder to shoulder on that one and told corporate park where to go.

Kerry must be the only county ever in Ireland that were the victims and outraged by having a game played in a ground on their doorstep instead of much further away. Whilst still a long way from their opponents county.
In answer to Playitfair's question the game against Tipp was in Croker or Parnell Park. It was based on a draw I think. A previous qualifier was in Clones

To me its simple.... Make fixtures for the right reasons and not for money concerns. Just because Linerick is near Kerry is nether here nor there. The rationale was money.

I see Tipperary beat Dublin in a quarter final in 2014, also played in Thurles. Was there any fuss back then about it?

So, once again... Limerick is not Kerry Limerick is not in Kerry Limerick is not "on the doorstep" of most of Kerry. The parts of Kerry nearest to Limerick are still a good hour plus from the Gaelic Grounds (without match day traffic). Other parts of Kerry are the guts of 3 hours away, which is further than some parts of Mayo. I agree with Mick that Kerry & Mayo should have refused to move out of Croker given the circumstances. Glad they didn't though - the ground, the game and the occasion in Limerick were terrific as it turned out.

Quicker to get to Limerick from Dublin than Sneem for example to Limerick. Limerick would be a fine neutral venue for future Leinster championship games involving the Dublin footballers & hurlers up to and including Leinster finals. Maybe the Dublin county board might suggest or offer this in future as they now have shown such an appreciation for the value and strength of home ties. Westmeath/Kildare v Dublin in Limerick would be interesting in a Leinster football final.

I live literally 4 minutes drive from the gaelic grounds and it took me two hours to get from Tralee to the gaff from 7.30pm last Sunday.

I think what's being lost is that the young Dublin hurlers are being shafted here because money talks . They will get little sympathy off course because of how the footballers get preferencial treatment and this will be the stick used to beat them with. But the irony is Dublin footballers enjoy the benefits of Croke park because money talks also. Unfortunetly a situation has been allowed develope where it's nearly all the other Leinster counties that are keeping us there. They have voted for us to stay in Croker during the Leinster championship. They need the money and Dublin playing in Croker gives the respective counties a greater share of the gate. They are in a no win situation off course and then when eventually Laois and few other counties said no that they wanted to take the Dubs out of Croke park , we had the ridiculous situation where the one county in Ireland that has no regard for promoting football gets the game at their ground (Nowlan park). Laois who were due to play the Dubs lose home venue and the extra revenue that the town would of recieved from the travelling Dubs support then goes to Kilkenny. Money alone shouldn't be the reason where games are played. I understand revenue is important for the GAA but not when it creates a huge imbalance. As seen when the Dublin footballers run out on to crokepark park to play someone like Westmeath.
p.s Kerry is on the doorstep of the Gaelic grounds , in the same way Dublin is on the doorstep of Tyrone's Healey Park.

Vaughan was fullback and outscored his marker Diarmaid Connolly from play in the drawn game. I found skybluezones assessment of the value of Vaughan to Mayo surreal.
He hasnt played well since being carried off in that game though.

We live in hope - probably delusional hope however. If this approach were followed all provincial finals would be the same weekend and there would be the same interval between games for all teams - sounds crazy even to be thinking so logically!!!

Post full of good and valid points. The GAA needs a competitive Leinster championship, it is decline at the moment for some reason. Dublin could become leaders in looking to spread the big games around the province by travelling to Mullingar, Newbridge, Tullamore, Portlaoise etc. The buzz and shot in the arm this would deliver would be huge. A new young Kildare team, cleaned the decks this year, go to Croker next weekend to play in a Leinster final, lets hope the game is competitive and not another massacre like the Westmeath tie. With the population shifting East the GAA needs Meath, Louth, Wicklow and Kildare all bordering Dublin to be strong and the midland counties of Laois, Offaly, Westmeath etc also to be competitive. Leinster finals were massive occasions in the past in Croker in front of full houses where the winners always had a very realistic chance of winning the All-Ireland thereafter. Ok, the young Dublin hurlers are being thrown to the wolf but so too are the other counties in the Leinster football championship. If something is broken it needs to be addressed.

He hasnt played well since being carried off in that game though. That's a big call to make that McCarthy deliberately did Vaughan. My recollection is that he was off balance flying into the challenge. As a result of a nudge or push? Would need to look at the video again (still have it on skybox!) to confirm but he has a blue jersey on so it was obviously deliberate. I'm not denying Vaughan had a good game last year but his level of performance is way too uneven over the last number of years. And you think that because he has been poor since last October its McCarthys fault? Now that's a surreal analysis Mick. And DC must be even worse than Vaughan what with all these lads not giving him a kick and outscoring him from play! But if you ask the Kerry senior footballers they might have a different view given the pain he has caused them since 2011.

skyblue, he did do vaughan. have a look at saint dermo taking vaughan out of the ball aswell. start at 1.14, make sure you have your glasses, as you cant seem to see any dub player playing the man instead of the ball. Where has dermo been hiding in the champo games against mayo. he scored 1-02 in last years all ireland and replay, hardly a jaw dropping performance.
1.44 john small throws a shot at cillian on the ground, again make sure you have your glasses.
Skyblue, the lovein the dubs had with the gaa has come to an end, fair play to spillane for pointing out the connolly incident, for to long they have gotten away with this kind of stuff, gavin is rattled and he should be, dubs will be undercooked facing a monaghan or donegal.

Love good discussion on a game of football and fair analysis. But selective viewing and highlighting certain minutes in a game on only one team in which their was numerous incidents is tiresome . There is more than blue tinted glasses been worn here.

I said yesterday that I don't think Vaughan is one of Mayos main men in answer to Mickmack. I logged on tonight to find a whole barrage of guff about various Dubs players. I still believe that Vaughan is not one of Mayos main men. In fact he has started on more than one occasion from the bench. That is the net point. Mick as usual had a cut at the Dubs, McCarthy this time but not unusual for Mick to fire bullets indiscriminately when it comes to Dublin. And now Mayo4sam141516 or is it 17 decides Dublin are a shower of toerags too. Lovely. Mayo4whenever, for the record Higgins kneed an opponent in the bollox last week, Keegan permanently drags out of DC, CoC is a complete slieveen crybaby, Boyle acts the big man and hits the deck at the first sign of retribution by an opponent. Of course TSG were all over these offences, were they fcuk! Every year you turn up here pretending to debate but it doesn't take too long for you to dumb down proceedings. Seriously one eyed stuff from the pair of you.

skyblue, no comment on the video evidence i gave you? did you have your glasses to hand? I wonder will the gaa extend his ban as he is currently not complying with it as reported in the dublin herald or the irish times? (rule 7.5.m "m The penalty for illegal participation while under a Term or Match Suspension shall be:For a member/Player: 24 weeks Suspension"). (“all functions, privileges and competitions under the association’s control”) However dermo, said he wouldnt be appealing it, and then 2 days later dubs county board would be appealing it. Once the dubs county board got all the reports and evidence, their legal team (barristers and legal senior council) reviewed it, and there was no technicality to get out of the ban, so reluctantly had to take it. Higgins took his ban, he didnt appeal his ban, he took it, as did durkan, no problem.

Just so we are clear, all the dirtbirds are in blue jerseys, incidents last September influence why Vaughan has been poor in July 2017, Dublin players don't bother with adhering to sanctions laid down, all the decisions in both 2016 fonals were huge injustices against Mayo, which is part of the greater GAA plan to look after Dublin and deny Mayo their rightful claim to Sam? No wonder Jim Gavin is *ting it.

You called out Vaughan and he has scored the same amount of points from play in last years all irelands as connolly, what does that say about your forward? So nobody is allowed to criticise the dubs? Cop onto yourself. Next you will be on about the dubs hurling team, complaining about playing tipp at their home ground, o the irony of it all. Plus the hill doesnt belong to Dublin as we showed in 06

Then the pair of you, and you more than Mick, decided to tear into anything Dubs related. Now you've dragged the hurlers into it, although I'm not quite sure what they have done wrong. You disagreed with Micks comment on Vaughan not been a main man.
Connolly was not a main man last year. Do you agree with this statement?
Again you dont see anything wrong with mc carthy or john small incident or connolly incident shown in the videos.
see no evil hear no evil attitude set by gavin.
The hyprocracy of the dublin county board complaining about playing a game, and the home team has advantage. Thats what i meant about the irony. How many championship games are held outside of croke park with the dubs? 1 token game each season? And your gonna blame the leinster board!!!! Yawn, how many home decisions do you get by refs, and then crawl over the line with a 1 point win? I think you are out of your depth here pal!!!
